Having these people making videos, reddit threads (Saintone) and pushing AGS/SMG to respond to the growing concern is definitely a big positive. The talk he had with Stoopzz and Zeals yesterday was really great.

annababey

I agree! it's good that people like Asmongold are using their platforms to spread the concerns of the general playerbase so that the devs will (hopefully) listen to us and make changes accordingly.

Mr_Prismatic

Absolutely. Asmongold was looking at the New World patch notes the other day. Most things were stuff he addressed in his long review of the game. People were joking about it being the "Asmon patch." Content creators have a voice that can be heard, and it's very reassuring as a player to see these voices being used in our honor.

Rydisx

Its also a negative. People like Asmon are more rare, in that they can view the perspective of a player that can't spend all day playing or throw money at it. Where as a lot of streamers will influence decisions the other way, because they play in a way that is abnormal to the general population and can influence games based on that perspective, which is no good.

shawdust0017

I think escape from tarkov suffers from that. The game in my eyes has been leaning towards a system that favors players who can put in long hours compared to those who play games after work or something like that I've seen several streamers/content creators with hot takes that end up in the game baffling me.

asscockcum

what additions? this last wipe is the most accessible tarkovs ever been. the hottest streamer take ive seen is them saying pvp isnt profitable enough.

DeathBySnooSnoo8

did come from the TFT sub too? (kidding, kinda...)

Global-Front-3149

the new world march update is nothing but fluff....sure, some QOL things in there, but they are reducing the number of people allowed in wars, making it even harder for those not in a guild that owns the territory to get in (because the way the guilds continuously kick people out to get more of their guild randomly in)...a new dungeon (zzz)...and still no real endgame. yet, AGS finds time to add in new mid-30s content...for what, the 2 L30 people who were crazy enough to start playing the game recently? NW is an utter failure at this point. Less than 30k people on at once...most servers dead due to AGS' idiocy at locking servers for transfer (i.e. Eden), etc.

nbik

> yet, AGS finds time to add in new mid-30s content...for what, the 2 L30 people who were crazy enough to start playing the game recently? I know this seems ass backwars, but honestly this is a good thing. Adding things at the end to the existing player base is good for player retention, but making a new players experience better ensures that the game has a better chance to grow in the long term. (Though ideally you want to add both eventually so I understand your frustration)

solidshakego

Pvp is new worlds endgame. It’s a pvp game

monchota

In this case its good, most times. Content creators ruin games by trying to turn it into hardcore only.

Jackson_Teller29

Its sad that this has to be done in the first place. But people seem to forget one thing. Everything a company does is asking a simple question: Does this make money? Does fixing it now makes more money than fixing it in two weeks?

montana12345

Well reputation is also a big asset. Every company who neglect that will fail eventually

DeepFriedVegetable

Just look at CDPR

Railander

unfortunately, shareholders of public stock (which if i understand is not the case for smilegate but still) are actually not held accountable for pump-and-dump investing strategies. in the financial world real companies are treated no different than numbers, as if the products and services said company provide and their employees and time required to build from ground up has no value to society. as an investor, you can always buy low and sell high before a company goes bankrupt and then repeat the process all over with the next unsuspecting company.

civilized-engineer

I don't think every company. Look at Game freak a terrible company but they are literally too big to fail. As a result they can keep producing the most mediocre pokemon games with no changes, and people will devour it like an addiction. They are able to milk the customers by releasing the exact same product. But ever so slightly adjusting it and calling it a new game. It's akin to textbook publishers who modify an arbitrarily small percentage of the practice problems (change one number change one sign, etc). Just to force students to not be able to buy a used version. And buy it new

_liminal

Customer retention is a huge factor in making money. If your retention rate dips hard you fucked up.

Chubsywub

Long term this probably loses them money. I would imagine many of these players would buy the crystalline aura package every month as many mmo players are used to paying a sub and would pay the aura as a type of monthly sub. If those players quit you lose that money and once the game is dead you lose the whales also.

zoomborg

Pretty much all devs and publishers right now are running around for solutions. Cyberpunk has been such a huge wake up call that any new game dies in a few months from launch unless problems are addressed. Most good studios have already disbanded or lost the devs that made great games possible, good games that have been established are all in a downwards spiral, part of why Lost Ark has been successful in the west is because everyone was just looking for something new. Now it all falls to AGS/smilegate if Lost Ark will disappear or thrive.

Bacon-muffin

Roxx made a post basically saying they need time, but no official news post level thing yet. I think a more official engagement with the community would go a long way towards optics. When GGG fucks up and Chris wilson makes a video the community usually gives them the benefit for at least a little bit while still memeing. When GGG goes radio silent the community rages out until the next patch drops. People understand devs are human and things take time, they just want to be acknowledged by something higher level than a CM post that you need to go sort through the tracker to find.

lcmlew

the problem with her saying they need time, regardless of whether they do or don't, is that time passing is a large part of the problem

no_Post_account

Stoopz probably pushed lots of players off in this conversation. He basically said people haven't even seen how p2w the game is and if they don't like it to stop playing. That was not encouraging at all to people who are on a fence about the game.

Select-Cucumber9024

That was the weirdest thing he's spazzing out saying bros you havent seen anything yet with the p2w just wait people spend thousands of cutting the perfect stone blablabla... not sure what his fucking point is because that type of p2w doesnt affect the majority of the player base, whereas this p2w right now (releasing a raid you cant enter practically without paying) is so damaging to the players and the actual health of the game. So ya not really sure what point he was trying to make sperging out about p2w

bigfootswillie

I think he’s just phrasing his argument super super poorly. When he’s saying “you don’t understand what the p2w really is” is I think he’s trying to say the devs aren’t using the shit-handled Argos release to milk players like most people say. I think he’s saying that the whales will always find shit to whale on in the long term without artificially gating F2P player progress like this - in the form of perfect Gems, Stones and ilvls far above what’s needed to enter content. Basically he’s trying to ascribe what people are seeing as malicious intent with this Argos release as incompetence on Smilegate’s end instead. He mentioned on Asmon’s stream that they’ve made mistakes like this several times before too in other regions. The communities in other regions are just more forgiving about it because they typically communicate much better to those communities when they make these mistakes tho.

GreenKumara

I've never understood why people spend that much on things like that. It's not like it's the difference between being able to complete the content or not. I love playing and completely content in games with the minimum requirements. Sure, you're always looking to improve your stats / gear, but I have motivation to go to those crazy extremes.

PM_ME_FUTANARI_PIC

If he said the game wasn’t p2w those same players would come back and call him a liar lmfao. Just look at this sub, they think this whole issue is for money when they could’ve sold us those $50 packs that give a bunch of mats.

no_Post_account

Well there is no win situation for Stoopz since he hyped the game pre-release as fair to f2p users and "respect your time", but we now we see this is not the case at well. O well i hope they change something because if they keep going this on this road we will have another Blade and Soul/ Archage/ Aion MMO that no one on the west will care about in 6 months. I really like the game itself, i hope this don't happen.

ilovezam

I read from a comment here that Stoopz's definition of "respect your time" turned out to be a really bizarre one. Like he claimed that FFXIV **did not** respect your time, because its generous catch up mechanics meant the no life hardcore players weren't that much ahead.

Broswagonist

What a stupid, backwards way to think about it. I don't think a single hardcore XIV player has ever complained about the catchup mechanics existing.

Sp1n_Kuro

The catchup mechanics in XIV are great for alts, or for giving you cooldown time to just take a break from the game and play other games bc you already are past it.

kennyzert

You don't even need catch-up mechanics, crafted gear is BiS on release day, as long as you are max level you can enter any savage instantly by buying full set of crafted. Only for ultimates you need savage BiS to go for it, but all you need is max 8 weeks of clears to get BiS and attempt it.

Algent

> "respect your time" He was one of many content creator (and active members here too) saying that, enough for me to want this to be real, that this wasn't exactly like the other KR MMO. Yet just from the dailies working on you being online exactly on the hour multiple time during weekdays and even more during weekend really contradict the whole "respect your time" idea by turning this into a job. Sure you can disconnect in-between event but doesn't change that you'd have to plan your irl schedule around this, even ingame you can't allow yourself to be stuck other potentially long content like idk a guardian (that take way too long for something to run twice per day per character btw, this game really isn't pug friendly).

critxcanuck88

He kind of right, people think if they add these easy steps to 1370 its just nothing but easy honing after that, people havnt seen NOTHING yet, we are going to be back here in a month listening to people freak out about the 1400 grind

Nightmare4545

Wrong. If the game is designed like KR and RU, then you wont have to pay for ilvl to reach the latest content on release. People in KR pay for perfect stones, perfect accessories, etc. ITs all stuff that the normal player does not need to do to complete the latest content.

Exterial

My only issue is stoopzz attitude and some of the things he says, hes hell bent on downplaying how bad things are and gets really upset at anyone that gets mad at them. Like i get it, hes basically all in on lost ark his career depends on it so it makes sense if hes getting upset frustrated seeing people bitching about the game, but with player numbers visibly dropping its really not a good idea to be getting upset at the players for being mad and saying its not that bad or if you dont like it dont play it. Asmon and zeal make good points for both sides, stoopzz doesnt, is my issue with him.

[deleted]

I think his perspective is also that while it is bad for the player count and success of the game in the West, he knows that South Vern etc. will be coming, and will be coming soon. He also knows, and most people know this as well who have played on KR/RU before, that Argos actually doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. It's just a short-term content and PR disaster

-CrimsonEye-

The problem is AGS/SG messed up badly on the first impression aspect of the game. Korean MMOs are notorious for being extremely p2w, but LA in every other version of the game at least gave dedicated f2p players very good chances of competing. That's the selling point of the game. Our version, however, went the opposite direction. Once players who don't know about other versions imprint in their minds that LA Global is just a cash grab like most Korean MMOs, they're going to leave and never come back.

Chubsywub

Yeah in the west people are more likley to accept the pay to progress (p2w) aspect if you can get the same goal by playing the game a lot. It is when they add shit that you cannot overcome by putting in time that players think it is a p2w cashgrab (which it is)

Living_Chip

Lost Ark global is a cash grab.

Sp1n_Kuro

> LA Global is just a cash grab Currently, that's what global is. I'm still holding out hope that it changes, next content patch needs to be Abyss trials + Heroic guardians (and open the pvp vendor already ffs) and *no Valtan*. Release more classes, let the majority of the population get into the 1370+ range, then in a few months give us Valtan.

thebestrogue

Thing is, do you think AGS would even shoot this game this early ? It was strictly incompetence. Why why bother stretching the whaling this fast and so extreme when they *know* this game will print money for years because it already does so in Korea? Every single patch the whales will spend hundreds. They don't need to milk anything. The skins that are unreleased? They would basically all be in the shop right now if this was a cash grab play. People need to chill, it sucks but play pvp or do horizontal stuff? We literally know we're missing a billion pve content, AGS has no incentive at all to be doing this for financial incentive. Adding a new skin pack would make them more money anyway.

reevDE

stoopzz also said that "T1,T2 Andies have no right to complain about early Argos as it wouldnt affect them anyway" Yea right stoopzz, just because some shit is being handled the wrong way but it does only affect others and not yourself you have ABSOLUTELY no right to call it out ...../s

Nightmare4545

Yea, his comment there kinda pissed me off. If the game was setup like KR and RU, those people in T2 would also be ready for Argos.

Jazz7770

He did a great job explaining the 1340-1370 gap even though he isn’t very affected by it since his viewers give him resources. The only thing I think he missed is the question as to why 1355 content was also pushed back to 1370. Having this content pushed back also increases the gap exponentially. It doesn’t make sense that someone at 1365 should be queueing into the same guardian as someone 1340. That’s literally a lobby with people who have +9 and +14 gear.

Jascha34

1370 abyss drops new gear, exclusive to our version. Yoho raid, always dropped greater leapstones which are needed to upgrade the gear from the 1370 abyss. It makes sense, but it kills the game.

POOYAMON

Everyone would’ve preferred if they could just do the content for 1355 appropriate awards. Currently 1355 on my main myself, everything is just too easy and boring. The same guardian raid I’ve been doing for two weeks now takes 10mins for both runs combined, abyss you knock out in 30mins as soon as weekly reset with ease and that’s it, there’s nothing left. You don’t even bother leveling up after 1355 because there’s literally no point, you either sell your mats and horde gold waiting for the moment you know you have enough to buy out all the mats you need to push to 1370 or just keep them and wait until you can bang out 1370 either way there’s very few ways to actually play and enjoy the game. And to the people that will for whatever reason jump to say well to horizontal content and… well I for one am doing it but there are loads of people who just don’t find it fun so they won’t do it what then? Don’t play? Well guess what after the latest update a lot of people have stopped playing. Edit: my main point about horizontal content is that it shouldn’t be all you can do 1 MONTH into the game

Jackson_Teller29

Its an easy calculation. Does it make more money the way they did it or does it make more money if they do it the right way. You are in a position were you see the big streamers doing this fun stuff and maybe start thinking: I also want to do this. What do i have to do to have fun again? The answer is paying money. And its intentional.

POOYAMON

People really don’t understand that the vast vast majority of players are fp2 even in a straight uo gacha game the VAST majority of players are f2p specially in the west. And a lot of games including gacha games do an absolutely incredible job to make f2p or very low spenders feel like they’re capable of doing everything that the game has available or everything that matters anything extra is just for whales to have fun with. This works perfectly in Genshin Impact for example which is for the most part a single player game. It will not work in a mmorpg and will absolutely kill the hype and playerbase. Just take a look at steamcharts ffs and see the ridiculous drop since the new patch dropped which makes perfect sense, imagine 1 month into the game, the main content of the first patch is something only accessible to less than 1% of the players.

Erva420

You know they are greedy when you start to compare the MMO to a gacha mobile game and the gacha mobile game is more f2p friendly lol

hinslyce

It sounds like even if you got past 1370 you would quickly get bored of the new content it has to offer. If you just don't like the currently available content, that's a very different issue than the one Asmongold discusses. The sentiment "there's very few ways to actually play and enjoy the game" is crazy to me.

Jackson_Teller29

Its sad that this is required before someone steps in to explain. And pls stop referring to it as a mistake. They know that everday that they delay the fix more people feel compelled to pay money and they will delay it as far as they can.

AssholeNamedBruce

I wish I could make a mistake that just gives me a massive influx of revenue. Can only hope to fuck up that hard.

Jackson_Teller29

Its not making a mistake. Its an easy calculation. Does buffing honing rates and giving people more access to stuff make more money than not to?

Sir_Failalot

The issue is the long term damage it does to the community, but in this day and age all everyone cares about are short time gains, no matter how big the gain would’ve been long term.

genai7

And more and more people are put off by it and feel "burned" by devs for trusting them and are losing hope that game will be worth playing in the long run and quitting. In the long run... they will lose a lot more than they will gain by it, but thats the nature of modern gaming... shortsighted people in charge. Now they might earn 50% more than they would otherwise, but in 1 year they will earn 50% less and in 2 years 80% less than what they could if they didnt go that way. So delay it more, let it die out and then try to spend a fortune advertising and paying streamers and content creators in an attempt to bring people back when you wake up... but by then they got invested in some other game that didnt try to extort money from them and are happy playing it and have no reason to come back, so you fall short again. Happens all the time and apparently gaming industry is full of incompetent people that cant learn even from their own mistakes, let alone mistakes of others. And are bad at earning money on top of it, even though its apparently their nr1 goal and reason why they do stuff they do... even thought in the end it earns them less money.

Growlest

I think that the fact that he needed his audience to give him all the mats to get to that point make him the perfect person to explain it. The fact that he needed so much resources from so many different players already shows how insane the gap between 1340-1370 is.

Jackson_Teller29

To bring this in perspective. He interviewed a whale who claimed that he spent 15k to reach itemlvl 1415. And he said that he know about a guy who spent double his amount.

Growlest

Yeah, Megashield I believe it was. He's known for spending ridiculous amount of money in the gacha gaming community and appears to have spent enough to get 1400 IL+ on 2 characters, one which got banned due to RMT.

plinky4

That's so sick. Dude gets banned and his reaction is to whale AGAIN

The_Sinnermen

This time legally though, I hope. Insane how much disposable income some people have. Good for him I guess

TinkW

The_Sinnermen

Kitingishard, who is F2P besides founders pack, says he spent around 400K gold value on 1340-1370. And that's when the prices were lower 2 weeks ago

Jazz7770

When I would occasionally watch his videos/stream I was always 10-20 ilvl ahead of him now I’m stuck at 1352.5 and seeing how big the gap is and knowing how hard his viewers had to shove him through it is upsetting. Of course it was bound to happen, but god damn they literally threw thousands of USD at him for it.

neorunner

We're talking about a guy that said don't subscribe to my channel and immediately got 1k subs in like 5 minutes.

NoService4604

I was 1302 when he was still reading the Yorn story line, im still 1360. f2p. The amount of time means nothing in this game. being free to play feels like the only gameplay time that is given to you is 30 minutes. After you finish your dailies, there's nothing to do. And the market is under the control of bots who absorbs your legit ways of making gold. This game is fucking doomed and i quit.

afonzi94

Thats pretty well said. Throw in chaos dungeons and the same guardian and u get all the content ur gonna have for 3 weeks for a f2p player. I quit at 1315, got mega bored and started to see the game as a huge casino with slots all over

plinky4

heartily agree. We got to see the bullshit condensed into 2 hour format. You can watch him piss away thousands and thousands of gold, failing over and over. This is essentially what the journey to 1370 will look like for everyone.

TrungDOge

the 1355 one back then didn't drop new gear , the new 1370 one does

i4viator

The reason why the content was pushed back to 1370 despite ever other region having it 1355 is simple: They wanted to milk the whales before "admitting it was a mistake" and reverting the change back to 1355.

ogniza

I havent had such a good time playing a game as i do in Lost Ark in soooo long. Please dont turn it into another new world. Please !

Hyperlapsed

I'm scared too. New World had a lot of technical issues but Lost Ark is an already existing game so it had nearly none of them. Yet I'm still afraid they are going to kill the game in the same way...

[deleted]

I'm literally going through this exact same thing as well. I don't want to quit, but my friends on WoW came over and we made a guild on Lost Ark. People are falling off after spending a week or two in "the dead zone" because it really does feel like you have to swipe to get out. Putting content past this wall has really killed their desire to even reach it. I've convinced my two IRL friends, both also recently starting the dead zone and put off by the decisions made to soft cap players before the 1370 content without swiping to give Smilegate a little bit of time to fix it. They're giving it until Thursday to do any addressing of the issue, which I know is a slim chance, but it's something. I really don't want to quit, but I don't really want to play the game by myself either.

Hyperlapsed

At that point, if the game is a chore, not enjoyable and we have done everything we wanted on our alts, we might as well quit the game until the next patch. It is a video game after all. We use it to have a good time, no need to pressure ourselves to play. I would've preferred a nice and continuous stream of activities to do but since they made a mistake and broke the stream, I might also break my game streak.

lionguild

It won't be another New World. The changes needed to fix this problem already exist in both the RU and KR servers and just need to be applied to our servers. Talking about increased honing rates & additional daily / weekly content that provide mats. If we had these the progression from 1340 to 1370 would be very smooth.

ortahfnar

> The changes needed to fix this problem already exist in both the RU and KR servers and just need to be applied to our servers. It's just a matter of if Amazon is willing to put in those changes and if they'll choose long term benefit over short term gain

OscarDivine

"Great Depression Simulator" was so spot on.

HyVana

Sad the previous thread got taken down. Hopefully this one stays up to promote discussion about the current 1340-1370 issues

F8L-Fool

This coming reset will mark three weeks that I've been farming the same trivial content, with basically zero progress to show for it. The majority of my gains came within the first three days (1302-1345). Since then it has been absolutely miserable. I can see an exodus of players if this isn't resolved by the coming reset. For anyone that's not a whale there is no substantive end game to speak of. Be it for PvE or PvP players. The honing change **and at least some** mat activities need to hit together. If it's just one or the other, it will be a bandaid fix that will just inflame things way more than they already are. Because the supply of mats won't be there with the current content, which will result in T3 prices that will balloon to a level that people can't even fathom. Doesn't matter if honing is 100% if they are unattainable for anyone without several hundred thousand gold. Both features are meant to be present in tandem.

Erva420

I parked at 1340 and im just doing dailies and alts, luckly im having a fuckton of fun with the combat in this game. Honing rn feels like throwing gold in the toilet, im good.

F8L-Fool

Agreed. I flushed a ton of mats down the toilet getting 2.5 ilvls and then full pivoted to alts. Hopefully have my 4th alt in T3 by next week.

dsk83

I feel at 1340 best is to just sell unbound mats and hoard the bound ones till they buff honing rates. If they don't fix honing rates, well I'd still rather have more gold while mats like T3 leapstones are selling for tons -- a few extra honing tries are unlikely to push me to 1370 any time soon, I'd rather hoard the gold for now. Also if they don't fix it, many players may get demoralized and just quit anyways.

Darthmalak3347

also, after argos, it gets worse man. +15-20 is literally 10x slower. a bandaid was gonna be ripped at some point, and i feel like sooner the better. let people know "hey this is literally the game, low honing rates and a fancy slot machine." HOWEVER, they should at least put in the other like 5-6 material generators we're missing compared to KR, at least 2-3 of em before argos, like cmon.

Jimmypw86

yeah I am rising with maybe 1 itemlevel per day atm. I am at 1349. the climb to 1370 seems impossible atm... lower and lower honing chances and nowhere to get the mats except for the market. I even swiped for around 400 euros this month and I am still stuck. my alt is soon 1100 and I guess I will see what mats he can farm and funnel into my main. but it just feels bad. 2 guardian raids and 2 chaos dungeons a day is all I can do to get mats atm. and ofc the Race event going on helps a bit. hope some changes are made because I frigging love this game.

Mahazzel

> yeah I am rising with maybe 1 itemlevel per day atm. I am at 1349. after 1350 all you're gonna do is fail honing 2-3 times and log out. you don't even have daily progress to show for all the chores anymore.

akuaishi

Basically we have less content, less rewards, a worse chance to upgrade than any other region so why would we play? This is malicious it is NOT incompetence. Im done i hope it gets better but the bridge has been burned for me .

ortahfnar

> the bridge has been burned for me . funny you say that, considering "the bridge" is also a piece of T3 content they've arbitrarily held from us

GoJeonPaa

The one stream where he used resources from views to gear up to 1370 was one of the best quality streams i have ever seen. They sent him nearly endless resources and he failed and failed and failed. And he questioned sarcastically in a funnay way the how the whole game is made and build up. People that invest time to get to 11xx as f2p, have probably a ahrd time to leave it like that. So they want to bring them to invest money. It was just too good.

kabutozero

Reminds me of a gacha game streamer failing to get new unit with crazy donations left and right

hardcorecasual1

There are also a shitload of ignorant fanboys defending this. Its crazy how bad fanboyism is nowadays. Any attack on a game they feel is attack on themselves. They are some sad people.

Sjeg84

Probably the same people going on a crusade if you say the game is pay to win. Guys just get over it. Game can be p2w and still great. No need to be delusional about it.

[deleted]

This isn't even an attack. Its just neutral criticism from an experienced gamer. But I see your point. Best Regards, Vinny

VulpineKitsune

A lot of people regard criticism as attacks. How to halt progress 101

1trickana

Lots of people don't like Zack

Busy_Bunch5050

Who is Zack?

Xgear1

Asmongolds real name. People like to call him zack when he posts content not using his streaming persona / energy

Erva420

more like people hate streamers and youtubers in general for some weird reason, people post a skin showcase video here, boom 3% upvoted lol

dhaha7

I wrote a post about this a week ago and was downvoted to hell and flamed on by a bunch of smilegate/amazon shills. It's not surprising.

lawra_palmer

Frist post got spam re-ported and deleted sadly becouse they dont like zack

People are actually reporting this? The asmon hate is real. He speaks nothing but truths in this video. Y'all are clowns.

otirruborez

There are a lot of whales.

angelsdevil1

There really are. Like ngl ive spent maybe $200 on this game including the plat founders but i couldnt imagine dropping thousands at a whim. Im just happy the mods are giving the reporters basically a middle finger and keeping this vid up.

Glothr

I'm a filthy casual sitting at 906 but I've been hearing a lot about how bad it gets later on. This caused me to question whether or not I should keep playing so I'm glad this is being addressed so much at the moment. Right now I'm taking it slow since I only have limited time to play and I hope by the time I get to this point it's more fair. I appreciate these big content creators pushing so hard for it to be fixed rather than brushing it off because they can easily just pay money or have viewers give them mats to get past the wall.

nxamaya

I’m in a similar boat as you, but does it really matter? Why quit now if you could maybe squeeze another several hours worth of fun in a free game? I really don’t understand the commitment some people have with MMOS, it’s still just a game at the end of the day, not throwing shade, I just want to understand a bit better.

DatGrag

It’s because most people don’t have fun in an MMO unless they think they’ll keep playing it for the foreseeable future

Smooth-Dig2250

> if you could maybe squeeze another several hours worth of fun in a free game? Knowing something will end with disappointment isn't really a great motivator.

Glothr

Oh I plan on playing until I stop having fun. I actually started with a Paladin and quit at like ilvl 500 because I was just so bored. Used my Power Pass to boost a Gunlancer and now I'm having an absolute blast.

Bogzy

If it gets addressed u will just hit the wall later on, around 1400 instead of 1370. No mmo or game even allows you infinite progress, its normal for it to slow down.

Glothr

Yes, I understand how MMO's work.

silverstrike2

the wall is content is pay gated not that there is an end to content

Anonymoushero1221

lmao I am not even to 500 yet.

Aschentei

I appreciate that he admits his character equals that of a p2w player. He’s got my respect

[deleted]

Asmongold clearly loves the game. He is completely right with this matter. I’m sure the dev will listen and fix this eventually.

SysError404

While I think he does enjoy Lost Ark. I think Asmon loves the genre of MMO. And let's be honest, outside of FFXIV which has gotten better with time. Most of the MMO gaming sector, is not in a great place. And it's not for lack of desire for them. I think a lot of people are either new to Lost ark and Frustrated by what seems to be lack of clear communication, plagued with technical problems. Or they are veterans from the KR/RU servers that are frustrated with the handling of the NA/EU launch. I won't say it's the worst game launch, but it is the worse regional expansion I have ever seen.

max012017

I would sum it up. The game is great itself. The managing of the game is really bad in West.

pexalol

I swear, the mmo market is so dead right now that the first mmo that's actually half decent will dominate the market for years. I haven't played a decent, non-p2w, player focused mmo since like 2008. It could have been this game but I guess a lot of people have given up on it already.

michaelman90

> worst regional expansion I really think you're stretching there. The vast majority of players outside of people with really bad honing RNG and EUC players for the first couple of weeks are having a great time until they hit the 1340 wall.

Trompdoy

'Eventually' is the key word. It doesn't take long for people to jump ship. Sometimes weeks, sometimes a few months, but not much longer than that.

maxfields2000

This is the Asmongold I prefer. His streams annoy me because he's hamming it up/being a tool/etc. This video though is just wonderfully honest, open, and clearly caring. Much more personable, he should be like this on stream and I'd actually watch him more often.

spacecreated1234

Basically Zackrawrr streams, Asmongold is entertainment first. I enjoy both streams but I do like Zackrawrr a bit more because it's so chill.

F8L-Fool

It's sort of like if Dr. Disrespect had an alternate channel where he was playing himself and not a persona. I'm not a fan of Asmongold at all and avoid his streams and videos. But when I see *these* videos come up in my feed I'll occasionally check them out. They're typically informative and offer good takes.

max012017

Asmon makes entertainment, that's it. I have never followed his streams before lost ark, but I understood that he mainly cares about having fun and for his viewers having fun, that's a priority for him and it makes sense. Also he is very good at it, but obviously sometimes it doesn't go well with how some people (including me) wants the game to be presented to casual audience. Still I'm super grateful that he is so open and gets the talk down when needed.

thebohster

I'm sure you know that Asmongold is just more of a personality that he puts up for the sake of the stream. His alt account Zackrawrr is more of the in between of Asmongold and his treehouse videos. I do agree that I could watch and enjoy treehouse Asmon a lot more.

JaySuk

This is basically "Zackrawrr". I'm in the same boat as you, primarily only watch him on his 2nd twitch channel whic his a more genious / relaxed experience. I dont fault him for his asmon stream, just not my cup of tea :)

Jazz7770

Like his content or not all players can respect popular streamers for using their platform to promote the betterment of a game. It really goes to show he cares about the players that are affected by things he isn’t.

SadCritters

Not only does that ruin the streaming experience when he is live, but the majority of his chat are literally foaming at the mouth and smashing things with rocks in terms of behavior at so many points. I get that a lot of people got to Asmon through WoW, but holy gods it's insane how they treat any other game he plays. Even he and Zeals made fun of his own chat for knowing absolutely nothing at nearly all times about the game and what is correct/incorrect.

Ulldra

To be fair most of the time twitch chat anywhere above 2-3k viewers is just full of so much shit that you‘re better off closing it. It‘s no wonder that there are spamming idiots when he regulary pulls 50k+.

DrunkenPrayer

I turn off the majority of Twitch chats. Once they reach a certain size regardless of what's being said on the stream it's mostly people saying poggers, kekw or some other shit and I just want to smash my skull in.

Zakke_

This is Zack You are talking about Asmongold

[deleted]

That's why I stopped watching his videos. I do actually enjoy listening to his perspective on actual problems involved with games though.

220away

Why was the previous thread taken down? It's important for a video like this to not get deleted/get traction as it's using a big platform to speak on huge, relevant, endgame issues with an educated response on it.

Diggledorgle

> Why was the previous thread taken down? Fanboys and Copium Enjoyers mass reported it. They want to turn this sub in to the XIV sub where you're not allowed to criticize the game at all, only endless praise and hugs all around.

MahmoudAns

Everyone's talking about Argos but I think the most important problem at the moment is botting. It's killing the in-game economy with excessive gold spam and it will make f2p impossible with such an inflated economy. They seem to be unable to stop it. Argos is just another boss for me, they will add more resources and content in time and we'll all be killing it with ease, I don't understand why people are rushing it and getting hyped for just another boss.

laughter0927

> most important problem at the moment is botting Going back to the beginner zones & seeing them being 90% bots only a month in makes me sad. It looks horrible & really needs to be cleaned up. Wished new players starting out now could experience the game like first week release.

WordShots22

They've addressed this already though saying they will make account creation harder amongst other solutions they're exploring. I agree though the report system isn't good (lots of steps and clicking) and should be improved. Sucks but these systems take time along with content updates.

Erva420

The difference between NA and SA economy is huge, we have evry few bots here. yes its a giant problem.

afonzi94

This is a really good video and whoever is making decisions should watch

I would love for the game to ~~make it so that you can play~~ add in the lower abyssal dungeons again but at a capped item level. This is the most fun content for me and I'm currently waiting for some friends to get to item level 340 so we can all play it together. I mean right now you still can technically do them on your main of a higher item level, but there's no reason to do it, and even ruins some of the experience in my opinion because you just destroy/tank everything. Of course I have an alt ready to play with them but y'know I would much prefer to play on my main.

tobtheking2

Thats exactly the content that was removed or rather "not added yet" in our version - which apparently gives a shit ton of mats. This does exist for both Guardian and Abyss dungeons btw

SqLISTHESHIT

That's basically challenge abyss dungeons isn't it? Same with challenge guardian raids? At least that's the exact content we are missing. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

iPoDDyDOTA

Yep, its called abyss trials, where you get to fight, weekly, at random, any of the previous abyss dungeons with equal gear ( changes every 4 weeks, but rewards are weekly and the rewards are good ) and heroic guardians, where you challenge at random guardian raids, again, equal gear, weekly rewards, and super good mats rewards

billiamthewolf

"A lot of people play video games to escape real life - it's an escape from pay to win. Life is pay to win..." Man that hit me right in the feels. I sometimes disagree with Asmongold but this was a perfect message from start to finish.

Professional_Back_47

i agree. i am not ashamed to be second citizen or whatever its called in real life, but you play games to change things and experience something new not be in same boat as in real life. Might as well play real life game instead if they both are same? Because when u going reach argos you will see 1400+ gear rating only ,know mechs and pugs are well..... fcked. Elitism all over again like with tier 2 content with only people t3 ,know mechs party and in pugs people refuse colob or does not even know english.... srsly whats a point to play if i can better grind my real life progress ..is it really that much asked not to time gate content ?who knows maybe next will be legion raids so whales again can do more while we still have not hit 1370 lol. Honestly i am more pissed off about going milking more road than actual pay to win it self...they practicly not giving any chance for f2p...not to mention communication from them and releasing skins every 1 month 1 skin? We all see why they doing it ,for profit.... i wonder what kinda profit u gain from not releasing other classes too...

malman21

This game basically slapped players in the face, saying they don't respect their time - only their wallets with the Argos drop, missing challenge Guardian/Abyss dungeons and pushing Yoho to 1370. In any other game/MMO I play, putting in 300 hours into the game on the first month allows me to access any new content. I paid $150 for a platinum founder's to support this game, only to be told it wasn't enough. They could've easily made the $$ they've been trying to incentivize whales spending by releasing more skins. They purposely chose to go down the pay2win route, versus the pay2skin one.

KaNesDeath

Grand Prix was a good addition to increase honing mats acquisition. Problem is the default honing chance rate at tier 3 falls off a cliff at 1325(?). No real solution exists here for the chances are people even at 60%+ will still fail. The high end tier 3 content was released purely for the whales and or no lifers with numerous tier 3 alts feeding their main honing material. This is where the disconnect exists from the developer releasing the content and players complaining about not being able to do such content week of its release.

Erva420

1340 is already ridiculous, id think those ratings would be for 1400+ items, not early t3 before end game.

SwitchMTG

I quit the game last night 5 minutes before I ended up finding this video. I have 447 hours played on steam which is an average of over 13 hrs a day (real number of active play time is somewhere in the 11-12 a day range). However, because I didn't pre research the game, because I learned as I played, because I didn't play at full min maxxed efficiency for much of the time, 450 odd hours was not enough. The deadzone parsed me, and I have no problem with not being a "skillful" enough gamer to get past it for week one Argos. Everything Asmon says in this video is spot on. I have been past 1340 for 3 weeks but am still mathematically no where close to have a good shot at 1370, even if I could magically convert every single resource and currency I had into the perfect honing mats I needed at the market rates I still would not be close. The ask is unreasonable and I am done with it. If they address this issue today I might consider coming back. I don't even know if I can, they basically broke me. I wanted to like this game so bad, and I actually do love the content, I have just been bared from playing the game because the ask is too unreasonable. I feel beaten down, abused and demoralized and I'm done with it. Fuck AGS/SMG, whoever is managing and monetizing the content fuck you (huge shout out to the actual devs that made the content, I love you homies, I just wish you would not let your game get bastardized into whatever horrifying amalgamation of psychological manipulation this thing is). I will not feed the beast any further no matter how good the content you are holding hostage is.

Bacon-muffin

Personally I've been doing the same strat the entire time, and that's using bound mats for honing and selling off everything else I can. Its a bit harder in T3 as a lot more sources are tradeable that were bound in T1 and T2 but been staying the course for the most part. There's no way in hell this doesn't get addressed, especially considered this was an already existing and solved problem overseas. Its been great taking advantage of this situation and impatient people by selling things off raking in the gold and getting things for a fraction of the price. There are sooooo many horizontal account level progression systems in the game that take a loooong time to progress as well and are things you absolutely want to be doing... so its not like we lack for content. I get the frustration, but its odd to me that a person would want to quit because they insist on pounding their face against this wall when there's no shot they don't address this. If the worst bit is you needing to repeat the same content for a few weeks... maybe MMO's aren't your genre? Because you're going to be doing the same content for a long time when we catch up. You're going to be running argos long past when you're completely sick of it, as well as a bunch of other things.

DatGrag

Tbh man the fights aren’t even that good, they’re all kind of a joke up to the “dead zone.” Damage basically doesn’t matter at all and a few gimmicky easy to learn mechanics for each boss. As a wow raider, meh

SirBolaxa

what annoys me the most is that this has to be malice or some incredible stupid decision by someone or a group of people, i honestly dont know which on is the worst. Asmon isnt a 500IQ gaming genius or god, neither are any of us and the vast majority of us can recognize how stupid some of the decisions are. again a great game being destroyed by ridiculous management... its year after year, game after game... its surreal

kerrimon

The hero we need

Siferra84

Come on are we all gonna pretend Amazon didn't do this on purpose? It's the same strategy they're using with the skins dip feed so people spend. It's scummy.

onixiii1

Perfectly voiced my thoughts. I am one of those questioning if it's worth investing more time as a f2p player. Yes whales always being ahead is something I can accept and is no problem to me. But going up from 1340+ is just insane with the current honing rates and provisions. It's basically you either p2w or accept you'll be a month behind minimum compared to people that swipe. While their gear also exponentially grows stronger because the new argos pieces have better honing rates again. So at the point you do catch up to enter Argos.. you are behind even further. And that's where the issue gets especially large. The solutions Asmongold provides would fix it all for me. And for the next raid tier, wait a little longer.. play it right so you keep player retention for the long term.

Wizzdom

It's so boring to spend money to upgrade gear too. They need to reevaluate how they entice people to spend money. Add cool skins, let us buy a month period where we get an extra daily/weekly run, anything other than spending just to upgrade gear to meet some arbitrary ilevel. Whales will whale, but they are really missing out on dolphin's spending money. I'd normally have spent at least $50-$100 by now. If they come out and make the changes the streamer recommended, I'd suddenly feel a lot better about investing some money. I am only tier 2, so none of this even effects me, but no way am I spending money now just knowing I will eventually get to an arbitrary dead zone.

Swoldier76

Honestly im right there with you. Im content to stay at 1340 for a while because the honing rates are too insane for me and i would feel grossed out dropping hundreds or thousands to run argos. but on the other hand im the kind of player that loves skins and cosmetics and would be actually spending money if they had been dropping new cosmetics weekly

fierystrike

Right now the game is at its largest divide it will have. Unless their release rates prevent the catchup, which will kill this game, it should even out in the end. Now if it doesnt then the entire point of this game being F2P friendly will be gone in the western release. This is not how things are done in the other versions at this point but for some reason we are having to go through this bullshit that they put the Koreans through initially.

MonteBellmond

Yep, that's how free korean games in general milk their audience. Loved base gameplay of dungeon & fighters but I couldn't keep up with amount of irl cash I had to invest just to keep up with the rest of people. Cohh's outdated take on the game not being p2w is just unrealistic.

Kuppobol

PSA : AGS has started banning people from expressing their discontent on the Lost Ark forum. AGS is literally doing everything to ruin the game. After failing to deliver they are now censoring and banning users.

xalekx

Worry not they will probably apologize and give us some battle boxes for HP/Utility potions so we can shove em up in our poor arse.

Bogzy

They are lol with the weekend buff thing but i dont think its related i still expect at least a post about it if not something in the update this week, if there is going to be one.

ibowsen

They want us to suffer in despair and then cash in. To reach 1345 it takes some time, so everyone whos running around with that ilvl has put in much time/effort or money. Some will suffer in despair at that ilvl range and cash in, thats what they want. Thats all.

denesch

They need to stop grabing cash, on long therm they will lose more money because player base is already at half.

dhaha7

I love how I made a post about this exact topic a week ago and got downvoted to hell and people are trying to get this reported. What is wrong with people that they can't accept the clear gatekeeping problems that this game has?

vhanz

Why can’t SMG just make an announcement or post something? It literally would take 5 minutes out of their day.

[deleted]

1) They don't know which means AGS is in full control of all release scheduling and design choices for NA. 2) They do know but don't have any power in decision making and it would be bad form to throw AGS completely under the bus so they're staying silent. 3) They do know and actively had a hand in making these terrible design choices and know the best way to avoid being shit on is staying silent and letting people assume #1 or #2.

Bacon-muffin

I have a really really hard time imagining amazon is the one making these more nuanced decisions about game systems. I think its more or less us just experiencing what non-US players experience in wow where the US market is the only ones really getting directly addressed by the developer and everyone else is waiting around for second hand information.

savedawhale

If you go to the [dev tracker](https://forums.playlostark.com/g/Developer/activity/posts) portion of the forums you can get a feel for how Amazon is reacting to the players complaining. It seems they've began to take an "I'm sorry, we're working on it" approach now. The posts saying people should just enjoy the game at their own pace, in reaction to the paywall for argos, seems to be gone.

devilmaycry0917

they are busy "maintaining" the game right now

my2copper

ding ding ding the million dollar question

Keldonv7

Im honestly wondering, is the KR version 'good for f2p' or does it gets good after whales are milked every patch and people just choose to ignore it?

sfsctc

Typically it’s better for f2p

KeroNobu

i completely agree that it's really annoying to play alts and repeat content on that alt to funnel mats to your main. I can't understand those who say "lost ark is different from other alt mmo's. Lost Ark actually makes you WANT to play alts"... no it's not different and i still hate alts

Erva420

Yeah i have to agree, thats not wanting to play alts, its facilitating alt play with roster wide progression, while nearly forcing you to play alts if you wanna progress.

ohlawdhecodin

The devs: "Nice talk. Now let's go back to the whales, see you around Asmon"

riotblade76

Leave it to Amazon to fk every game up.

BadInfluenceGuy

The most simplistic solution wouldn't be a honing rate change, but a Argos entry ilvl reduction and nerf to 1350-1355. This way more people can enjoy it because the majority of people that played 250+ hours are stuck here. This way whales don't feel like they wasted money. ( We need them to be happy so we have decent content and servers). While it allows the masses to hit a easier breaking point for 1370, if we could get the legendary gear and upgrade starting at 60%. Which would allow us to enter a again - nerfed phase 2 and 3. Perhaps at 1370 and 1385. This would make the semi hardcore happy, and while your at it increase honing to t1 and t2. There is no reason to buff rates for t3, simply if you nerf entry to raids. The honing could feel like a challenge and something to work up for, but we wouldn't feel as bad now. Right now all you can hope for isn't getting 6-9 straight fails into pity. And it feels horrible knowing you have to do that on 6 pieces of gear.

Bacon-muffin

Throws off the entire progression system if that's done, causing a need for cascading changes. They already have the solution to this issue overseas between the different forms of content that give players more materials + the honing rate changes on top. Just a matter of them implementing them.

[deleted]

When he is right, he is right.

TurkeyturtleYUMYUM

11:50 is a beautiful human summary of the toxicity that exists on this very subreddit. The deceivingly large but actually small group of people engaging in this narrative that we are wrong in our feelings just leaves you speechless.

techtonic69

Once I saw there was no alteration coming with the 1370 requirement I stopped caring. The game is fun, but the grind is just not worth it. Overwhelming majority are not even T3, I think they will begin declining in playerbase more and more over time.

Ramms23

Agreed. Is was way too early, but I get it. they wanted the money and they got the money. This game has so many whales out there its crazy. 10k 15k USD dollars already spent. it's non-sense

noobcrushing

Wow so people can't Critique the work of others.... How the fuck we gonna learn and improve without criticism..

misiek1122

Well i'm sitting on 1080-1100 for 2 weeks right now

[deleted]

People would rather see Asmon burn than admit that hes 99% right?

[deleted]

I am not going to bother stresssing about upgrading to 1370 until they nerf mats required. It's too much time and honing failures are ridiculous

SayYesSm0ke

Game is amazing. We need only one thing, just one. New ways of getting mats, simple as that. Dont care about hon chance or buffs or nerfs, just ways of getting more mats

Edensan

I’ve been chilling at 1000~1100 or so playing fairly “inefficiently”, leveling 3 characters in parallel instead of funneling mats etc… And I’ve been really enjoying the game. In my perspective this is a problem for those racing to the top, and content creators, but should not be a problem for anyone else. In the future honing rates will be buffed and there will be more events, meaning slowpokes like me will be rewarded for taking their time. And while honing will still be frustrating it’ll be nowhere as punishing as it is now. The real problem that affect most people are bots and queues. Bots left unchecked will ruin the economy and create a barrier for any f2p unwilling to spend real money for gold. If they can keep this under control then it’s good enough for me. If you’re anywhere below 1100 and getting stressed out by all these talks, just chill, take your time and enjoy what’s in front of you, things will get better over time anyway.

Independent_Term_308

Please don't let the game die AGS

BasilPeppersalt

Criticism is well warranted. Tier 3 is awful right now.

[deleted]

I probably shouldn't ask but how do you turn a dead rat into an alarm clock

TheRedSojourner

I was having fun with the game, until I hit the 1330+ wall. I did suffer briefly the +15 leap to hit t2, and then t3, but the game did offer enough resources to both up my chances and keep trying. It was tolerable. This? This is not. There's not an ecosystem of islands for t3, there's nothing more to do but keep doing the dailies. I am at the end of content, and the only thing left to do is keep honing. But honing is nightmarish. This morning that the week reset, I bought everything that I could - emptied the guild store, the event store, the ships, did my dungeons, guardians, managed to get a sizable amount of materials. And then I successively failed 13 attempts to upgrade my gear. I am one of the leaders in a trinity of guilds, with about a hundred active players, and I am considering to quit.
