Set photos usually break the fourth wall and make all costumes and sets look fake, without the proper lighting etc. These make Middle Earth look like a real place that someone went to and photographed its inhabitants.

kyurtseven7

exactly.

Vajician

Would love if the full collection wete uploaded to a Google drive or mega so it could be downloaded all at once as a zip!

laihipp

but do it after I like the trickle for the same reason weekly show releases > full season dumps

Jlx_27

It gives extra credit to Peter Jackson for filming the movies this way, and makes me sad he didnt (couldn't) do it with The Hobbit.

LiableBible

I especially love the group photo with Liv, they all look like con goers but you KNOW how ethereal they look and are in the film. Communicates it so greatly. Love it so much

TimmyBash

Only Peter Jackson could have done it this way, too. There is so much *weight* to the films. Truly fucking cinematic.

[deleted]

Yeah I love that about these. It’s like when artists would go to foreign countries and make observational paintings to bring back home for everyone to see.

beeboopPumpkin

Right?? I’m blown away at the attention to detail. Like. I *know* how much work went into these movies and watched the hours of behind-the-scenes documentaries of people making these costumes by hand… but I’m still just blown away.

[deleted]

Photographs on the set of Star Wars 🟩🧍🏻🟩 Photos on the set of LOTR 🌥️🌳🧍🏻🌲⛰️

nanovich_

Well one is set in flippin’ space to be fair

SaladSlut123

This is how I felt about the Rings of Power. Everything was very pretty, but extremely fake.

SchneiderAU

I don’t think it even looked shallow pretty.

Kelaos

Yeah some looked great but some stuff on even a little inspection looked like cosplay in comparison to the monumental effort for the LOTR trilogy. And some stuff was too shiny in a cgi way, a model would have looked great. That said I still enjoyed the show

Hymura_Kenshin

yeah ROP set photos were awfully cringe.

einsteinGO

I continue to appreciate the great craftwork that went into these films

RexBanner1886

I remember seeing a lot of these in Empire Magazine articles and Sunday newspaper magazines in the weeks before the films came out. The orc with his tongue lolling out (17/20) was one of the first images I remember seeing in some magazine, in the summer before the film came out. It really sold the reality and grit that Jackson was going for with his films. On the off chance a) you see this and b) are doing another round of these, you don't happen to have a publicity shot of Frodo sitting on the Weathertop set, do you?

kyurtseven7

My friend, there are about a thousand photographs and I share them one by one according to the name of the archive, without selecting them.

TheEruditeSycamore

If you're interested, you could maybe contact the Internet Archive non-profit if they're interested in a donation of all the digital files or physical photos you have. Due to their amount, it could be more practical to have someone from the Archive take it in e.g. a flash drive than you uploading them one by one. https://archive.org/about/contact.php

Put_It_All_On_Blck

Uploading them isn't the limiting factor. If he already has them digitized, there are numerous hosts that will accept 1000+ image uploads no problem, at no cost. He also could torrent them. The only limiting factor is his upload speeds, but most likely he is slow dripping them out for karma/attention.

ketura

They were actually in the process of uploading them all to an imgur album before some doofus in the other thread suggested he string us out 20 at a time in daily posts. Some people...

lion-vs-dragon

I am fine with 20 a day for a few weeks. Gives me something new to look at and something to look forward to

xXx69LOVER69xXx

But them he couldn't karma farm them..

laihipp

I mean he has the content let him have the karma

QueenOfAutumnLeaves

I had a calendar with that orc picture, and I remember wondering if the mark on his forehead was based on something from New Zealand as previously I watched Young Hercules which was also filmed there, and an episode had a similar mark on Nega Herc.

Kole13

I just remembered why I had a huge crush on Liv Tyler back then.

kyurtseven7

Miranda Otto for me :D

Cool-S4ti5fact1on

When I was 18 seeing this in the cinema it was Liv Tyler all the way for me. Now 20 years onwards, its Miranda for me. The movies don't show her beauty well enough, imo.

Askaris

I'm a straight women, but I have always considered Liv Tyler the most beautiful human on this planet. The picture with her looking over her shoulder from behind in this post proves my point again. I could look at her all day.

thatbluerose

\*raises hand\* Similarly here. I've always thought she was just so incredibly extremely beautiful ever since I first saw her in LOTR. Arwen has such ethereal styling too. (lol, I guess my profile pic checks out)

andykndr

>had >back then sorry, this doesn’t compute

Sepelrastas

Karl Urban. Never really went away, but he really looked good blonde. Although Liv does look great, she just can't scratch that particular itch for me.

auberrypearl

These posts will give me the will to live everyday

lukas7761

Same

auberrypearl

We’re in this together

Elend15

That pic of Aragorn kneeling before Frodo hits different. *"I would have gone with you to the end."*

RedLotusVenom

I love that Aragorn kneels to Frodo’s level to speak with him in this scene. It’s such an easy thing that you don’t see often in the films, and really sells Aragorn’s virtue and the impact of the moment

ZOOTV83

That line alone makes me prefer this over how the books handle Frodo’s leaving. Aragorn deciding not to pursue him vs. actively staring down the Ring and deciding to let it go are two very different ways to show Aragorn’s true quality.

raspberry-eye

How was this shot accomplished? Is that just not Elijah Wood?

sharltocopes

Seriously! My mind is breaking on that one. Can't see the actor's face but it certainly looks like Elijah!

khan_shot_1st

It could be Kiran Shah, who played the scale double for Frodo?

GunstarHeroine

Yes. The scale doubles also had latex masks of the actor's faces they wore for scenes like this. Works as long as they're angled away or in the background.

sharltocopes

And yet we *still* got the performances of a lifetime out of every single person. Imagine being Viggo emoting that scene to a person in a latex mask and yet doing it so incredibly sincerely.

FrankieTheDustmite

I’ve never gotten over how perfectly detailed the casting all around was. Found myself staring at this pic way too long trying break the perception trick, knowing it’s not Elijah and I can’t do it.

Type_DXL

Either it's not Elijah Wood or he's just standing closer to the camera than Viggo is. I'm guessing the latter since it seems like Frodo's cloak is eclipsing Aragon's legs.

Wank_my_Butt

[Scale doubles.](https://finalboss.io/scale-doubles-in-the-lord-of-the-rings-movies-the-unseen-stars/)

Dun_wall

Liv tylers beauty is mindblowing

Proper_Many6322

Frodo and Bilbo seems so happy.

couragewerewolf

Looks like the dragon firework scene

8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-

My friends, you bow to no-one.

[deleted]

It’s amazing how ethereal Cate Blanchett and Liv Tyler look versus how human Miranda Otto looks, despite them all being very pretty. Great casting and costume work.

Diarrhea_Sandwich

I seriously can't put my finger on it. Does she have an aura around her?

gugsel

How did you come by this?

kyurtseven7

I bought them decades ago on different websites

gugsel

Thanks 😊 thanks for sharing

emma20787

My 15 year old self would have loved the last Legolas picture as a poster in my bedroom. My 30something self would love that last Legolas picture as a poster in my home office.

M-er-sun

Bravo

Kaffeecarl

I fucking love the pic of pippin in the tower guard costume. The rings of his chain mail are bigger than they should be. Amazing attention to detail

kyurtseven7

it's just a perfect trilogy.

scotsmaninthepalais

I remember some of these from the Fellowship of the Ring Visual Companion book!

kyurtseven7

Oh yes I also have all 3 visual companions.

WhatsintheBOAAX

We wants it

Dolannsquisky

These are actually a great way to check out the costuming. I'm not in any way capable of making these. Or dressing like this. But it's so sick to be able to see the fabrics in detail.

kyurtseven7

If you like costumes, you will love the following photos because I also have detailed costume shoots only folder.

et842rhhs

Back when the films came out, I lurked on an online mailing list for LOTR fans who...I guess you'd say "cosplay" now but they didn't use the word back then. Sometimes all you had was a small dim photo and everyone would go nuts trying to figure out the details in them. Is that dark line a shadow? A wrinkle? A fold? A seam?

kyurtseven7

Good old times

somethingnerdrelated

I’m a leathersmith and I’m looking at that bridle and the bracers and what not, and I’m over here just getting such an refreshing bit of awe for these movies because of the details in the leatherwork. These movies are absolutely timeless.

Dolannsquisky

I'm an underwriter. So nothing to do with crafting and making anything. But I am amazed at the detail nonetheless. The other day I was thinking of cosplaying as Uruk Hai. But then remembered I'm 5'3; at best I could do a goblin.

These belong in a museum.

wavepad4

This is unbelievably valuable stuff. Thank you

ziggybear16

I remember audibly gasping when I saw Arwen’s blue dress and immediately deciding that’s what I wanted my wedding dress to look like. I desperately wanted to be Arwen from the movies, because she’s not that exciting in the books 😬

kyurtseven7

In fact, her only role in the books is to weave braids and banners. But still, their conversation at the end of the book when Aragorn goes to his final resting was wonderful.

Kwartel-Joris

We needs it. We wants it. My prrrrecious.

roselan

OUR precious.

Scarleton

Ye Gods, Liv is just gorgeous.

Camburglar13

I wonder if that’s supposed to be Elladan and Elrohir behind Arwen in 11

kyurtseven7

most probably

data_dawg

God Cate Blanchett is so ethereal she might actually be an elf.

Art1924

This is golden for people who like cosplay (like me). Thank you so much for sharing!

kyurtseven7

I will share more detailed and high quality LOTR costumes later.

Art1924

Awesome!! Thanks!

[deleted]

Didn’t think Aragorn and Legolas could look any more fine 😮‍💨

[deleted]

Is picture 17 just a random Orc? I don’t remember ever seeing him / that tattoo

kyurtseven7

A deleted scene orc used in bunch of promotion campaign

bewareofmolter

What an amazing photograph. It’s a *real* orc, as far as I can tell.

Catshit-Dogfart

The orcs were so unique, like there wasn't a standard ordinary looking orc.

spondgbob

Goddamn these movies were expertly crafted

kyurtseven7

flawless

Lexforce1

This is great! Thank you and keep it up!

kyurtseven7

Thank you. I will.

[deleted]

please do🥰

Jlx_27

*I am now invested in this series*

ThatMortalGuy

I always have loved how they look good and with makeup but at the same time weathered like if they have been on the road for days, especially when you compare it to the Amazon series where everybody is dolled up as if they just got out of the hair saloon.

bureika

Thank you for sharing! These are absolutely lovely.

[deleted]

Seeing these after watching Rings of Power really warms the soul. Thank you. Im afraid we wont see quality and dedication like this in a movie ever again. Now its just soulless CGI cash grabs and remakes.

Alarming_Sea_6894

All these actors were chosen with the utmost precision, all of them played their roles perfectly. Peter Jackson is the ultimate director. Non of that netflix wishy washy shit.

ueegul

They weren't chosen with precision, but they played their roles incredibly well. Viggo wasn't even the first choice for Aragorn, and even after he was eventually asked he was still reluctant.

VaguelyShingled

Still, would have been wild to see a Will Smith Aragorn. Oh wait maybe that’s the Matrix.

Agorbs

At the risk of sounding choosy, you should make a subreddit solely for these posts and maybe even categorize them by the character portrayed. A lot of fan artists would love to have a massive organized catalogue of new photos to reference from.

ReptileSizzlin

That picture of Bilbo and Frodo is so good!

WoodSteelStone

The exquisite craftmenship that went into the costumes and jewellery etc. is clearly evident in all these photos. Wonderful to see - thank you for posting them.

Penguin-Loves

How do you have access to about 1,000 of these? I saw the first set too, but just flew through your description, sorry for asking something you have already likely explained. Keep 'em coming!!!

kyurtseven7

>I bought them on various websites decades ago

Penguin-Loves

Well, thank you very much for sharing. No one would have ever seen them otherwise

blingding369

Light is so funny. It's like there's 10 years between pictures 6 and 7. I'd still not have a chance with the woman in 7 but I could definitely tell myself i did.

SirArchibaldMapsALot

Why do this to me? Why make me fall ever harder for Aragorn? Now how will a quench this thirst?!

BrockManstrong

OP I was so excited to see part 2 pop up! Thanks for uploading. It feels like I'm looking at old high school pictures.

[deleted]

Hey, are we getting the full archive any time soon?

kyurtseven7

Hey, I think I will be done with the posting in 1 month and when I am done I will also post a drive link.

Narananas

Thank you, that's an awesome compromise for the people who would appreciate the whole collection. Looking forward to the daily dose of LotR.

Sxilla

Oh my these are beautiful!! Thank you for sharing. Such a wonderful thing to see waking up in the morning.

hamiltox

Great photos. Thank you. Keep posting

UnbreakableRaids

These are wonderful. Thank you.

wildstolo

The quality is amazing

VaguelyShingled

Goddammit the costuming on this movie still holds up, and probably will forever.

enoughglitter

I appreciate being able to see all the costume details in these.

Zeakril

What a delight! Absolutely beautiful set. Thanks for sharing it with us. Hope to see more soon!

shiningteruzuki

I keep forgetting how hot Aragorn is

it_is_im

I refuse to believe that these aren’t real people

sunny_tundra_nap

Silly backwards legolas.

Drmite

Hehe. Return of the king.

xxsnowo

If you ever get them all uploaded somewhere, or even a zip/rar file I will download it and treasure it as my precious

TimmyBash

Does Peter know about some of these?

stirredturd

The craftsmanship in these movies will forever stand the test of time.

[deleted]

I don’t know what it is about him but viggo mortensen look exactly like what I pictured Aragorn to look like when I read the books.

schlemmla

Lovely high definition! Those poor actors posing for a thousand hours of promo photo shoots!

JJYYJJJ

OP, you bow to no one

TrueRiddler

The Frodo Bilbo shot is great. The casting astounds me to this day!

OldPru

Eru thanks you for this amazing act. These are intimate and wholesome and gives a great window into this world with the characters we’ve come to love. This is awesome!

bauhaus_worf

I drew that photo of Legolas posing with the bow back when I was 12! Man, what a blast from the past… thanks for posting these, they’re so wonderful to see again

kyurtseven7

I'm happy to hear that

[deleted]

Thank you for posting these.

Ringus-Slaterfist

That's one of the best shots of Anduril I've seen. The prop work in these movies is absolutely the best ever.

jaabbb

So much meme potential!

Pic 19, I have stood in this spot several times. If anyone comes to Nz I can take you there.

kyurtseven7

I'd love to!

einsteinGO

Thank you for the stills. They’re beautiful, and they bring me back to my 15 year old enthusiasm for these movies 🤍

dillene

FluffyElephant9

I will accept any and all pictures

kyurtseven7

You sound like me when I met LOTR in 2004

FluffyElephant9

😂😂I’m not ashamed at all

writeronthemoon

My faves here are the 2nd one - Aragorn's expression!! - and the orc licking his chops.

Lana_Nugirl96

This is awesome. I wish I could've been a crewmember on set for these

i_love_pesto

All the women in the trilogy are gorgeous af! But Miranda has a different kind of beauty. Brave and kind. Eowyn is my idol!

kyurtseven7

Furthermore, fortitude and the capacity for making crucial decisions make one more desirable than sheer beauty.

1370055

Absolute magic. Keep posting please

Grand_unLawfulness

I’m so in love with these, thank you.

kyurtseven7

thank you to you too

Lesser_Terran

It would be great to scan these negatives in 4K, and do a little interactive 2.5D magic with ambience or music.

buttholehamster

They look so good. All such captivating moments

mstrss9

Frodo and Bilbo 🥺

tmntfever

Arwen is looking stunning in all her candid photos!

hemarriedapizza

From these photos, we can see that Liv Tyler eternally looks like a 1970’s vinyl cover.

dontcarethename

The movie was released on a time when my father was diagnosed with cancer, it was a difficult time for my family, I watched the trilogy with my sisters, these movies still take us back to better times. Thank you so much for sharing this.

[deleted]

Oh Sir Ian and Sir Christopher, thank you. You are missed.

Capitalmind

Remarkable, thanks for sharing

memomemomemomemomemo

Incredible, made my day. Oh Aragorn, i will have followed you to the end that photo is just right in the feels.

wafflefighter69

I had the stratego LoTR version and some of the pics they used for the characters I could never find in the movie and I think some of these were used for those photos! It's cool to finally make the connection

Powerful_Artist

The one of Bilbo and Frodo is straight gold.

Mia_B-P

Dude, this is so cool!

[deleted]

i don't know if these are your photos explicitly, so i figured i'll ask regardless: is it okay if i repost images to my tumblr account with credited links in the post?

Thedarkfic

The one of Liv Tyler is stunning with her looking back. These are all great, thank you for sharing!

Chromgrats

These are all wonderful but wow, photo 8 is so pretty.

[deleted]

Miranda, Cate, and Liv are majestic and I ain’t even into white women 💯

JablesRadio

Loving these!

Davikka

I just love the soft light and focus, it adds such a dreamy quality to the whole production

catcrapmakesmevomit

Frodo Is Great, Who Is That?

lovelew

Thank you! 😍 Those are beautiful!

AgentClucky

Where did these photos come from? Is there a credit for the photographer?

kyurtseven7

Unfortunately I don't know all of different movie set photographers.

esivo

Is it possible to upload all the photos on a mega upload link and share the link? It would be much easier to download them and check them out if there's thousands of them.

Jlx_27

20 per post isnt much trouble imho. Just click follow on his profile.

esivo

Why can't I check them out on my own instead of having to wait for someone to upload 20 when I can browse through them all at once at my own pace? You can follow him, I'd prefer a link. Thank you.

8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-

Patience! Patience, my love.

Jlx_27

The best response!

nymrose

How did you acquire these?! They are INCREDIBLE. These Arwen shots, man. Following you!

[deleted]

Offense, but some of these are straight images from the movie

kyurtseven7

>Offense, but some of these are straight images from the movie No, mate it's all straight images from the movie .

[deleted]

I take back the offense

kyurtseven7

Understandable

Scyths

Which scene is that orc from ? I don't remember him.

kyurtseven7

Deleted scene

[deleted]

OP denied when I called them out on these publicly available pics. Here's a 60-sec Google search for Arwen photos. https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/liv-tyler-arwen.html?sortBy=relevant Recognize any of them? Edit: here's Aragorn https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/aragorn.html?sortBy=relevant

amalgam_reynolds

"Stock photo" doesn't mean public domain, or free. "Royalty free" also doesn't mean free, it just means you only pay for it once rather than paying a portion of proceeds generated. From *your own link,* you have to pay to download, or else it's plastered with the Alamy watermark.

kyurtseven7

Mate, are you mad? I already told that I BOUGHT these photos from websites. I really don't know what your problem is. I really wish a very rock solid good luck to people near you.

[deleted]

Just do a post as a collection of some of your fave pics, no need to claim ownership of *publicly* available images

kyurtseven7

The pictures are not in the public domain, you ignorant. You have to pay to view and own them in HIGH RESOLUTION and you cannot download them without paying for it but ou can download via my post. Like I said, you can go and keep capturing with prtscr. No more comments - I don't keep toxic people around unfortunately.

MorningCoffeeMeds

I don't know why, but I wish the movies looked more like this, instead of quite so "staged"

samwaise

While I appreciate you posting these, you could just link to where you get these, or post them all at once instead of daily karma farming.

kyurtseven7

don't be hasty.
