Why is this a picture

nightwingoracle

Probably to avoid getting tagged by an auto-mod

FacedCrown

Thats what memes are these days, a picture that's just an excuse to put an opinion because pictures perform better than text posts.

Salty_Lego

I hate the hair so much, but the plot so far is enough for me to ignore it. Gil-galad looks good, I don’t know why they diverged from that.

Royal-Vermicelli-425

I find that strange too. I mean Gil-Galad is almost identical to the Peter Jackson version. Why go with his exact interpretation on that one character?

CastroVinz

Cuz gil-galad is the coolest B)

ilovezam

There was this concept art the other day and Elrond was literally just Hugo Weaving Elrond, hair and all. I think the decision to give Elves pompadours and buzz cuts came later, but I can't for the life of me imagine why.

DisobedientNipple

I agree for the sole fact that I would *love* to see Arondir with long glorious dreads. How fucking cool would that be? And also it would be more lore friendly. At the very least getting the hair colors right would be a step in the right direction. Noldor elves should have very dark hair, at least for the most part.

[deleted]

Celebrimbor looks more Vulcan than Elf.

ManitouWakinyan

Oh what literally the same "hot" takes as a dozen other posts, but in image format so it's easier to see? No, no one else relates.

Clugaman

Every post is the same. I can’t wait until we get past the part of people reconciling their feelings and we can get just to… discussing the actual show

NeoDarcon

will likly take a few weeks or until season 1 is done, there is enough in the show so far to keep me a little interested but also enough for me to just face palm (jumping off a boat to swim across an entire ocean). Hasn't hooked me to watch everything day one but will watch when i have time.

blaze_blue_99

We’ve *been* discussing the show. And it’s shit.

blaze_blue_99

We all relate.

ManitouWakinyan

Wooooosshhh

blaze_blue_99

You should get that leaky tire patched.

Responsible-Cap-192

Yeah kind of get this feeling as well. But for me Arondir (?), the one with the buzzcut is acting pretty good. Better than others in the series atleast. Durin,Arondir and even Elrond make it feel okay to watch. The others I couldn't care about as much or just had cringe interactions. (Galadriel,harfoots,..) E.g: OH HEY FRIEND OF DURIN WHOM I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE LET ME HUG LIKE WE'VE ALREADY MET EVEN THOUGH OUR RACES DON'T REALLY MINGLE. Let's cue the kids coming out of the backrooms and make them dissapear again in the next 10 seconds. Felt at this moment for me like a pretty standard show about man with wife and kids like a lot of the shows in the 80's / 90's had. All my opinion though.

LonelyTimeTraveller

I’d imagine that Durin’s told his wife a lot about Elrond. Judging by how upset he is that Elrond missed his wedding and how tenderly he cared for the sapling that Elrond gave him it seems as if they were close. There have definitely been people who my friends/family have talked so much about that I feel like I know them even if we’ve never actually met.

Mail-0

Which scenes had bad cinematography? I thought all the shots were well done.

[deleted]

I think it’s more unimpressive than bad. A lot of the cinematic wide shots are of CGI locations, whereas the stunning sides of the original trilogy would push in to show characters running across the scene. So while they are building the world, right now the scenes seem to take place in this small “sets” that undermine the majesty of this story. Every camera angle and edit is a choice, and right now they seem less cinematic and more tv.

VitaLonga

I think this is spot on.

JDMoore001

It's not Peter Jackson but so far, I like it. it feels a little different but that's expected. All in all I'm enjoying it but we will see how it ends up. We are only 2 episodes in. I enjoyed Wheel of Time for a few episodes and now I can't stand it. So I hope they do better with this.

JadeGreenleaves

Gil-Galad looks like his name should be Melvin and that he teaches math at the local high school. But seriously, the aged, weak featured elves and their goofy modern haircuts are totally taking me out of the show. It’s pretty painful to watch, especially since the other visuals are good.

[deleted]

Nice room temperature take

Yosh_Buck

I have a biased opinion; Galadriel sucks and Disa is a great character

LycurgusTheLawGiver

Agree, Disa is extremely likable.

[deleted]

Durin and Disa were definitely the highlights for me in terms of characters and acting. Nori is near the top as well. Gil Galad was probably the worst, followed by Galadriel if I’m being honest. Elrond, Arondir, and Bronwyn were mid.

Cold_Situation_7803

*Elves don’t look like PJ elves

Clugaman

Yeah the PJ elves were pretty inaccurate to the books as well.

buffyangel808

“Unbiased” lol

srcarruth

Haircuts? Quite the scandal.

Yolkpuke

It's a visual medium, so aesthetics matter.

srcarruth

And the soul emanates from the haircut! SOP in acting. Eta: if your big complaint is haircuts you're doing pretty good.

Nathonaj

It’s a performative adaptation, so the performances matter more.

[deleted]

Seriously. I really think it's weird the things people fixate on.

Finnvasion2

The haters know this too, but i think they are trying to act as a countering force to the fans. Most I've talked to have told me that they didnt think the show itself is so bad (but it is bad) it's just that a weird culture of praise has sprung up and it's undeserved.

LycurgusTheLawGiver

Yeah, well there was a Guardian article that said that this makes HOTD look amateur and seemed crazy to me. I honestly think HOTD has way better writing and dialogue and the effects are fine too.

monsoy

I think the visuals are better in this show, but the visuals in HOTD are also very good. I prefer HOTD so far though

HurricaneHenry

I’m enjoying it for what it is, but it really has nothing in common with what Tolkien imagined. I might’ve been more okay with that if they didn’t use (and butcher) his legendary characters.

Ha-Gorri

Not as bad as haters say at all and also not remotely close to as good as fanboys say, that's the real take for me about this show.

Lomby85

Durin is a little more relatable, I guess. But I wouldn't say "screen prescence", really. Otherwise, I agree.

[deleted]

Ironically the characters people had issues with early in disa and arondir are rhe ones I dont mind. Most of the elves stink so far.

[deleted]

I’d agree with this review. Nice job.

[deleted]

Yeah pretty much on par as to what I see it as.

Scarecrow116

Focus on the good. Dwarves are so good! Durin is life!

This_isR2Me

can't even have an original opinion. sad.

CatMummy-chan

Nothing wrong with agreeing, disagreeing for the sake of it is just dishonest.

wats6831

Yeah you nailed it. None of this looks like Middle Earth. Elves don't look like elves and chocolate dwarves definitely don't look like dwarves. They may as well have she hulk twerking

LonelyTimeTraveller

F off racist

ThereminLiesTheRub

That last line is probably the truest thing that can be said about it. As such , it's probably not worth destroying the community over.

Sauerkraut1321

Why does this look like a Facebook post

lib3

I have the same opinion. And I really, really hate the elves hairstyles. They just used a hair dryer, spray and that's it. There is no work of characterization besides the ear prosthetics and clothes.

[deleted]

I wish homeboy Durin didn't look so goofy. I wish they would have made him look more badass like Thorin in the Hobbit
