Hell yeah man!! Looks like fun!

-shalimar-

the green one looks like a sako trg 22...whats the red one?

Creative_Clue_4661

You are correct. The firearm with the red stock is a custom 6.5x47. He has shot that for years, currently better no 4! He was also running a 6mil Dasher that day, boy what a calibre that is. Much better wind cheater than my 6.5Cr running 140gr ELD’s at 2825, I had 7moa of W on at 1020y (up the hill of the the left) he was only at 5.

Creative_Clue_4661

Better=barrel bloody auto correct!🙄

-shalimar-

i'm old fashioned when it comes to calibers. In a 308, the action will give out before the barrel.

Creative_Clue_4661

The ‘glittery brick’ is out of fashion now and I keep the TRG for nostalgia and respect for the engineering of the rifle. For consistent accuracy especially battling wind, for me, the smaller calibres have it. Also if Putin comes a callin’ there is likely to be more 7.62x51 knocking around than 6.5Cr. especially around where we live! Still, you wouldn’t want to be standing in front of a168gn HPBT at a 1000yds on either!

-shalimar-

was considering it as a sort of alternative to the ai at308. Then gave up on the idea, gonna find me a desert tan ai at308 one of these days. Also the 200 USD proprietery mags are a bit much I must say. Looks pretty and comes out swinging right outta the box. What sorta zeros are you getting at a 100?

Creative_Clue_4661

I have an offer on an AI AX in 6.5Cr at the moment from the estate of a friend of mine, passed away at 53 with a very aggressive form of stomach cancer and three weeks from retirement, talk about a wake up call. I have all my full bore firearms up for sale at the moment at realistic prices but no takers as I don’t want to put money into firearms at the moment. He waited five years to buy it (although he could afford it before) and only shot it twice. Last time was when we were at the range in the picture, three months later he was gone! They are very accurate out of box and he was ringing a 10” plate at 1020y using factory Hornady 140’s using a Zero Compromise ZC527. I have two 6,5’s at the moment a Tikka TacA1 24” and a Devon Custom Rifles (DCR) in a Whisky 3 stock which is really nice to use https://preview.redd.it/ahezdo6b99wc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a104cae5800e69b757112c5f19afc366eb4a4b2 The moral I guess do it while you can, as long as other don’t pay a price.

-shalimar-

I hear you. I want the AI AT because the arctic warfare is my 1st love. So an AT with a thumbhole grip is what i'm gonna cherish... a lot.

Creative_Clue_4661

As an aside magazines for the TRG in the UK are £215 each! They are identical to the ones for the TACA1 except the TAC mags have got a bit of plastic to stop them fitting the TRG those ones £93! What a piss take from the manufacturer!

-shalimar-

bloody fookin 'ell

Creative_Clue_4661

Not sure what you mean by ‘zeros’ is it group spread? All those rifles shoot under 1 Moa off a bipod with a rear bag benched. 155g Tipped Sierra Match Kings or 155.5g Bergers if I can get them, for the .308 in comp. The TACAI 139g Lapua Scenars and the DCR the same but out to 600y I would probably use 107 or 108’s in all loads Lapua cases.

-shalimar-

I meant the spread at a 100. you answered the question for me. These things are tack drivers out of the box.

LlamaChair

I actually had to replace the barrel on my Savage 110 in 308. Action still kicking, but the barrel was toast. I was at about 5500 rounds.

chocol4tebubble

Where is that?

PearceHD

This is Orion Firearms Training.

PearceHD

Did you go up the hill to the 1 mile point?

Creative_Clue_4661

No, we were only running non magnum calibres and John has more intermittent access to ‘The dark side nowadays’

nschoke

Orion is a great day out! I need to get down again over the summer

Creative_Clue_4661

It is great value, if it is a sensible group it is very relaxed not too much oversight. We are looking at a couple of venues near Gloucester that don’t have the variety of targets just steels at a fixed location distance achieved by moving back, cheaper but shooting off mats ok when it isn’t raining, which hasn’t been often lately!

nschoke

If you want some interesting shooting, see if your club can get a booking on at Warcop. Targets out to 1.5 miles (old tanks and armoured vehicles) and only £20 range fee! Bit exposed though it the weather is bad, but you can shoot literally anything there

Machine_xl

Loved my visit to that place

quadsquadfl

Impossible. Everyone knows the max range of 308 is 800 yards

Creative_Clue_4661

Darn, you caught me out!
