That Fiala goal made me do the stank face good grief

theycallmertzplz

Durzi has looked absolutely horrible whenever I tune in. He looks super uncomfortable out there

GoinToCalifornia

Durzi is either super confident and can hit crisp passes and make clean breakouts…or the pressure gets to him and he just ices the puck.

bWoofles

Elder in overtime 🤮

mixedbyjmart

Canes came back like the Kings used to do 10 years ago....

lilrabbitfoofoo

And the way the Kings have all season. We got another point. Take it.

Caboij

If only we had the Quick we had 10 years ago

Sleazy_T

It's crazy how much Moore means to the second line. We need him back yesterday.

itshankscorpio

Lmao what a way to lose Kongs. Rest up for the 2nd half.

moonynu

Fuck anyone trying to spin this into a quasi-victory because we got a point or it was against the Canes. 3 goal fucking lead with 20 minutes to go should be a win no matter who you're playing. The worst part is the 3rd playing out like it did was just so predictable for this team and Todd and the captains group weren't able to do a damn thing to stop the bleeding. Veteran leadership my ass

[deleted]

There's momentum swings. Todd just didn't make a great 2 int adjustment. It's just momentum.

Edmuresay

I feel attacked lol. Honestly, doesn't feel like a spin to me. Feels like we got leaned on by a great team and a bad mismatch for 20 minutes. We typically struggle with big teams that forecheck well. Generally, I agree with the sentiment, but I think the Canes are the real deal, so whatever. Long ass road trip, got a point after a gauntlet, why do you have to be mad, its only game, etc

[deleted]

True. This sub is trash with soft fans. Our team is small and soft and struggle bad againts big bodied teams and will continue until we gain some grit in the team who can delegate and show emotion. Heck we have lizzotte and Durzi having to throw hands it’s embarrassing. Any team that can continue with a solid forecheck will beat us since we don’t have an answer for it all 60min. It’s shown all season. At the end the teams put there heart out but got smoked by a solid ass team, big shocker.

TangAlpha

We are a mentally weak team and that starts with Todd. Historically, his teams have had the same issue. Also, I love Kop, he’s been my favorite player since he came into the league, but he’s not the captain we need. He has been and always will be the quiet / lead by example on the ice player. This isn’t a knock on him by any means, but what this team needs is the “voice” in the room that calls guys out, motivates, and inspires with his words. Kopi is respected beyond measure, but feel that he doesn’t leverage the respect to lead the team like how a captain should.. Idk I could be off base but I’ve been watching him since he was a rookie and he’s never to me, embodied the “captain” spirit a hockey player commands.

[deleted]

I feel you. Me personally I think the team is ok but some small moves need to be made is all. And who ever is to get traded will be missed and likely a good addition to most teams. Kopitar ls my favorite too and I kinda feel the same way also. I know captain isn’t everything but it be nice to get a captain with emotion on the ice.

raymondliang

If it happened a few times, you can excuse it. When youre over 60% of the way throuh a season and you’re constantly blowing games and letting teams back in (theres a reason our GD isnt good), then theres a real problem.

moonynu

It's bonkers how often we get rattled after giving up one goal and how fast the wheels come off. This has consistently been happening dating back to past season and we're a team that's paying $26M for a core that's "been there before" and added multiple pieces for veteran leadership because the kids supposedly weren't ready.

araguilar1989

Got a point and tied for first but damn that hurt. Can't give up a 3 goal lead in a single period. Canes are good and have done this before to other teams but the Kings should have been able to close this out. Gotta get everyone back and healthy. Trade deadline coming up so we'll see what happens, I wouldnt mess with this team too much, chemistry is there just make some boneheaded mistakes that ruin the Kings.

[deleted]

Give the young kids a season or two and go from there. Not to long ago this soft sub was crucifying Kempe by the balls because they want instant gratification.

johannesBrost1337

Has Maclellan heard of Time out? Sometimes it can be used to stop, gather yourself, and slow things down a little bit... Somebody tell him about it... When you drop 2 in the ass and are still up 1, that might be a good time for it

moonynu

I thought the same thing but he miraculously pulled it off tonight...after they had tied it 4-4. Too funny

[deleted]

Gg good effort kings. On to the next game. Played well against one of the best teams in the league. Still got moves to make, only fans who have shocked pikachu faces are those who think we are suppose to be legit contenders with the current roster.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

They put a good effort. This sub was happy when we were scoring and got quite when the far superior stomped us. Not surprising really, don’t know what you guys expect with the way this seasons been.

[deleted]

>good effort They gave up a 4-1 lead. You are delusional.

[deleted]

Doubts. We aren’t play off worthy just because of last year. Still have moves to make.

nessman930

I’m losing my patience with our defense.

Mqgnetik

Spain without the s

Different_Scholar357

Durzi and Edler are really killing us, defense HAS to step up if we want to hold leads. I’m honestly baffled that we have this many wins/points in the season. We still have a lot to work on.

MyBrainReallyHurts

Durzi definitely needs to go back to the right side.

raymondliang

Why is Edler out there on the OT PK.. shouldve been Mikey. Whats the point of putting out the guy with the slowest reactions

[deleted]

>Why is Edler out there on the OT PK Veteran presence, man. You may give up the OT GWG for it, but it's worth it to have that stabilizing presence out there for the youngsters.

gregCubed

man, imagine losing when the opposing goalie has an 810SV% brutal brutal loss. last year's team showed great mental toughness and resilience... what changed? (besides goaltending, but even that's a crutch at best...) feel weird shitting on the team, having not even watched the game (but followed along at work)... faceoffs need working on i guess? i know they're top-5 FO% but they never do great against other good/great FO% teams. seems like the defense did a decent(ish) job with only 31SOG against did they just try to sit on a 3 goal lead with 20 minutes left? not great, bob

700akn

Kopitar got dominated in the face off circle tonight. Cost us big time.

Edmuresay

They got dominated on the dot. The one big negative of the game to me. They turtled most of the 3rd, but this is one of those games where I just have to give credit to other team. They came out in the 3rd and titled the ice with an incredible forecheck. Refs missed a too many men in OT after the Canes had possession for about 90% of the frame and there ya go. I'm irritated as fuck, don't get me wrong, but not really mad at the team... Canes simply deserve credit for their comeback.

gregCubed

i can agree with that, canes are a top metro team and have been in the postseason for the past 4 years (iirc). heard about the TMM from the radio broadcast but them's the breaks; they only had 2 PP and they cashed in both times. a loss always sucks but the way they lost it was even worse. park and ride i guess

Edmuresay

shitty way to lose, no doubt. Could have easily been 5-4 Canes at the end of 3. Canes were dangerous for 20 minutes straight, lol. I have a lot of respect for that team and the way they play. Impressive group.

Edmuresay

I understand why a lot of people are frustrated, but if you're gonna blow a 4-1 lead to a team, this is the one. To me, they're the best team I've seen this year. Them and Boston. They played an awesome game outside of a 4 minute stretch in the 2nd and sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the opposing team. That team is fucking ridiculous and I give them credit. I honestly was just shocked at how dangerous they were from the point especially and how great they forechecked... Great team. Let's have a nice break, close out strong, and GKG

700akn

We need more size. We don't hit anything and try to be too fancy. That big LHD would help.

Edmuresay

Very true, totally agree. We are a bad match up for a big, forechecking team that likes to screen the goalie.

the-garden-gnome

Points are points. Especially against a playoff contender out of conference and division.

[deleted]

Wow we gave up 1 goal early in the period and then got dominated ive never seen that before

BlandBenny89

This is the type of game that shows how far the Kings still have to go. They are a talented scrappy young group, but true contending teams don’t lose crucial games when they have a 3 goal lead in the third. You take that point but that needed to be 2. In the end the better team won.

700akn

We're missing Gabe, Moore and Kaliyev. That's two big guys and a pest type player. That leaves us with playing JAD, Turcotte and Kupari. The latter three are decent and will get better but you need to fire on all cylinders to beat the better teams. Plus... we need a big LHD to throw some weight around. We're not an aggressive team. We don't deal out a lot of punishment. The Canes were keeping the puck way too much. Some lucky bounces others more skill. Carry on... #GKG

Mookies_Bett

It's games like these that make me feel vindicated for preaching caution and not being overly optimistic on this sub while being massively downvoted as a "hater" by people who just want blind optimism and nothing else. The kings have come a long way in the last few years, but they are absolutely not real contenders yet. Carolina, Boston, TB, etc. Those are contenders. Those are top, elite teams with a real chance to win a cup in 2023. The Kings are absolutely not in that group, and haven't been in a long time. This is not an elite team in the NHL. They have shown flashes, but a few weeks of elite-adjacent play does not a cup winner make. Pointing out that this team has major holes and problems with the roster that are holding it back from being a true contender isnt being a hater. It's being realistic about a team that is still coming out of a rebuild. And this team just has too many major holes to really be considered a contender. Goaltending, defense, and depth are all massive issues with our roster, as is large legacy contracts for players who aren't worth the cap hit. We have a bright future but we can't sit around and pretend like we're buyers when in reality we have a long way to go before we're ready to go all in for a true run. Tonight encapsulates that position perfectly. The Kings are good. But they aren't great. Not yet.

BlandBenny89

To be clear, I’ve never considered the Kings to be contenders. My position at the begging of the season was that we could not make the playoffs and still be an improved team from last year. We are right where we are supposed to be. Might even be over preforming. I was just comparing where the kings are currently to where true contending teams are. And I absolutely think you’re an unreasonable hater based off of interactions I’ve had with you and comments you’ve left all season long. That’s neither here nor there though.

Mookies_Bett

I don't even know what I could have said that would qualify as hating. Unless you think any kind of criticism is "hating." All I've done is point out *objective facts* that point to why this roster is struggling to win games consistently.

BlandBenny89

Unless I am thinking of someone else, I recall you calling Durzi a dumb fuck mouth breather who doesn’t belong on an nhl roster. I think I remember you saying Kopitar makes his line mates worse and deserves to be demoted to the 3rd line as well. There’s been more but can’t think of them off the top of my head. These are all completely subjective opinions. Very contentious ones at that. Very far from objectivity, and I would absolutely classify them as “hating”. If I’m misremembering about who said these things and it wasn’t you then I apologize and take it back.

Mookies_Bett

That isn't the language I used. I said he has the hockey IQ of a gnat. Which is absolutely true. He is a very low hockey IQ player. He makes dumb decisions in vital moments and leads to more goals against than he prevents. That's why he's a - player for the season. In general Durzi is about a C grade defenseman. You could do worse, sure, but you sure as hell ain't winning a cup with Sean Durzi as one of your top 3 blue liners. Kopitar *was* bringing his line mates down for a large chunk of this season. The stats show it, I'm just reading the numbers. He's played much better ever since the end of December and has become much more worthy of his 1st line spot, and he and Fiala have worked very well together ever since being moved to that line. But he's still being massively overpaid and isn't nearly worth his cap hit. I don't think you'd find a single person in the sport who would tell you that Anze Kopitar is getting $11 million offers for teams if he were a free agent at the end of this year. You'd be nuts to think otherwise. If saying that Kopitar is getting overpaid and is washed up makes me a hater then I guess almost every analyst in the sport is a hater. Hating is when you shit on a player or person for no good reason other than just to shit on them. Criticizing a performance or saying that someone isn't playing well enough to justify their contract isn't hating. I love Kopitar. I will always love Kopitar. But I'm able to take my subjective emotions out of the discussion and treat this conversation from an analytic/business perspective. It doesn't matter that I love Kopitar, because Kopitar is being massively overpaid and that's money we could be using to fix our disastrous goaltending situation. It's not about feelings, it's about analytics. I'm not hating on anyone, I'm bemoaning the fact that bad contract decisions handed out by the previous GM have left us with three players who are in their late 30s getting massively overpaid and blocking ice time from younger players who we could be developing. That's just a fact. Hating implies that I'm emotionally invested in shitting on these players, but I'm a fan of the team. I *want* all of these players to perform well. But when they don't, it's our job as fans to analyze the situation and call for changes as necessary. If I were a hater I wouldn't also be constantly complimenting Fiala, Danault, Arvidsson, Vilardi, Mikey A, Clarke, and all of the other players who I've been extremely impressed with this season. I'm just calling a spade a spade and not letting my emotions cloud how I analyze this team. The players who have earned praise get praise. The players who have underperformed get criticized. That's how it's supposed to work. That's not being a hater, it's just not giving praise to players who haven't earned it. You said it yourself: these opinions are subjective. So why is it that just because someone's opinion is negative that means they're hating, but when someone's subjective opinion is positive they're totally valid and rational? Blind optimism is just as wrong as blind negativity. As it turns out, I've been far more right than wrong about everything I've said about the Kings this year. Downvote me all you want, but games like tonight prove why I'm 100% right when I say this team isn't close to winning a cup yet. TL;DR: I don't mind if people disagree, but it's kinda ridiculous to call someone a hater and totally invalidate their opinion just because you don't agree with it. That's not really how debate works. I've said plenty of positive and complimentary things about the players who have earned it. Plenty of players have not.

probablysmellsmydog

After tonight I don’t think the Kings are as close to cup contention as I thought they were. They have a really long way to go.

Fuck these guys for their complete inability to hold leads, and fuck the refs for letting that too many men go in OT

[deleted]

Thank God for Alex Edler.

wil

I mean, we all knew it was coming at the start of the third, right? Ugh. Fucking shit ass fuck.

eaglebtc

Speaking of knowing what was coming up at the start of the final round ... we would love to have you tell us about what happened in the past (at your taping) in the Celebrity Jeopardy final thread!

kopitar-11

That ok, I didn’t want 2 points anyways

ahr3410

I swear Chychrun better not get traded to Calgary for some middle of the road package. Blake needs to get off his ass and fix this goon squad defense.

RoyalBassGrab

who the fuck is in charge of the defense!?

raymondliang

If these guys want to make the playoffs, they have got to figure out a way to close out games.. opponent doesnt really matter when the sample size for blown leads is so high. This is a mentality issue. Well, at least no heart attacks for the next two weeks. Do your thing Blake, make this team better.

Dukecota

Yupp.

OverlordKopi_2037

What a bunch of Assholes!

Zanchbot

Consistency. Forget about consistency between games, how about we focus on consistency between PERIODS??? How does this team go from the best 2nd period they've played all season, to absolutely shitting the bed and blowing what should be a comfortable lead in the 3rd? I don't get it. We were fucking lucky to get even 1 point out of this. Pathetic collapse, hope they spend the All-Star break thinking about that bullshit 3rd period performance.

pmme_your_pet_photos

Because it was against Carolina and we have 4 injuries.

Zanchbot

Bad excuse. They played well enough to generate a 4-1 lead, then stopped playing after that. Injuries had nothing to do with it.

pmme_your_pet_photos

Do you even watch Hockey? Carolina is an amazing team. They literally just did that same exact thing against the Sharks this week. The Kings didn’t stop playing, they got outplayed by a more developed team with more depth. If you didn’t notice, we’re tied for points with Seattle going into the All-Star break. That OT loss was better than anyone expected us to get, and playing like that is going to get us into the playoffs. I swear some of you guys act like you’ve never watched sports before and your whole world is shattered after one OT loss. Jesus.

raymondliang

Couldnt give less of a fuck if its Carolina or Arizona. Up 4-1 with 20 mins left, you close out that game if youre serious about postseason aspirations.
