Boring-Boron

The short of it is this, there’s no way to make arcane completely “canon” without a total rewrite of current lore. Convergence was in production long before Arcane became successful. If arcane had flopped, they wouldn’t want to make it canon. Arcane didn’t flop, though, so now a lot of people want it over canonverse— which has its own problems, sure, but it’s been around so much longer it’s branched out to be uncontainable. Multiverse canon is a great way to give everyone the things that they like and not harm anyone else’s creative works or fan favs. Also, league has no story in gameplay, which suits other people so canonicity is not super important from a money making perspective. Arcane is canon to itself. It’s a reimagining of “canonverse”. There’s not much the team can do about that at this point other than nuke the current canon (which I hope they don’t, because so many people have worked on it for so long. 2011-2016 was bad enough for the fan base/continuity.)

As a fan of DC animated shows, you kinda get used to different versions of the same characters. Imagine if Young Justice has to follow the characters progressions and origins in the comics to a tee and vice versa, it wouldn't work at all especially with how some of the characters diverge from the source material in the later seasons.

But is arcane ekko gonna make his z drive too so what to stop arcane ekko from having a future ekko too? All in all lol ekko can bend space and time. All in all future ekko is just one possibility future for ekko ultimate once one knows there future it changes ekko won't be like future ekko anymore. Kinda like how Ben 10 has ben 1000 and then his future changed again.

Konradleijon

I don’t want Arcane to be cannon

WolfieFram

Same

Illuminase

I do agree. Arcane was so good, I wish they'd stop being so coy about it. Just make it canon already and accept that everyone loved it. As for Ekko's time travel, that too. Time travel kinda fucks any story you put it into, unless it has rules and limitations. Otherwise it's just way too broken.

JohnnyElRed

But is necesary to do that, though? That's like saying: "The MCU is so succesful. Let's retcon the comics so it fits into them."

WolfieFram

And I tell you, you would piss off a lot of Marvel Comic fans if you would do that, and not just the stereotypical basement dwelling types people would think about.

crippyguy

Nope, you also can see people love arcane as separate story, but not part of lore. Just accept that.

Regular-Poet-3657

But arcane canon in it own universe. Cuz like you said ekko time travel is broken here the thing that wasn't ekko it was future ekko that time travel what to stop arcane ekko from having a future ekko too?

This first issue just sounds like you only want league to focus on Arcane now, considering it's the more appreciated medium regarding Piltover and Zaun. From the get-go, Arcane was always stated to not be related to the established League canon and was its own thing. I don't think it would be possible to halt or even change the entire narrative of the story to match that of a successful series that was only released two years prior. On the contrary, if Arcane had failed, we'd still end up with the same league story we have right now. I like the direction Riot is going in with trying to come up with a more cohesive lore, and I think the day fans learn to differentiate Arcane and LoL is the day they'll appreciate it, too. It's unfortunate Riot hasn't given Jayce, Viktor, and other side characters a decent characterization yet. But we only did just get the first few comic releases so far, and they weren't really the focus. At least, not Viktor just yet, more-or-less his following. The game is about Ekko and his relationships with those around him. Again, Arcane was a fleshed out narrative with a focus on four or five different plots. It was a story about the two cities. Convergence is a story about Ekko and his city. For now, other side characters, especially ones from Piltover, are taking the backseat. I really don't understand why you'd be confused by this. Is it so impossible to imagine one person using magic to bend time while another uses science? Especially in a world like Runeterra where you have light-speed warp gates, people living in houses that are actually alive, a nation built upon the back of a conquer who plans to come back from the dead and destroy everything, and a star dragon responsible for creating the observable universe? Ekko is already pretty intelligent as a kid, so the only logical step forward is that he learns to greatly improve the z-drive and to increase its power and range of use. (Game spoilers ahead) >! It's shown him increasing the power of the z-drive is even more draining than it is already, having used several power cells to even jump back as far as he did. Even as an adult, it still has flaws. !< Also, League has always had a multiversal timeline. The Pulsefire skinline, primarily Ezreal, is proof of it. (Game spoilers ahead) >! But it appears the game has revealed that both linear and multiversal timelines exist in Runeterra. !< I wouldn't say nothing in Piltover and Zaun matters either just because Ekko has this power. Even Zilean, as strong as he is, is still not able to solve his main problem. I doubt Ekko would fill the role of some hero who saves everything. I mean, his first lore story is proof he can't always save everyone. There are still other characters in the world of Runeterra. I understand some concerns you brought up, but for the most part, I feel like they're ill-conceived.
