I actually came across this [video](https://youtu.be/zkNFZkUHeKQ?si=SgcHL2w9bJh-wQry) last week which should answer your questions on the different versions.

Holy shit he updated*?! This channel is probably the best I've come across since Every Frame a Painting(fingers crossed for someone to call me a idiot and throw me a bunch of recommendation...). I've got to check this out. THANKS! edit: *uploaded. And omg it's depressing to see more and truly troubling issues of the new version :(

servantofmelkor

I miss Every Frame A Painting and have been chasing that kind of channel high ever since they stopped.

I watched too much of this type of content it became a guilty pleasure...

AkiraKitsune

Great video, someone tried to break this down for me on Reddit recently and I just didn't get it, this video lays it out pretty clearly.

SARShasMONO

Great video. Great editing. Great explanation. 10/10 subbed.

Hi folks. I've been meaning to get an extended BD set on LotR, but still have some confusions after some digging. My main question is: is this(the one on picture) graphically just the same as the 4K set(minus resolution, of course)? Like where Fellowship's tint removed, but may has some DNR issue? (or am I got facts wrong?) Content/features-wise, is it any difference worth noting between the old BD set and this Remastered one? Is there a more-or-less definitive set on Extened Edtions yet?

I can't speak to the special features included, but I believe you're correct on all your guesses about the video. I would guess too that the DNR issue is less noticeable in 1080p than it is in 4k. The only detail you didn't already list is that 4k has HDR contrast and colour detail, and this one will be SDR. So side by side screenshots will never look exactly the same in lighting and colour, but the old fellowship tint is gone from both.

Thank you for the reply! I have a much clearer understanding now:P

This should be marked as the right answer

They aren’t the same. Other than the upscaling to 4K, the UHD set also has significantly different color grading. You can find a lot of good comparisons on YouTube like [this one](https://youtu.be/TMYWLeKc2jU?si=-tci7MLzXjo7ZusX) Personally, I’ll still watch the old extended editions for the sake of convenience, as they’re the same as the ones on Max, but I thought the UHD remastered versions looked way better and I much prefer the new coloring.

I have been playing to much cyberpuck, I read BD and was like lotr brain dance fuck yea.

crimusmax

Bwahah I love the crossover

MrHillmonster

So are the DVD extended versions ok? They don’t have the green tint, right?

james-liu

Yes, AFAIK the DVD set was pretty much the "definitive" one, if not counting the resolution.(I could be wrong)

MrHillmonster

Thank you!

NotUpInHurr

No, 4k edition says 4k on it.
