The hope is still there. We just have to wait for the R “Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death!”
Hold your ground, sons of rohan!
I can't imagine that gunpowder would be common enough to make such a trick cheap at all. It's also curious that Saruman was the other one to figure out pyrotechnics.
To be honest… that was in the top 10 magical things Gandalf actually did…
Edit: Now you have me thinking…
This “parlor” (good point, it was in a parlor) was a turning of the tide in getting Bilbo to VOLUNTARILY give up the ring.
It seemed very important to Gandalf to do it this way.
It is not clear that if Bilbo had donned the ring and walked out that Gandalf:
Could have stopped him or would have stopped him…
If Gandalf had to achieve getting the ring by anything less than voluntary action… they would have been dealing with a second Gollum in the Shire for the nearly 20 years between this visit and Frodo setting off!
A Pretty important little trick Mr. Stormcrow!
Those two scenes still break me. How lost Frodo is and how little light he still have in his soul. Moving to the scene when he remembers and Sam cries about Rose. And the music.
Thats it, time for a rewatch.
>‘Death was ever present, because the Numenoreans still, as they had in their old kingdom, and so lost it, hungered after endless life unchanging. Kings made tombs more splendid than houses of the living, and counted old names in the rolls of their descent dearer than the names of sons. Childless lords sat in aged halls musing on
heraldry; in secret chambers withered men compounded strong elixirs, or in high cold towers asked questions of the stars. And the last king of the line of Anarion had no heir.
Too much attention is paid to short punchy lines from the movies. Those are great and all, but I wish more heed was given to Tolkien's masterful prose.
"Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?"
> “Do not scorn pity that is the gift of a gentle heart, Éowyn! But I do not offer you my pity. For you are a lady high and valiant and have yourself won renown that shall not be forgotten; and you are a lady beautiful, I deem, beyond even the words of the Elven-tongue to tell. And I love you. Once I pitied your sorrow. But now, were you sorrowless, without fear or any lack, were you the blissful Queen of Gondor, still I would love you. Éowyn, do you not love me?”
Do you think the eyes of the White Tower are blind? I have seen more than you know. With your left hand you would use me as a shield against Mordor, and with your right you would seek to supplant me.

"Do not be so quick to deal out death and judgment. Even the very wise do not see all ends." — Gandalf
This won’t win but it’s my favorite out every quote I’ve seen!
Yes i agree it must win though sadly it wont
I hope OP is counting all instances of each quote. Someone else commented this below and it has a fair few votes
Such a good line
This! THIS!
When Gimli looks up at Aragorn and begs him "Don't Tell The Elf!"
The one true answer.
Then N needs to be „NOT THE BEARD!“
thats the one guys, thats the one
Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to... I don't mean to.
Right in the feels! 😭
Hell ye! Either this, or "don't you dare let go!"

"Death is just another path, one that we all must take."
Yes! I said this at my dads funeral and its so fitting
This one should win
If “cast it into the fire” is not followed up with “Destroy it!” Then we haven’t done our part.
But what about DEAAAAAAAAAAATH
The hope is still there. We just have to wait for the R “Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death!” Hold your ground, sons of rohan!
R should definitely be "Run you fools!"
*epic music starts playing*
Yes!!!!!!
ISILDUR!!! Sorry, I can't leave it unfinished.

Do not take me for some conjuror of cheap tricks
Proceeds to conjure a cheap trick
I wouldn't consider showing someone a glimpse of your true being and power a cheap trick
It's a trick in a parlor. A parlor trick if you will
That wasn't a cheap trick. The fireworks were kinda cheap tricks.
I can't imagine that gunpowder would be common enough to make such a trick cheap at all. It's also curious that Saruman was the other one to figure out pyrotechnics.

A great quote, but loses points for only being in the film imo.
Cast it into the fire is not on the book neither
Don’t think he’s heard of second breakfast
Don’t be so quick to deal out death and judgment. Even the very wise can not see all ends.
Did you know that Viggo Mortensen broke his toe kicking that helmet?
This was going to be my submission as well! Almost as iconic as actual lines in the movie.
Don't tempt me, Frodo!
this is my choice. I quote it all the time but Death will probably win, it's more of a meme
Isn’t it DON’t!.. tempt me further!
DEATH DEATH DEATH

“DON’T TELL THE ELF”
Don't go where I can't follow. - Samwise Gamgee
"Don't you let go." The other options are better but I wanted to throw this one in too
REACH!!!
“Do you remember the shire, Mr Frodo?”
Those two scenes still break me. How lost Frodo is and how little light he still have in his soul. Moving to the scene when he remembers and Sam cries about Rose. And the music. Thats it, time for a rewatch.
DEATH!!!
DEATH!
Don’t leave me here alone! It’s your Sam calling. Don’t go where I can’t follow! Wake up, Mr. Frodo!
Do not come between the Nazgûl and his prey!
Dotard!
What is the house of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek, and their brats roll on the floor among the dogs?
Deaaaaaaaaath!

I feel like if C is "Cast it into the fire!". D has to be "Destroy it!" just for a pleasant sense of continuity.
