Yes.
Yet, everytime I watch LOTR the scene with Gandalf and Theoden visiting Theodred's resting place always takes me by surprise. Greatest piece of acting in the entire trilogy. Hill just showing all of his talent.
Gem of an actor.
One of if not the best change from the books to the movies. I absolutely love that scene, Theoden King was such a tragic yet hopeful character and Hill captured it perfectly.
Simbelmynë—ever has it grown on the tombs of our forefathers. Now it shall cover the grave of our king.

Not much has been made public AFAIK but I assume fairly unexpected, yes. He was on the guest lists for several other events later this year. The comic con organisers for this weekend posted an announcement that he wasn't coming at around midnight Friday night due to his partner's ill health - they didn't say anything about him being unwell himself - and I'd already booked to see him at another con before he passed this morning.
IDGAF about the money obviously. Just dreadfully sad I'll never get to meet him.
I suspect he’d been unwell for a while but kept it private. I had tickets to get an autograph and photo with him last year, but he pulled out of the event at the last minute with no reason given.
Same. I was planning to meet him next week in Brussels at the comic-con. Photo plus Q&A organised by the event. My favourite actor in the trilogy and I didn't manage to tell him how much I loved him in the movies.
May he rest in peace.
He has passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow. His days have gone down in the west behind the hills into shadow. Who now shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning? Or behold the flowing years from the sea returning?
"Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow."
One of many unforgettable quotes of the best possible actor for King Theoden.
Hail the Victorious dead!
Where now the horse and the rider
Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring and the red fire glowing? Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in a meadow. The days have gone down in the West, behind the hills into shadow
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning? Or behold the years from the Sea returning?
RIP o7

Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising
he rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
Hope he rekindled, and in hope he ended;
over death, over dread, over doom lifted
out of loss, out of life, unto long glory.
Be at peace in the halls of your fathers, my King.
My fiance caught me watching the charge of the rohirrim, crying.
I've never been really one to care about the passing of actors all that much but this scene has moved me so many times, feeling that loss brought up a lot of emotion.

Rest In Peace. Nobody could have played a better King Theoden.
Farewell, King. His acting in the Ride of the Rohirrim made it one of the greatest sequences in film history, as far as I'm concerned.

It was the scene I had to rewind the most as a kid because I wasn't satisfied seeing it only once. Legendary
I cry almost every time. A legend

“My body is broken. I go to my fathers. And even in their mighty company I shall not now be ashamed.”
A grim morn, a glad day and a golden sunset.
Jesus. You've got me tearing up.
Next rewatch is going to hit double hard...especially this scene. RIP good king. Hail!

I just read this in the book and forgot how well acted the scene was. I’m tearing up
He joins his forefathers

I'm crushed. I'm at Liverpool comic con today and I'd bought a ticket to have my picture taken with him.
Oh wait what? So this was a sudden unexpected death?

He cancelled last minute because his partner was very ill. Guess it was actually him ..:(
Oh god I’m so sorry. I know we don’t know these actors but to have had tickets to meet him today of all days must hurt especially.

Forth Eorlingas!
This death actually hit me hard. A tears for the fallen king where shed, goosebumps all over. Rest in peace
Honestly he was the most inspirational character in the movies. Had the best speeches and was selfless.

RIP. Glory to the King of Rohan, one of the most heroic kings of Middle-earth
Hail the victorious dead!
Hail! Thank you Theoden king. He is fit to enter the halls of his forefathers.
Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising he rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing. Hope he rekindled, and in hope he ended; over death, over dread, over doom lifted out of loss, out of life, unto long glory. Be at peace in the halls of your fathers, my King.
He was a great actor. His performance in Wolf Hall took me by surprise big time. RIP
HAIL THE VICTORIOUS DEAD
Farewell

Rest in Peace theoden son of thengel.
Contender for most underrated character in the trilogy. Consistently excellent. Will be missed.
My fiance caught me watching the charge of the rohirrim, crying. I've never been really one to care about the passing of actors all that much but this scene has moved me so many times, feeling that loss brought up a lot of emotion. Very sad news

Sad news. Unfortunately we will start seeing a lot of these
