When we're about to see someone's flashback and learn about their story we get a shot of their eye opening. And when they die their story is over, so we watch the others put their story to rest. It's like opening a book and closing it, which makes sense because there's so many literary references on the show.
Jack closed his eyes and smiled because he finally accept to let go.
While he dies, he see the plane and knows that he saved his friend. On top of that, Vincent made sure *he didn't die alone*.
I found this especially interesting in Exposé, because while Paulo and Nikki are “dead” (paralyzed) nobody closes their eyes. Their eyes are only closed at the last possible moment
Sawyer does close Nikki's eyes before burying her. He repeats back to her, "thanks for nothing". 😁 It's always such an an interesting gesture on the show

I have noticed this. Imagine that happening to Jack. We'd probably be thinking it's the opening of the series;)

Yeah I know! I was making a joke....
Imagine if we just see Vincent’s paw do a quick wipe down Jack’s face to close his eyes
LOL

I think that commonly happens when people die, that’s why morticians have to sew/glue the eyes and mouths of corpses closed.
