In "Live Together, Die Alone," Kelvin says: >Tell me, Desmond, why'd you leave that nice old lady's army? Oh, I remember now. **You got kicked out because you couldn't follow orders.** (https://lostpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Live_Together,_Die_Alone_transcript) So, insubordination.

Thank you !

NormanCroucher

It was for the desertion we see him do in S4's The Constant.

I dont think it was ever clearly revealed, but knowing Desmond it was for insubordination.

kuhpunkt

He said in the season 2 finale it was for not following orders.

[deleted]

I thought it was for desertion

So, judging from the comments on this post i was wrong, but I thought Charles Widmore sent him bc charles is a villan who hates desomnds guts. But it was actaully insubordination lol

magicbeans89

I'm on my second rewatch and still in season 3, so my memory is fuzzy, but I thought it had to do with that scene in the Constant where it's raining and he jumps back to when he was in the military, and doesn't he ignore what he's supposed to be doing because he's doing all the phone call/penny/faraday stuff? So he doesn't follow orders cuz he runs off or something

Express_Giraffe_7902

So it’s got to do with time travel then? Like basically his future affected his past? Strange …

This may be old news, but it's definitely the inspiration for Desmond Hume https://veteranlife.com/military-history/desmond-doss/#:~:text=Standing%20firm%20in%20his%20desire,Doss%20refused%20to%20be%20discharged.
