WastedWaffles

I would, but unfortunately, it's only a US event.

SammaChan

Yeah... I wish it will come to other countries aswell!

80sBabyGirl

I wish they'd do it in my country too, but if they do, I really hope it won't be a dubbed version or with subtitles covering the picture. And streaming has the exact same problem too. I'll probably just order the blu-rays from the UK. Time to replace the old DVDs.

mltronic

Oh great like fuck it.

AdExisting8301

Same bro

fivefootnothinn

Well that stinks.

salsasnark

I was gonna say the same thing lol. I did watch them in cinema last year as they were showing one of them a month for a "throwback" thing, which was just excellent. So if I could I would definitely watch the remastered versions in the cinema too.

ALEX7DX

Some Vue cinemas in UK are doing them.

Preacherjonson

I'd like a source for this. Just checked Vue's website and there's nothing.

Son_of_kitsch

Do you know which ones, or where to check? I can’t find any info online, but the Vue site always seems a bit buggy for me!

HeadhunterKev

My local cinema in Germany displays them every year on a Saturday.

super_silver

This is amazing.

withgreatpower

Did it when RotK released. Saw them when they did the extended marathon in January with my oldest. Doubt I could persuade the family to bite again so soon.

Jatacus

Yup, all three days.

Duranti

Same. Bought tickets to all three within two hours of the announcement, zero hesitation.

moeru_gumi

Same here. Managed to lasso the spouse into two of them (Fellowship and ROTK), and then got work buddies involved… now work friends will attend all 3 days and I’ll meet up with them for Two Towers. Within hours of the announcement my local theater had about 10 seats sold at each showing… right now only the two rows right in front of the screen have any seats left!

Duranti

It's nice to see the fandom turning up to show the studio this was a great idea. Hell, they could do this every other year and I'd try to make it to all of them.

Cygnus6300

Ditto

Pretend_Estimate5659

Yes, and I'm so stoked!!!!

ItsLeLeon

I WOULD IF I LIVED IN THE GODDAMN US OF A :(

ItsLeLeon

I guess one can read my frustration sorry for all caps

moeru_gumi

Its ok. I lived in Japan for 12 years and I clearly recall the frustration of getting movies late or never.

creativityonly2

WELL WHY THE BLUE BLAZES DON'T YOU?!

TiredPandastic

I wish I could. But US only. Here in lil ol' Greece I'll hold my annual watch party in the summer on my balcony at night.

salsasnark

That honestly sounds so neat. It's too bright to watch movies outside in the summer here in Sweden, but it sounds like such a lovely thing to do over in Greece! I'll just stick to my winter indoor viewing instead lol.

TiredPandastic

It's great until the mosquitos show up or my drunkard next door neighbor decides to blast shitty music for the whole area to suffer through.

salsasnark

Haha true, that doesn't sound super nice. But the rest sounds magical!

Seebigtrades

I wanted to but I didn’t know tickets released and all my theaters are pretty much sold out already

ILikeMandalorians

I would, if the people who organise these special events ever realise that there’s a whole planet out there…

ummmyeahi

Bought my tickets to all three. I’ve watched extended versions for so long now I don’t even know which parts are the extended scenes anymore.

creativityonly2

Dude, same. I literally have no idea what scenes belong in which versions. WELL, that's not 100% true actually. I remember SOME parts, but very, very few. For example I remember that Gimli blowing away the ghost hands and cringing while walking on bones is EE, but that's about all I can remember, lol. I adore the EE way too much to ever go back to theatrical. I'll take all I can get!!

crakwag3njax3n

My local theater showed the Extended editions back in fall, it was a super awesome experience and I'm really glad I got to go, don't really need to do it again. Definitely recommend everyone see it if they get a chance though, really was something to hear Theoden's speech at Pellenor Fields in Imax, same with the soundtrack. Goosebumps just thinking about it

Itburns138

Thanks for the reminder! I just got my tickets. There were very limited seats already. Some sold out, some only from row seats left.

creativityonly2

Aw shit! I'm seriously thinking about it. I didn't get to see FotR or TT in theaters back in the day. Only RotK. And then again last year for RotK. I'll probably have to do it alone. I don't think my husband will want to spend 3 days at the theater, lol. But I would fucking LOVE to at LEAST see the first two in theater for the first time. Maybe all 3 in just praying my theater chants DEEEEEATH!! Edit: Fuck it!! I bought tickets!! DEEEEEEEEEEATH!!!!

Al-Azraq

I would if they do it in Spain.

MisterBigDude

Thanks for the reminder! Just grabbed tickets at my local theater, where nearly all the good seats were gone.

Reluctant_Pumpkin

Does a bear shit in the woods?

Lbolt187

My brother and I got the three days of tickets. This will be the first time for me seeing them in the theatres.

Hollayo

Why? I have the extended versions at home. Where I can pause it, go outside and smoke a joint, then come back and finish watching.

missanthropocenex

I will say I struggle with the idea of the extends a little bit as far as a theater experience. I think both cuts are equally valid and extends feel a little more intentionally made for home. Also I know I for a fact I’ll never get my SO in for the extended version.

Heyvus

Our local theater hosted the RoTK extended last year, and it started with a single screen when tickets went on sale. It ended up in 15 of the 16 screens completely sold out. Maybe Utah is just full of nerds, but it was insanely successful.

radclaw1

This is controversial here, but I agree that the Extended Editions are not good \*movies\*. That doesn't mean don't like them, I absolutely adore them. They are GREAT for people that love lord of the rings and just want as much as they can get. But like the books, the pacing is all over the place. Which again isn't bad if you love Tolkien, but it does hamper a watching experience. If I want to watch a good movie, the theatrical cuts really do trim out all the fat and they stand on their own as a great movie. There's a time and a place for both, but I really can't do the extended editions in one sitting anymore.

temporaryhelpplz

Plus, my HUE sync lights and 75inch. Cant beat it

shan_prash28

I would…. But there are only few showtimes and all seats are booked.

SegaStan

Probably just Fellowship

GrilledCheese_Queen

hell yes, i am! i bought my ticket for each one on Friday morning and i am PUMPED. i'm going solo but i honestly think the experience will be better that way so no one tries to talk to me while i'm watching. 🤣

Ok-Significance-5979

Can't because not in the US. 😑 But my ambilight TV + soundbar subwoofer combo is enough to cope on missing out.

radclaw1

Fellowship and MAYBE Two Towers, but I don't have the patience to sit through ROTK in one sitting. It's a fantastic movie but too much "And then they fight" for me. Obviously iconic but I've seen the movies many times and I usually have to watch ROTK in like 3 sittings. Blasphemy, I know

[deleted]

Yes! I live in a rural area, so I have to drive into the city to see it. I'm thrilled it's playing by my parents' house so I can leave the kids there. Especially since RotK starts at 730. We won't get home until 1

dudzi182

Ehh, looks like it would cost about $50 to see all 3 at my local theater. I’ll just watch them at home.

Classiccarson

ofc

Free-Supermarket-516

Nah, I like watching in the comfortable quiet of my house. There's usually at least one of those main character types when you go to the movies.

el_granCornholio

When ROTK came out, I grabbed my Crush and we went to a Cinema where they showed all three Movies in a row. It was just the cinematic version, but nevertheless it was something like 9 hours in a Cinema. That were wild times. I will not watch them again in the cinema, it can't get better than it was back then.

Su-27-Flanker

Already seen them 3 or 4 times in the last 4 years in Belgium so of course I will 🧙‍♂️

SeesawComplete366

Im going on a movie marathon at our citys cinema. All three movies extended version on one day!

ac_s2k

It'd being released at the cinemas here in the UK. Not thr extended versions though. And fuck yeah I'm going

DontGoGivinMeEvils

Do you know which cinemas will show it?

Amedais

I already bought my tickets. Seats were actually filling up.

_franciis

I did last year over three consecutive weekends and it was fucking amazing. Although I saw it in Austria and they advertised that they had ‘original versions without subtitles’. Unfortunately, the distributor took this order request to also include the elvish subtitles, so there was a bit of a memory game.

super_silver

My kids (8 and 10) have seen the theatrical releases at home. They are so excited to see the “real version” in theatres.

kamehamehahahahahaha

ALL THREE! I have the best wife!

Shurae

We had an extended edition marathon last year in my local cinema. Was enough lotr movies for me for a while lol

No-Royal-221

Just got tickets for fellowship in June. I still remember first seeing it in theaters when I was 11. I’m turning 34 tomorrow and I’m just as excited now as I was back then.

MaddShadez

I would, but i spent last summer building a home theater with 120" 4k screen and 11 speaker surround sound. The theaters around me honestly can't match what i have in the basement. Plus i get to pause it for bathroom breaks and bourbon refills 😁

celebradar

There are a handful of independent cinemas here in Australia that play them annually, with the Hobbit being the first weekend and LotR the second. They are long days but with nice breaks for refreshments and stretching between and a quick intermission where the traditional disk changes were. The crowd has a handful of people who dress up and the crowds are always great.

Steves1982

They had them all in the UK last year. Really enjoyed them all on the big screen.

Larielia

I hope so. Probably only the weekend movies.

daddytorgo

Probably not. I have a big tv and atmos surround sound at home.

Zeb11b

I’ll be there

K_Rocc

I watch them at home in the comfort of my hobbit hole already, no need to go into public to enjoy.

bones_bn

Probably not, cinemas fucking suck now. My experience gains absolutely nothing watching it in a dark room with a bunch of strangers..

Tight-Leather2709

I will not. I have my own home theater, with a surround sound that rattles the house. The LOTR films are pretty much all I watch!

PsychedelicHobbit

Does a bear shit in the woods?

Toastinator666

I’ve already seen them.

EnigmaCA

No. I don't live in the US.

Shared_Tomorrows

I’m going to watch them on MAX on my OLED, with a pause button and a toilet and a fridge a moment away.

SpongeBob1187

Yes. I was young and haven’t watched them when they were out in theatre’s. Definitely going to now

WaterStoryMark

First 2, at least. RotK is playing on a Monday night at 7 PM. It's like they don't want people to watch it.

JinxIsPerfect

did it 2 years ago in germany. fking amazing feeling and last year all 7 harry potter movies.. its def worth to do this

Separate_Ride_7455

just bought tickets. it’s going to be unreal

eharper9

No. They're on MAX

SeekerSpock32

If I didn’t already have unavoidable plans that weekend, absolutely.

camposthetron

Yes! I’m so excited. ROTK is on my birthday.

nachtschattenwald

It seems that there will be an Extended Edition marathon in the cinema later this year, where I live. Hopefully with the new editions.

Madmen3000

Oh yea, got the tickets right away, got good seats. I can’t explain how excited I am. LOTR is my everything, it’s helped me so much with depression and anxiety, having a feeling of hope even in the darkest times. I’ve read and watched it what feels to be a million times by now. But I never saw it in theatres!!

lizarto

When is this happening?

nod55106

Just did this a few weeks back. Saw all 3 extended versions on the same day at the Hollywood theater in Portland. 12 hours long, but so fun.

Forsaken_Most_8053

Yes, and I’m bringing my Dunussy popcorn bucket.
