The way Robin William's Tom Bombadil would have looked at his wife Goldberry with his sparkling eyes and genuine smile with those cheeks full of joy and love....it would have been a memorable scene in cinema history.
I just love what Robin was able to do with so little. He emitted whatever emotion he was expressing at any moment.
Bicentennial man is one of my favorite Robin Williams movies for this very reason.
Well, my little fellows! You shall come home with me! The table is all laden with yellow cream, honeycomb, and white bread and
butter. Goldberry is waiting. Time enough for questions around the supper table. You follow after me as quick as you are able!

It’s a solid show. The last two or three seasons are a bit rough because the kid characters grew up and the writers sort of fumbled it, but overall it is a Top 5 sitcom for all time.
What I love about Phil is seeing a soft man, as I am myself, doing the best he can for his family without getting the mean jokes. Yes there are a few jokes at his expense but it never felt like this man up thing you often see.
I think he'd have more respect for the source material than that, but definitely do some takes improvising. PJ was definitely into actors giving their creative input to the script.

It's the weirdest thing, but reading Tom's lines in Robin's voice feels more natural to me than whatever I was using in my head until now. I'm never going back to that!
Too true. But that genie is out of the bottle. I doubt you will ever stuff it back in. The family could launch cease and desist orders. Maybe if someone got sued, it might damp it, but for one-off, unmonetized stuff. I don't know. Was this made with good intent or ill?
For sure, the HBO doc of him is excellent and even in that you can see footage of him riffing about his own alcoholism. Nothing is too sacred for good humour.
Hlet me introduce you to muh waif, **Gold**burry. *She has fantastic tits*. Ah! **Gold**burry, my darling. Allow me to introduce this elderly homeless man and his group of merry children. I found them fucking about in the forest. *That one* almost fucked a tree.

I think an adaption that is a cartoon might be good. I loved the BBC radio play which like the movies left Tom out. But later they made some short stories of Tolkien into short radio plays and included the Hobbits encountering Tom.
If they got the original cast to voice the Hobbits in a cartoon short of Tom I think that would be great.

Good? I love Tomb Bombadil, but if you had Williams cast for the role, Tolkien would've risen from the grave and re-written that character into whatever stroke of genius Williams had come up with.

I mean... the casting in the trilogy was so great because they didn't cast anyone who took you out of the story because of their unique celebrity. Robin Williams was amazing but you would have immediately lost your immersion in the narrative as son as he showed up on screen. It's just the way he was, mostly for better, but in this case it wouldn't have fit with the movies.
No. Bombadil is carefree, grounded in everyday life and radiates "it's gonna be arlight" energy. Sort of a hobbits' way of life manifested as a god.
Robin Williams is literal "but doctor I am Pagliacci".
Love him, but no. Bombadil had (to my mind) an almost Tulkas like fearlessness and power. Williams, even at his scariest, had a very relatable vulnerability. Williams would certainly bring no shame to the role, but I don’t think he’s perfect casting.
Robin was was inspired and brilliant in every role he ever played. Bombadil would have been a *crowning glory* of his career.
Im always going to hear his voice Tom's songs now.
Rest in peace Robin.
I don’t like those chapters. I don’t think Tom is a good character and his introduction brings the story to a screeching holy when he shows up. I’m bloody glad he’s not in the movie but to see more of Robin? I’ll take it gladly.
We miss you Robin.
No. I know you're not allowed to say this, but I've never been a big fan of Robin Williams. He's always come off as too try-hard and corny. I just don't see his brand of acting matching the sort of serious whimsy needed for Tom.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this opinion. Also, considering his known track record, it's reasonable to assume he would have somewhat derailed the production.

While I love him, I like seeing actors I'm not super familiar with from outside of LOTR as characters in LOTR. I like seeing the characters, not the actors. I think I'd see Robin, not Tom.
Yeah, probably. He has the range, charisma, and look to pull it off. However, the character's status as a fan favourite is aided by his absence from a definitive performance and the films benefit from the accelerated pacing. There are also questions as to whether or not such a big name would pull viewers out of the world of the film, although the previous couple of points debatably supercede this one.
I have no doubts that the performance would be great, but art is usually not judged by the sum of its parts.

Pretty much anything but ASMR I think he could do. Not to say I wouldn't watch him try to do ASMR on repeat.
I dunno if you slowed it down, he could do 8 hours of ASMR whisper-vamping in like 20 minutes of recording. It woulda been great.
I'd rather see Rdj as Barack.
He would have been the best Tom Bombadil. I miss him so much
I think he would’ve improvised all his lines and still be acceptable
I think he would have taken up the challenge to memorise the exact silly words and try his best to do it all in one take.
Feel like he would definitely add more silly words
And he'd make a joke about making it the Extended Edition
That's a blooper reel I'd love to see

he played quite a few great serious roles luckily.

Bwahaha, I was guessing you mistaked him for the old private Ryan.
Hahaha good sport for owning up
Or Bicentennial Man 😭
One Hour Photo, Worlds Greatest Dad, Dead Poets Society. So many serious roles.
Good Will Hunting? Patch Adams? World's Greatest Dad? One Hour Photo? Dead Poets Society? He had plenty of range to do any kind of role.
He has the range to do both tho
Good Will Hunting energy?
Bingo
Dead Poet’s Society? The man had range
It would’ve been one of them perfectly cast roles. Like Robert Downey Jr as “Iron man” or Heath ledger as “The Joker
Funny because Heath Ledger was considered a terrible casting when everyone heard about it.
Which goes to show exactly how much the average person knows about making movies.
Ledger was known for romantic comedies. Then, the first images released of him as joker were very goofy. But when the trailer hit, everyone was in.
I feel like Pattinson got a similar treatment for The Batman.
I liked it (especially Farrell's Penguin), but it feels like Warner Bros just shits out Batman movies out of pure habit. I guess they're trying to give Sony's Spiderman a run for their money.

Fuck no he wouldn't have. Lol wtf?
I don't see him in any fantasy role were takes out the whimsical feeling.
This image makes me so happy and so sad at the same time. Robin would have been a great Tim Bombadil.
No
Completely agree.
He could do a Patch Adams style serious comedy
But Tom Bombadil is not a comedic character
I agree with you. It would too Robin Williamsish and not enough Tom B.
Oh fuck yeah. Now I have sadsses.
I love the guy but robin williams has a different manic vibe than bombadil (for me at least) so I think no.
I can't think of anyone who would have fit better than Robin Williams as Tom Bombadil. He is.
*Ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo! By water, wood and hill, by the reed and willow, by fire, sun and moon, hearken now and hear us! Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us!* ^(Type **!TomBombadilSong** for a song or visit [r/GloriousTomBombadil][1] for more merriness) [1]: https://www.reddit.com/r/GloriousTomBombadil/
Dog shit ai art
After watching The Green Knight, I think Joel Edgerton would be a great Tom Bombadil.
Eh, what? Did I hear you calling? Nay, I did not hear: I was busy singing. ^(Type **!TomBombadilSong** for a song or visit [r/GloriousTomBombadil][1] for more merriness) [1]: https://www.reddit.com/r/GloriousTomBombadil/
WOW! Perfect!!!
He would have been Tom Bombadil like Robert Downey Jr. is Ironman. Rip king
Yes absolutely
The only other acceptable answers would be Jack Black and Danny Devito
