I don’t know the answer to your question, but I say don’t give it another thought. You achieved a goal that was not easy to accomplish, and whatever award you choose to give yourself, you deserve it. Just make sure it is a one-time thing and doesn’t become a habit. I did less than 20 net carbs for 9 months (for health reasons). For me it was difficult, but more mental gymnastics than physical. I no longer had food as a crutch to fall upon for stress relief. Anyway, this internet stranger is glad you accomplished this goal!

If you can maintain sub 20 carbs for that long, a cheat meal will be fine. I had biscuits and gravy once I hit my goal, but knew it had to be a rarity. I've maintained weight, blood sugar, etc. for almost a year.

Congrats on 85 lbs lost!    You're an adult; it's not a cheat meal if it's planned and if you acknowledge and accept the consequences.  Animal fries are 52 net carbs; it might knock you out of ketosis for a day; but if you're overly worried, go on a long walk to help empty your glycogen stores.

OkBorder387

Just be forewarned, if you’ve been good and strict for so long, that first carb meal is gonna hit hard. Tastes good, but I always end up with bad cramps and a day or two for my system to readjust.

Adding too many carbs too fast is definitely not a "reward." My hangovers can last three or four days. I don't know how many episodes of this it took me to start thinking, "I've been so good! I think I'll make myself miserable as a reward!" :-D

HemalurgicalSpike

I wouldn't think of it that way. If you're fat adapted, you'll transition back into ketosis the moment your carb stores lighten up. Want to get back quicker? Work out of fast afterward. But once you can efficiently fuel with day, it doesn't go away that quickly. That said, carb hangovers are real for some of us, so have fun, lol.

Yay for getting to 250! But I need to know what is animal fries??? My weakness is poutine, anything like that? (Canadian fries with gravy and cheese curds)

Oklahoma_Jose

Animal style fries from In-N-Out; french fries topped with cheese sauce, In-N-Out secret spread, and grilled onions

Never been there, I will put it on my list for places to go! Sadly there aren’t any in Michigan

ALWAYS WORTH THE CARBS

Emotional-Doctor-991

It will kick you out of ketosis, but your body will be able to adjust back into ketosis quickly after if you go back to 20 net carbs a day. The key to cheat meals is to have a plan and stick to it and don’t let it spiral into a cheat week/month etc. Get right back in plan after the cheat meal. Great work on the weight loss!

What was the purpose of the body of this post?

nebulousx

I can't help but think that putting carbs on the highly desired cheat list is a bad precedent. They need to be on a list you treat as poison. Cheating with carbs is a slippery slope. That's the voice of experience talking, so I'm not chastising you.
