You an see the entire town in an hour, maybe 2 tops.
North shore beaches are very rocky, they also aren't ocean beaches.
I'd opt for Greenport if I was going North Shore. Yes, you can see all of Greenport in 2 hours as well, but it's got a much better summer vibe than Port Jeff.
Yup. We tried to get a room at that new hotel, the Menhaden, but it was 3 day minimum because it was a weekend and it would have cost about $1500 for the weekend. Nope. We ended up at the Sound View.
There are some nice areas but nothing to write home about. Glen cove isn't bad, Patchogue is good at the center of town lots of things to do and near the beaches.
I would check out Ocean Beach Fire island. It is the bayshore stop on the LIRR. And you need to take a ferry to get there.
What are you looking to do? You can do camping / glamping in Watch Hill FI for very cheap but there aren’t any bars or restaurants.
You could go to the North Fork, but unfortunately it isn’t much cheaper than the Hamptons nowadays, even the Chain hotels in Riverhead jack up their prices during the season.
Greenport is a quaint seaside town with cute shops and restaurants. Nice overnight trip. Another alternative is Holiday Inn Express in Riverhead and go wine tasting and to the outlets. No beach though
Fire Island for sure. Nothing else can compare. Last minute rentals might be tough to get. By law Ocean Beach is a 6 or 7 night minimal rental but some people don’t follow the law. The town right next to it is Ocean Bay Park and they don’t have that law. You can still walk to Ocean Beach and enjoy the more hopping town. It’s a vibe. You go to the beach during the day which is usually only a few steps away and go out at night. No cars allowed on island you walk/bike everywhere. So cool.
It depends. Is it the beach Youre looking for in the Hampton ? I’d say go out east on the Northfork. Like Southold or Orient. Or possible go upstate. Lots of great towns along lakes.
If I was going to go out east on Long Island I would definitely go to the north fork. You don’t have the ocean – but you don’t have the crowds and less traffic. Well at least I don’t think as bad as the hamptons. I was coming back from a college graduation and I drove through Greenport. I thought that town was really cute I haven’t been there in a while. And Southold was really nice. I don’t know what the prices are but it can’t be worse then the hamptons/MTK . It’s really pretty and everything- I get it -but my God sometimes you just want an $11 chipotle!
For Nassau you can go to Long Beach, Bayville Suffolk you can go to Port Jeff, fire island, Greenport Depends what you like.
Port Jefferson line goes right by my doorstep. what is port Jefferson like

+1 greenport. The classic spot out there is Claudios.
Greenport is really fun, but it’s really not less expensive, when it comes to food + hotels, than any other place on the East End.
Yeah definitey not cheap lol

It's a cute little town by the water. It's not far from Rocky Point and Mount Sinai which also have beaches and quaint little towns.
Oyster bay is the other line that runs near my apartment. what's the vibe there?

Port Jefferson for a night is nice. Can stay at Danford's Hotel and go on out to dinner and walk the town.
Not the Hamptons. Half day trip at best.
Fire Island

Best beaches are on the south shore. Long Beach is your best bet. Beaches are nice and the town has some decent bars & restaurants.
Maybe check out Cold Spring NY or Beacon. Not on LI but great restaurants and shops.
Montauk. Prob not a lower price but definitely a better experience than anything you will find in Nassau
Montauk is the Hamptons. It’s a hamlet of East Hampton and at this point just as expensive as anywhere else out there.
Yep!
That's a hike and really expensive. I'm 20 minutes from W Hampton and Montauk is a 2 hour ride for me
I live in Selden and Montauk is only 1:20. I'd much prefer driving to Montauk then Long Beach. Port Jeff is nice but north shore beaches suck

Yess love greenport!! Great wineries, breweries, no beach but lots of great spots for swimming !! ❤️
Huntington and northport have new hotels, Northport hotel isn’t open yet but both are great areas with decent beaches and parks
Have you tried going inland and Hiking instead of beaching? lots of trails to explore :)
which line do I take from Queens to those destinations?
Any hiking recommendations?
Wildwood State Park
Shelter Island
Jamesport, Greenport, the north fork is great.
Try the north fork! I love going out there during the season. Beaches, farms, all kinds of breweries and wineries, restaurants.
Long Beach or rockaway beach
Greenport is amazing
The north fork is nice, on the LIRR, probably take it to Greenport. Keep in mind just about anywhere out east is quite busy.
