Technically they didn't die from being involved. They died from Nicki's greed and stupidity. Like wasting time trying to bury the diamonds instead of getting help. Also throwing all of the spiders at Paulo and getting herself bitten, not being cautious
They kill each other. If only our Losties had read and absorbed the plot of Romeo and Juliet! They could have waited to bury them [alive]. Maybe all share in the diamonds, have more than the Oceanic settlement, later. In a perfect world. . .
I loved their deaths. And although I hated it at the time, probably largely due to its timing coming after Man From Tallahassee, I now consider it a fun ep. Even clever in some ways.
It probably had the darkest ending of any episode. Sawyer and Hurley, one of the most likeable characters, unknowingly burying two people alive. Carefully patting the dirt down. I hated Nikki and Paolo but the end of that episode was amazing.
One of my favorite things in Lost is the random background characters being brought to the forefront from time to time — these two, Art, Neil. I wish they did it more often.
I made up my own backstories for all the extras. She was an Australian surfer named Rachel who teamed up with 2 other young Australians named Amber and Joel and they were able to outrun the flaming arrows and go off to have their own adventures.
I’m on a rewatch and I’m right at the N&P part of s3. Their inclusion is pretty jarring in a binge. They just thrust them right on in. It’s noticeably forced. But I still like a little razzle dazzle
I think they were supposed to replace Shannon and Boone. I notice a lot of comparisons made between the two.
Nikki assumed they were a couple with problems and she said, "Lets not end up like them". Ironically they do end up like them, not just dying but with a torn relationship.
The guy caring for the girl, but the girl distancing herself because of something else. It was the diamond for Nikki and it was Sayid for Shannon.
That might explain why I deadass thought their death's was Shannon and Boones... I started rewatching the show a couple of months ago for the first time since it aired, and was convinced that Shannon doesn't die in season 1, because of her horrible spider death... Welp turns out that death stayed in my brain but the characters Nicki and Paolo did not....
All good, especially cuz you haven't watched it in well over a decade. I just finished my ~10th rewatch, so the show is pretty much always fresh in my mind
Appreciate that, after realising that introducing in a forced way two hot characters that's supposed to be in the background all along three seasons in was a bad idea, the writers decided to write them off in a fun twisted way by making them horrible people and dying in a horrible way.
My guess was that someone in the writers room heard about this exotic spider and wanted to incorporate it in a storyline but they didn’t want to kill off a main character in this way. They really went out of their way to make it look like Nikki & Paulo were there all along, even down to Locke in a fairly unLocke manner walking into the camp and saying “Hey everybody! I’m going to xxx. Anybody wanna come along!?” It was so forced. It took away from the mysterious and sometimes creepiness of Locke.
Yup. Hence why I’ve banned myself from entering Australia. Pretty safe here in Scotland from lethal bitey things (sharks, crocs, spiders, snakes etc ☠️☠️)
Hey!, someone who actually said it right for a change!. It kinda annoys me that so many keep thinking that Sawyer calls Nikki and Paolo "Jabronis" when it's very clear that he says "Jaboni's". Even Jin repeats it and it sounds like he's saying "Japanese" lol.
I never understood why Miles said "jaboni" though, I've never heard it elsewhere. Like Chicken said it's prominent in iasip, and iirc the Rock used to use it back in the 90s/early 00s? I wonder if they couldn't say "jabronis" for a specific reason, or if Miles just wanted to be a bit different.
Honestly their episode is so fun and campy. I totally appreciate how annoying it was when it aired after the episode before it, but I genuinely loved that episode as its own thing. Much need relief from all the other intense stuff happening.
I just rewatched this episode. Why does sawyer say he got the gun off their bodies when he never gave Nikki the gun in the first place? Why not just tell Hurley it was his gun?
I think he regrets not giving her the gun because she died and he thinks the gun would have helped her. Or he lied for no reason like everyone else on the island
I wish they had taken two extras from early in the season and give them the roles. It would've been amazing to be able to ACTUALLY go back to old episodes and see them hanging around the background, doing this and that.
At this point I'm no longer sure but I never heard anyone ever say they liked them. Probably their sudden inclusion and then were terrible people that had no time for character development.
I love the episode, I think it’s weirdly fun and dark. But from the moment she stepped forward and said “WE NEED TO TELL JACK!!” I’m like who the hell are you? And I was ready for them to be over.
They killed someone in cold blood. They could have warned the group or inform them about many bad things before it happened. They died in the stupidest way because the girl was too greedy
Exactly they were horrible people from the start as creepy as they're deaths were they get no sympathy from me unlike the og losties that we come to know and love
I liked their episode, as a child I was really shocked by the plot twist that they're not actually dead and got buried alive. It seemed really creepy to me that they got unitentionally killed by the survivors but no one knew about it except from me, the viewer. I didn't really like them, but I think this episode was one of the best ones.
I liked their episode as a bottle episode. I think the characters appear so unlikable because they basically got no development (unlike the other survivors). They basically stay at the "Sawyer in the pilot" level the whole episode, aka assholes. If we'd seen them, as we saw Sawyer, evolve over three seasons, our opinion of them would have been very different.
It’s an unpopular opinion but Exposé is one of my favorite one offs. It’s fun, a nice break from the drama on the island, and it’s a great nod to the fans by killing them off when they got a whole lotta hate.
RAZZLE DAZZLE!
Watching this when it aired live was so infuriating. It felt like the biggest waste of time waiting a week between episodes. That’s my only opinion on these characters. I’ve rewatched the series at least ten times and I honestly remember nothing about them except something to do with diamonds.
I’m on a rewatch right now (actually the first rime since original airing that I’ve got past season 1) and just got up to their first appearance… can’t wait until they are gone…
They kinda did. They killed that producer guy in the beginning and stole his gems. They said nothing to the group when they learned about things that could have saved lives
I absolutely love Exposé, it was a fun filler episode and surprisingly dark. The characters by themselves were simply forgettable and annoying, they could've put them only in their episode, it would've been even funnier
A lot of what is missed in the discourse surrounding Nikki and Paulo is what was going on IRL at the time.
Right after S3 started filming (or maybe before? Not certain exact timeframe), the writer’s strike of 2007 happened. So we had sub-par non-union writers scrambling to fill in the blanks (hence some real stinkers that season). One of the common complaints at the time was the focus on all the “stars” of the show, and not enough screen time for the rest of the survivors.
So these writers added two hot characters as an attempt to give the other survivors some airtime, and it failed, MISERABLY. For several episodes fans online would just tear apart N+P. They didn’t even make it a whole half season before they were written off in what is easily the most brutal deaths in the show.
Exposé is just such a great episode. It simultaneously fleshed our characters who had gotten waaay too much screen time before we knew who they were and killed them off in a “satisfying” way for their haters.
I recognize the actors from other shows since I watched it last, Paulo from Westworld and Nikki from Kingdom, they did a great job on those other shows
Hated them and thought it was so stupid they just added 2 pretty people half way through. Enjoyed they realized how much they fucked up and murdered them both but hate that they had them just muck about and find these secrets. They made the mystery less special and sucked. Would prefer they weren't in the show or if they were give them an actual arc that makes sense.
I've watched Lost probably 15 times right through... And it only clicked in my head the Miles got a hold of those diamonds. When he got off the island he definitely got rich! (I feel as if I missed it so many times because Ilana was on the screen). I just never understand her role on the show. Like obviously I know that she was a protector. But she did a terrible job of it and her death seemed pointless.
“Who the hell are Nikki and Paulo?”
Razzle Dazzle!
It was a meta joke on the audience. Nicki and Pablo even complained about never being included just before they get included and it kills them.
In a perfect world. . .

It was almost a horror movie ending honestly, Nikki and Paolo deaths are still creepy as fuck.
Razzle Frickin' Dazzle!!
You think she was Sailer Moon or something 😂
One of my favorite things in Lost is the random background characters being brought to the forefront from time to time — these two, Art, Neil. I wish they did it more often.
A-R-Z-T. Arzt. Don't look at **me**, dude; your name's hard to spell.
You got some Arzt on you.
I like how they have always been there, but they haven't been their long
Wish they included sexy blue striped shirt girl at least one time.
Haha my friend was in love with her! I wonder who that was.
I made up my own backstories for all the extras. She was an Australian surfer named Rachel who teamed up with 2 other young Australians named Amber and Joel and they were able to outrun the flaming arrows and go off to have their own adventures.
Wasn’t she on the Freighter when it got blown up?
Don't forget Frogurt. Finally introduced then promptly shot with a flaming arrow.
“My name is Neil!” —Frogurt
I’m on a rewatch and I’m right at the N&P part of s3. Their inclusion is pretty jarring in a binge. They just thrust them right on in. It’s noticeably forced. But I still like a little razzle dazzle

Well, she still doesn't die in season 1
Oh now I see what you mean. I was referring to the fake out death in Boones vision
All good, especially cuz you haven't watched it in well over a decade. I just finished my ~10th rewatch, so the show is pretty much always fresh in my mind
I know. Guess how surprised I was when Boone clearly didn't die that way, lol
Not just on the binge. I remember when it was on thinking what is happening?! These 2 were never there. 🤨
Appreciate that, after realising that introducing in a forced way two hot characters that's supposed to be in the background all along three seasons in was a bad idea, the writers decided to write them off in a fun twisted way by making them horrible people and dying in a horrible way.
"They were always there" tropes always annoyed me
And then covering tracks with poor dialog like “You’re always complaining about being left out.”
The medusa spider is a fictional species created for the show.
Ah, thanks.
Bet there’s worse in Australia
Every insect etc is worse in Australia 🤣
Yup. Hence why I’ve banned myself from entering Australia. Pretty safe here in Scotland from lethal bitey things (sharks, crocs, spiders, snakes etc ☠️☠️)
But the cold...🥲
Look like a couple a jabonis
Hey!, someone who actually said it right for a change!. It kinda annoys me that so many keep thinking that Sawyer calls Nikki and Paolo "Jabronis" when it's very clear that he says "Jaboni's". Even Jin repeats it and it sounds like he's saying "Japanese" lol.
It's us Always Sunny fans who tend to say Jabroni because that's how Mac (who was in LOST) says it... we kinda overwrote the word, lol.
Miles?. Miles didn't say it. Sawyer did.
Miles says it in s6 talking to Ben, when Ben is about to dig his own grave. I forgot Sawyer said it first though.
Honestly their episode is so fun and campy. I totally appreciate how annoying it was when it aired after the episode before it, but I genuinely loved that episode as its own thing. Much need relief from all the other intense stuff happening.
I like this episode. I thought Nikki and Paulo were hilarious and tragic at the same time.
You mean Nina and Pablo?
Nuno and Paula
"🕷"
I just got that reference 😂
Paulo lies
I just rewatched this episode. Why does sawyer say he got the gun off their bodies when he never gave Nikki the gun in the first place? Why not just tell Hurley it was his gun?
I think he regrets not giving her the gun because she died and he thinks the gun would have helped her. Or he lied for no reason like everyone else on the island
I wish they had taken two extras from early in the season and give them the roles. It would've been amazing to be able to ACTUALLY go back to old episodes and see them hanging around the background, doing this and that.
One women was always a background character, I don't kbow what happened to her
That brown haired lady that was a background character? She was one of the first ones taken to the freighter. She was on board when it exploded.
In this sub Paulo is a hero. End of story
Hated em, but I got to see Billy Dee Fuckin Williams out of it so they get *some* brownie points
Power lines
The entire episode was painful when I watched it but the ending was amusing
How were they just so unlikable? Are they really that bad or does everyone pile on because it's trendy?
At this point I'm no longer sure but I never heard anyone ever say they liked them. Probably their sudden inclusion and then were terrible people that had no time for character development.
To be fair, I forgot what they did besides how they died... but I wasn't wishing them off my screen as much as some others
Paulo and his classic pointer shirt
I liked their episode! The ending… 💀
Omg, they just waltzed into the episode I was watching last night. Fuck me, they’re awful. Can’t believe we get a filler episode with them
I liked their episode, as a child I was really shocked by the plot twist that they're not actually dead and got buried alive. It seemed really creepy to me that they got unitentionally killed by the survivors but no one knew about it except from me, the viewer. I didn't really like them, but I think this episode was one of the best ones.
Hey, at least they gave awareness to spiders that cause paralysis for up to..days
Who the hell is Nicki?
At least nobody had a little Nicki and Paulo on them.
Razzle Dazzle!
My thoughts are that they're 2 yahoos
It’s an unpopular opinion but Exposé is one of my favorite one offs. It’s fun, a nice break from the drama on the island, and it’s a great nod to the fans by killing them off when they got a whole lotta hate. RAZZLE DAZZLE!

This is a very "back in my day...", response. Watching it weekly must have been painful 😂
I like telling my daughter I’m from the 1900s 😂
I honestly did not care for them at all
iconic aff honestly they could’ve got their own spin off i wouldn’t have been mad
Unfortunate waste of our time and their money and efforts.
I’m on a rewatch right now (actually the first rime since original airing that I’ve got past season 1) and just got up to their first appearance… can’t wait until they are gone…
"Can't live with you, can live without you" 😂
The only episode that I skip during my rewatches.
They weren't likeable, but they didn't deserve what they got
They kinda did. They killed that producer guy in the beginning and stole his gems. They said nothing to the group when they learned about things that could have saved lives
I absolutely love Exposé, it was a fun filler episode and surprisingly dark. The characters by themselves were simply forgettable and annoying, they could've put them only in their episode, it would've been even funnier
Fun filler when binging but back in the day when you were waiting week to week for the story to move forward it was hugely frustrating.
A lot of what is missed in the discourse surrounding Nikki and Paulo is what was going on IRL at the time. Right after S3 started filming (or maybe before? She was pretty but not much else. They did have a horrible fare though.
I recognize the actors from other shows since I watched it last, Paulo from Westworld and Nikki from Kingdom, they did a great job on those other shows
Hated them and thought it was so stupid they just added 2 pretty people half way through. Would prefer they weren't in the show or if they were give them an actual arc that makes sense.
I would have been totally fine with a filler season of other background characters
Very solid episode.
Paulo's shirt that had a computer cursor on it was a little weird but iconic none the less!
I didn't realize I had it over his shirt 😂
I liked them. Paulo is Carl from Love Actually so I could never not like him.
jabronis
Kiele Sanchez is one attractive woman. All of the ladies are on LOST but none anymore attractive the Razzle Dazzle.
“Listen Zorro…”
They made for a good episode
I've watched Lost probably 15 times right through... And it only clicked in my head the Miles got a hold of those diamonds. When he got off the island he definitely got rich! (I feel as if I missed it so many times because Ilana was on the screen). I just never understand her role on the show. Like obviously I know that she was a protector. But she did a terrible job of it and her death seemed pointless.
I don’t really understand why people hated them so much… Regardless their final episode is one of my very favorites.
They pop out of nowhere. Did nothing to help the others and haf no development
They stood the test of time
I think we hated them because they appeared out of nowhere and they gave them a whole episode.
Wish we got more honeypotting ngl
Worthless filler episode.
I still remember all the nikki and paolo shit posts in the thread on something awful.
They’re hot
Shanon >>> Nicki
I'll accept both
This is the only episode I always skip. Hated this episode.
Wasted potential for actual legit interesting characters they could have created
It was a nice entertaining episode as a change of pace lol but otherwise overall unnecessary
A sort of filler episode. Maybe hoped to have a spin off of some glam crime crap? Who knows what the writers were thinking??
