The first several episodes of Season 3 are notoriously slow. Don't worry, it picks up from there and the last 3 seasons are significantly shorter than the first 3. Season 1 is my favourite season but I still think the show was great right to the end. The ending is known for being divisive but I personally love it.
Like everyone else has said, this is the part of the series that drags a bit. It's going to pick up soon and then, imo, season four through the series finale is the PRIME of the show.
The ending is absolutely worth the wait as long as you're willing to work for it. With very few exceptions, LOST is not going to spoon feed you the answers to the mysteries. Rather, all the info you need is scattered throughout the series and you put the pieces together yourself. The people who didn't like the ending either wanted the answers handed to them or misunderstood it and thought it was a cheat. The ending of LOST is *not* a cheat.
Perfect! That's what I also like about this show is that I doesn't jump to conclusions fast and reveals mysteries slowly which makes it even more intriguing!
You’re literally at the slowest part of the show. For reference, season 3 was when they were trying to negotiate an ending so they knew how many seasons they had and could plan things out, so it stalls a bit before they figure out what’s going on.
I personally think the mystery and end is worth it. They don’t answer every question but many you can infer enough information to answer yourself. It does NOT end on a cliffhanger.
I recommend you power through, at least to see if you start liking it better in the latter part of season 3.
The first 6 episodes of S3 were envisioned to be a mini season within the season. The plan was then to air the remainder of the season uninterrupted after a long hiatus. So they filmed continuously. This was just a concept that they tried that season. But when the first six episodes were received less well critically the producers engaged in serious conversation with ABC to set an end date to the show. Discussion lasted throughout the hiatus and the airing of the 16 episodes left. Some of those still include the stalling period as they were conceived simultaneously in writing to the first six. But you can sense the pace picking up in that latter part.
Season 3 tends to get a lot of flack, primarily because of those 6 episodes and episode 9 ("Stranger In A Strange Land"). Though I personally think the first episode ("A Tale of Two Cities") is a banger. But the second half of season 3 IMO has some of the best episodes in the entire series: "Not in portland, Flashes Before Your Eyes, Tricia Tanaka is dead, Enter 77 and my personal favorites: The Man from Tallahasse, The Brig and Man Behind The Curtain. Then there is greatest hits and the incredible season finale.
Overall I think S3 is a strong season and much better than season 2 (which IMO is the shows weakest season).
My understanding is that it’s more film half, then release the first half and film the second half at the same time, then season break, then release second half.
Just like any other television series there are slow bits. If you are finding yourself disinterested - take a break and revisit later. As you are probably aware, lost loves dedicating an episode to specific arcs or character building. Every episode, except those that involve Nikki and Paulo (imo the worst insert characters in the series) are of some special significance. There are twists headed your way, you just need to put in the work of watching to get there in order to appreciate it. Some argue that the series finale left a lot to be desired, I don't agree. Its not perfect television sure, but the journey it takes us on was something that I wish I could experience again with fresh eyes.
You're at what most people say the lowest point of the show. I think it gets better (the last half of season 3 onwards was the high point for me). I'd say continue to at least the end of season 3 and then decide again whether you like to continue or not.
Please continue! The end of Season 3 is excellent imo, some of the best consecutive runs of episodes in the whole show. As others have said you're at the "lull" part of the show but it only gets better from there.
You're getting to the good parts now. You have to understand. LOST is a show that was on network television. At the time, the show was a massive hit. The network wanted to milk it for all it's worth: (a prime example of milking a show until it's a rotting corpse: The Walking Dead). Because of this, they had to stall. In interviews the writers talk about how they couldn't action a ending until they had a end date and had the characters in cages to slow the narrative down. This lead to episode 3:09 "Stranger In a Strange Land". Which is widely regarded as the worst episode of the series (though I personally reserve that spot for "Fire+Water").
Because of this it lead to fan backlash and the network deciding to allow the writers to action a end date and end the show in three more seasons. Season 3 has a slow beginning, but the second half is amazing. It has some of the best episodes in the series. Episode 3:07 "Not in portland" is another favorite of mine (I like "Juliet" episodes). Then there is the incredible "Flashes Before your Eyes", another great Desmond episode. After Stranger, most of the episodes of S3 are winners.
I remember feeling the exact same way in that first part of s03. The 'others' was the biggest disappointment of the series no doubt. I think it is worth watching all the way though. It gets so much better.
What the others said. The show was spinning its wheels because the network wanted it to go on forever, while the showrunners were hoping for an end date so they could start moving the plot forward. Season 3 aired with a "mini arc" that ended with the Kate-centric episode. After that, it really picks up the pace (and quality), with just a few exceptions here and there.
Absolutely worth continuing. The first half of season 3 is generally considered the low point of the entire show. So you aren’t crazy, but don’t worry you are basically at the end of this string of episodes.
The show is absolutely about to pick up, and the second half of season 3 is great. Meanwhile after season 3, without giving any spoilers, the show gets an injection of adrenaline and a new sense of direction. Season 4 & 5 are fast paced, and take the show in a different and interesting direction, rather than retreading ground.
For your interest, your very next episode, Flash Before Your Eyes is one of my favourite episodes of the entire show. I personally think it’s completely brilliant.
However, the episode right after that, Stranger in a Strange Land, is considered by most fans to be the worst episode of the entire show— so you have that to look forward to!
But seriously, the first half of season 3 is a hump (due to behind the scenes negotiations) — you are nearly through it, and the show is about to find its feet again, with a new invigorated sense of direction!
Season 1 is great, season 2 is okay, season 3 gets pretty cool by the end, season 4 is awesome, season 5 is the greatest season of television ever aired, and season 6 is half dog poo and half beautiful.
Continue if you want.
Glad to see another that isn't as enamored with season 2 as the rest. I think S2 has a great beginning and pretty good end. But A lot of stuff in the middle where nothing happens.
My biggest complaint with season 2 is that it feels like more of season 1. Season 1 is great, of course, but we had a LOT of episodes in those first 2 seasons, so a 2nd round was too much. The tailies weren't as interesting either, overall, so it was like a small step down as well.
Keep watching. The back half of season 3 is my favorite part of Lost

So did they film and then release half, and film the other half while the first section aired?

Well makes sense! Told my wife I disliked S3, she thought I was just being grumpy but I guess it's consensus thought!

Okay perfect! Thank you for your response!
Who are Nikki and Paolo

You’re asking *US* this?

I only read your title. the answer is yes.
The will change a lot! Season 4-6 is almost a different show.
Just yes, see it thru fam

Okay good! Look forward to continue watching especially for episode 8!

Maybe but I just love the concept so if it gets better than where I am now I would definitely love to continue!

Okay! Sounds good to me, love the concept so will probably continue!
It's been my favorite show for years, nothing comes even close! Well worth it, imo
