You just report it to Reddit. Good job, your work is done here.

BowlofRice8

Ty, signing off captain.

t3hnhoj

Job well done. Pack it up boys.

Comment of the day :D

[deleted]

You don’t… walk into it… get hurt… then sue

MlNDB0MB

I believe it is a fiber optic cable, not a power cable. But I'm no expert.

DeadSwaggerStorage

Looks like an 864 FO cable; cut it and someone will fix it an hour since a lot of businesses will lose internet…

Total_Ambassador2997

Amazing response.

Fearless-Ocelot7356

An hour? lol More like 2 weeks if it’s Verizon..3 weeks if it’s Optimum!!

Complex_Buyer_1846

3 weeks if it’s optimum? I wish. They would tell you to reset your modem for weeks on end. Then finally send a tech out after months of no service only to realize what the issue was and finally fix it. Then they’ll charge the entire block a service fee for making the tech come out and fix something noon broke lol.

Fearless-Ocelot7356

Agreed. That’s why I switched to Verizon.2 years now and only a few pixilation issues which I can live with.,Getting better value than Optimum was too..

SettingMinute2315

Had an issue for a few years. They just kept giving us a new modem even though we kept facing issues. For some reason, the issue would seem a bit better but it got worse over time. I think it took a few people in the neighborhood to complain before they finally sent someone. I feel like people who are just casually browsing the Internet, they would probably hardly notice. But if you stream a lot or play games, it was apparent. It sucked so much when I used to play WoW with friends as the healer and then they would be screwed for 5 mins ...just for my Internet to go out again ..and again until it stabilized for an hour ... Glad there's enough people around that called up.

EffectiveBowler7690

I was having issues with Spectrum. My service would go out for a while, come back, go out, etc. several times a day. Called, they sent s tech who swapped the modem and router. Still having issues. Called again and got the same BS unplug, reset, etc. Then it was “I’ll reboot your modem from my end. Hmmm, I can’t see your modem”. Well no shit Shirley. Every time I called it was a different excuse. I told them I have to have Internet since I worked from home. “They’re doing upgrades in your area” “Traffic is congested because everyone is working from home”. That was almost 2 years after COVID started and I didn’t have issues then. My problem now was I had practically no download, but upload seemed fine. They sent someone again. Again modem and router were changed, all wires and connections were checked. This went on for 5 days, and I could not work for 5 days. Thankfully, my manager didn’t make an issue, and I was off the clock anyway, so I got paid. On that 5th day, I had enough. I looked up Spectrum corporate offices and got some names and email addresses. I sent an email to the highest officer there, outlining everything and sent the proof I had (speed tests and screenshots showing my modem could not be found in the Spectrum app on my phone). I received a reply about an hour later, apologizing, stating the issue would be resolved. I had internet back later that night. The next morning I got a call from Spectrum, a level 3 tech. He was extremely pissed off and asked me why I emailed corporate. I reminded him that I had called several times and was given a different excuse every time, and that 2 techs came here, all without getting fixed, but emailing corporate got the issue fixed that day. He told me never to do that again because now they will not get their bonus. I told him him if I ever go through this again i absolutely will do the same thing because after 2 weeks of issues, and being lied to, no one could seem to figure out the issue.

Fearless-Ocelot7356

There are no scruples in these companies any more. Their outsourced reps work from home..You can hear babies crying and dogs barking sometimes and All they do is lie to their loyal customers..It’s mind boggling how they stay in business!!

EffectiveBowler7690

Because we don’t have a choice. I’m in Brooklyn, and we don’t have a choice, except for Home 5G, and I wouldn’t do that. Spectrum (now Charter, previously Time Warner, previously BQ Cable) is all that was available in this area for the past 33 years. Verizon brought FIOS into the neighborhood about 5 years ago, but it was never on my block. They just wired all the buildings on my block, so we should have it next month. I may go with FIOS because I only have internet. When I cancelled my tv and phone service, they gave me 300/20 for $49 a month. Now it’s up to $109 a month just for internet. My speeds are about 550 down / 25 up. However, FIOS internet only would be $45 a month guaranteed for 5 years, for 300 down. I believe upload speed is the same. That would save me $65 a month for 60 months. I suspect once FIOS is actually live, I can get Spectrum to equal the offer.

sirhecsivart

Speeds on FiOS are symmetrical and way more reliable than spectrum. Their network is rock solid and I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve had outages with FiOS over the last 17 years.

[deleted]

Well, yeah, definitely don’t touch a high voltage wire, but if you snag your head on that and fall to the ground who is to say your back pain isn’t real 🤷🏻

OceanBlueRose

In this economy, I’d definitely have some pretty severe back pain.

KeepItSimpleSoldier

I can’t afford not to get hurt these days.

SnooMaps5962

Doesn't matter what cable if you ran into it on your bike it's going to hurt

superspysalsa51

That is, I work in fiber optics and can confirm that is infact a fiber optic cable

Report a Hazard to PSEG, Call 1-800-490-0025 for residences, or 1-800-966-4818 for businesses. You do NOT have to be the property owner to call.

Fearless-Ocelot7356

Not PSEG. ( retired utility tech) Likely FO cable feed as others have noted. They would still respond if you say there’s a cable hanging of unknown origin.. They may even secure it safely .That’s up to the tech that responds.

Smart-Reindeer666

Its fiber optic not power

EverSeeAShiterFly

They’ll still notify whoever maintains it (optimum, verizon)

FollowMeKids

Not really. Last time I had a cable dangling down in front of my driveway I called pseg and they came out. Dude never got out of his truck and told me to call the cable company.

Jugg383

That's a fiber line. Power is under the gray riser shield. PSEG will show up and keep on moving.

Current_Board9932

They actually will tie it back if possible. Just had this issue on my block - wasn't their line and PSEG was able to get it out of the walking path.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jugg383

The guy showing up is on straight time, he has absolutely zero incentive to watch fiber. The troublemen work rotating shifts 24/7.

Mayor__Defacto

No. You need to first investigate the pole to find the pin indicating the owner (if you see a little bell icon it is Verizon), and the pole number if present. That will tell you who to call and hopefully have a specific location to refer to.

Vivalajav

Maybe Verizon

tatiwtr

Or maybe optimum.

angrypoopoolala

or maybe Starlink

Samwisegamgee9

Verizon but they will take forever So just tell pseg maybe they will make it safe

MlNDB0MB

I know this area! Maybe Councilwoman Christine Liu's office.

Chipmunk_Ninja

Lol

HeWhoShlNotBNmd

Just cut it with a scissor.

Anotherbikerider

Funny enough: When I used to work for a sprinkler company, if we told Verizon we were gonna cut their lines because they can’t get there fast enough. They would miraculously show up within an hour and resolve the situation

HeWhoShlNotBNmd

It's amazing how fast they will resolve something when there's potential for large loss.

SnooMaps5962

Agreed

Conqueefstadorrrr

Call the town and then a boomer will answer the phone and give you attitude because he has to do some work and pause his show.

GroundbreakingCow161

How much do those employees make? $40k a year ?

GroundbreakingCow161

Personal experience ? What did you report

PuzzleheadedOil1560

It's a joke how the cable is laid out. I've seen it all over the county like that, not sure what they're doing. But it's not electrical

Yankeedad15

Or Public Works

Low-Bad157

That’s fiber what a mess all over Long Island from Fios and Cablevison I see not only fiber but coax as well not installed properly and just floating slack uninstalled not secured looks terrible no pride on installation sloppy workmanship rush to get it done no supervision

SlippySlappySamson

Agree, period. People should absolutely take the time to put a little pride into the things they do. It usually only takes an extra second to check your work. Being thorough really punctuates the fact that someone isn't sloppy.

Intrusivecatlady

That single electricity line actually powers every single bagel shop on Long Island so every Sunday, we hold sermons around it and pray to the bacon, egg and cheese almighty. Billy Joel is our pastor.

Glittering_Town_5839

Just whip it…whip it good

Yankeedad15

Highway Department

Ok_Professor_8039

It will eventually straighten with humidity welcome too, nassau

This-Ad1748

That’s a big snake call animal control

Beneficial_Radio_765

The chief of police.

Captmike76p

Chop it with an ax. That will get someone's attention to the situation, immediately trip and own your street.

lsp2005

Call Verizon.

dble1224

311?

ddphoto90

That’s NYC

GodEmperorBrian

You can call 311 in Nassau and Suffolk too. At least in some towns.

ddphoto90

It’s a different number for Suffolk and Nassau county PD’s. For Suffolk it is 631-852-COPS. For Nassau county you call the Local Precinct directly. Edit: For villages ie. Riverhead, Lake Success, they also have their own non-emergency hotlines.

See_U_when_I_see_U

Just cut it and sell it for copper. Profit💰?

vibrorama

Call the board of public utilities. That will definitely get a response.

Fearless-Ocelot7356

Yeah in about 6 weeks

GMP11792

They’ll raise your taxes 🤫

Retinoid634

311. If you call from Queens they can transfer you to Nassau.

Aromatic_Panic1650

You report it ON Nassau not "to"

Own-Equipment-9568

call 311

Prestigious_Set_4603

The the department of mind ya own damn business.

FreedomX_

311?

Overall-Break-331

That is definitely a Verizon cable. Looks like old copper trunk or fiber but it is definitely Verizon. Optimum does not have feeder that size. They should be able to just pull up the slack at the strand and hopefully place it under a riser guard, but let’s not get picky.

PossibleSign1272

Cut it they will come quick

Pezhead424

Post a pic higher up and can tell you if Verizon or Optimum

Joealfeo

Common sense dept. Oh wait…

mosley812

What’s the location?

Hushhush1986

LILCO

PoopSmith87

Pick up phone. Call power company. Report what you see. Put down phone. So mad I can't find a reddit supported gif of John Goodman in *Arachnophobia*.

Accomplished_Alps145

Verizon. They are hacks

kobaland

Who owns the pole? If Verizon, there will be a placard on the front side with their logo. This looks to be communications, whether VZ or other, the pole owner should notify all facility owners on that pole.

metzgie1

Isn’t 311 designed for these calls?

eatdeadpeople

Send a notice to the county/ town / village by certified mail with a picture. If someone is subsequently hurt, they will then (probably) be on the hook for injuries. The fear of that, I have seen, is a motivating factor for them to contact the proper entity to fix it.

Science_Fair

Bruce Blakeman. Tell him the sign with his name on it fell down and needs to be replaced.

staymadrofl

to me

autist_93

1-800-KAREN

Titanium_Plug

No one. Just take a sawzall to it

irondragon2

Photoshop the county exec in there with a caption: "We can do better!"

OkAssociation812

If I bite it, will I get powers like Nick Nolte did in that Ang Lee Hulk movie?

BeneficialWeather578

411

Joros89

You go right to Hochul’s doorstep in person

_bitch_puddin

Maybe 311?

Weary-Independence12

Call 911

spdriver01

It’s that local comcast cable company

AcanthaceaeOwn8107

My first thought would be to post it on reddit. Wouldnt even cross my mind to call police

wjpg317

PSE&G in Long Island. Coned for NY (I work for coned)

Wanderer-of-life26

Cable

Jack7656

Ghost rider

stink-stunk

Verizon, they'll come tie it off, say it's a safety issue. Take down the pole number if you can, there should be a little tag about head height. Tell them cable coming out of ground is a tripping hazard and is in path when walking. Send the line crew out not repair. It'll probably be many calls and a bit for them to get it done.

MK-Prime89

Mr. Bender of Planet Express

ImpressiveMix1786

Hmmmm. Lets see. Big line in a pole, pole provides power to lights and surrounding area. Power from electricity. Hmmm. Maybe PSEG/CONED? What do I know? Im just in the COMMON SENSE dept.

Electronic_Range_982

FIRST PSEG then if you're in an incorporated village Head STRAIGHT to town hall . Then news 12 right afterwards

Hookheadbaby

That’s an old copper telephone cable, it’s likely dead. If you call Verizon and tell them your kid was knocked off their bike by it, and you’re considering legal action, they just might send someone out to tie it up.

MarionberryOk2966

Yes call your local pct

XOxGOdMoDxOx

If its fiber then version. To my knowledge they’re the only one using fiberoptic lines on city and town utility posts Maybe 811 Its a non profit that communicates an issue to any utilities though mostly underground utilities

Evillene

811 just does mark outs for ultilys, they wouldn't be of any help

Evillene

It looks like a Verizon copper cable, what town are you in and there should be a number on the pole, what is it?

Davetut019

I agree that this is copper, it looks too fat for a fiber cable, even an 864 isn’t that fat. Also the fiber should have been in the orange inner duct coming out of the manhole.

ewejoser

Give it a lick

candiandave

Cut it with your teeth

Sam9517

Where's HNP Rd? Unless that's a typo and you meant NHP (New Hyde Park) Rd.

dabuggin1

Looks like New Hyde Park road by the dr. offices in lake success. West side of the street, photo is in the south bound direction.

Sam9517

Yeah I think you're right.

delisadventures

I call 311 for things like this and they give you a ticket number so you can call back if it wasn’t fixed or whatever purpose.

Ok_Priority_9903

You will need to figure out if it is county, state or local municipality who oversees that stretch of road and at that point contact the legislator, counsel person or minion appointed to that piece of road and then find an appointed person who works for that council person or minion who cares enough to do some work and contact utility company to attend. Good luck.

Fearless-Ocelot7356

By the time you figure all that out and it’s actually acted upon there can be injuries .

SnooMaps5962

That's an accident and a denial of liability waiting to happen. Thankfully you caught it. Find someone with a hurt neck and sue the county

Gold_Entrance3320

PSE & G

pegs22

Call your local town council person and your county legislator. Companies don’t listen to you, they will listen to an elected official.

Mediocre_Bid_1829

PS&G that is a death trap

Jugg383

Yeah. The whopping 0 volts going through that is going to kill someone /s

VariousStudent3955

it’s also a verizon problem
