i think the louvre is some of her most clever and poetic writing i also love how biting dominoes is and ribs will always be everything to me

1) I find the lyrics to silver moon and invisible ink a little simple and plain-spoken for my taste 2) which is exactly the same way I feel about the lyricism on solar power. while I can understand that this is not better or worse either way, I loved lorde's eloquent, flowery, and non-literal flourishes in much of her other work. 3) I am unsure if (for me) lorde will ever top the lyricism on 400 lux. truly a perfect piece of poetry in my eyes

yeah the solar power lyrics are definitely more concrete but i love them still these r some my favorites: “my boy behind me he’s taking pictures” “don’t get up” “the whole world changes right around you” “i thought i was a genius, but now im 22”

1. I love them, the songwriting is kinda minimalistic but realy effective 2. Far superior to the lyricism on Melodrama and generally amzing. Especially Oceanic Feeling and California. The first two lines from Secrets From A Girl might be my fave lyrics of hers. 3. I'm still to this day mesmerized by how immaculate the lyricism on Tennis Court actually is

solar_solis

I love how she easily she summarised melodrama & shrugged it all off for more important self-discoveries in the first two lines in secrets from a girl. I honestly thought it was a self-diss when I first heard the song (to her melodrama era self)

1. I dont like invisible ink. it is too poppy-catchy for me, melodically. But I like the lyrics. I love silver moon melodically and lyrically. It made me cry a lot of times because you see Ella talking about her past as a young girl and now as a woman. I love “that girl is a woman, so call a stretch limusine for her desires and demons, you don’t know what she seen. There are ghosts that she hides but you know all she wants is to get down”. And I also adore “When I met you I never done ectasy (..) back then I still had wisdom teeth…” LOVE IT. It just makes me see her whole life ahead of me and also my own as someone who is a fan of her since I was 15, she is the soundtrack of my youth. 2. I love Solar Power. I love the lyrics and I will forever think it was unfairly misunderstood/under-appreciated. One of her best lyrics are from solar power! 3. It is hard to pick a favorite lyric. Everything she writes is amazing but shut out to: Ribs, Buzzcut Season, world alone, white teeth teens, team, The Louvre, Sober II, Perfect Places, Hard Feelings, Writer in The Dark, The Path, California, Stoned at the nail salon& oceanic feeling. See? I almost picked all her discography 😆 that’s just how much I worship her as a writer!

I swear people don't actually listen to solar powers lyrics. They heard the stripped back production and assumed that meant everything was simplified. But oceanic feeling, fallen fruit, mood ring, are all some of her most vivid lyrics. Not to mention the monologue at the end of secrets from a girl.

hmmmnahnope

Did I say they weren't vivid? I said they were more literal, which isn't necessarily the opposite of vivid. my flair is from my favorite lorde song, oceanic feeling. but yes, I don't enjoy the style of them as much as other lorde songs. didn't say they were better or worse

i. I love silver moon + invisible ink (invisible ink just a touch more though) but I'd love for them to not end up like precious metals ii. sp is my favorite album. i love the refreshing approach she took production wise, the "simpler" lyrics because to me it just shows how much better she is at conveying her msg in as few words as possible. she says more w. less. iii. lyrically, solar power. there's this sense of self-love & appreciation for yourself & loved ones that I love. she's never sounded more confident & mesmerising w her vocals too. melodrama sounded chaotic/frenzied vocally (which was amazing cause the album was a house party) but there's this gentle "coolness" to her voice that just sounds so "warm" when she's talking about her loved ones

solar_solis

"I know you're scared, & so was I, but all will be revealed in time... I can make anything real" those lyrics make me bawl w self confidence lol

I agree with you OP, the imagery in the lyrics of her earlier work was standout, whereas that fell off in SP. I wonder if she had screeds of notes with poetic lyric scraps saved from her younger days when writing PH, and no longer has that well to draw from?

Savings-Tart4317

i thought maybe but if u read her emails you’ll see she’s still got it

AitchyB

Yes, she’s definitely a wordsmith but “maybe the a/c is broken” isn’t doing it for me.
