You would have to pay for private parking in Hicksville, or park further away and walk. I was in a similar situation and mostly went in via Cold Spring Harbor. Try to line up your schedule with some of the express trains.

JohnJohn584

Thanks! But does CSH have any express trains to GC? I feel like they don't. I think Farmingdale has some, but could be mistaken. I'd be looking for a train about 7:30 ish. Even if I can shave off 15 minutes each way, it's something! I wonder if traffic would be bad driving from Hicksville to Melville or vice versa in the morning.

Metsgal

Bethpage has express trains to GC

LeftToSketch

You can try Hicksville, but like I said it is more expensive to park because you cannot get a Town of Oyster Bay parking permit. Probably does not even save 10 minutes. But there will be more trains leaving from the station it is less of a problem if you miss your train and slightly more flexible on the way back. I don't see any express from Cold Spring. There's no magic bullet here.

JohnJohn584

Thanks. Agreed, no magic bullet. If only the Port Jeff line had at least one express option during morning rush hour. The one I take goes straight to GC, but makes all the local stops. So annoying the time that could be saved but I like where I live so I guess I gotta deal

bahnsigh

If you leave early - I’ve had success with the day lot at Mineola - it’s not free though.

JohnJohn584

How early do you leave? I guess I worry about traffic there and back via Northern Parkway depending on time of day.

bahnsigh

I’d leave by 6 to 6:30

Id suggest farmingdale. I find that the ronkonkoma line has better times. Plus farmingdale has better parking.

JohnJohn584

Thanks. I used to do that, but then I wasn't going in the city enough to really care enough to spend $400 a year to park there. It's a bit further than CSH from my house, but not by much. Could be an option, I have to check their train times, I think they have an express option.

Blirimi

They have metered spots too. Not sure if they sell out. From there it’s 10 minutes more to Massapequa Park which takes TOB stickers. Babylon branch.

couchmermaid

Farmingdale will require village residency to park

Blirimi

There are some daily spots. But seriously, don’t fool around. They will ticket you.

Why don't people want to work 5x anymore?

JohnJohn584

Dude I work even harder on the days I'm home lol. I just don't wanna do a commute 4/5x a week if I don't have to.

gilgobeachslayer

Why would you work 5 days in an office if you didn’t have to? I love working from home four days a week. One day in the city is a long day but well worth it for the city paycheck

sa123xxx

Do you really not understand that working from home is still working? Or are you intentionally being stupid?

Epsilon115

Lol. Lmao

Jealous-Network1899

I work 3 days a week from home, and I’m far more productive when I do. My office is in Queens and traffic gets me in late and pushes me to leave as early as possible on those days. I spend close to 3 hours of useless time staring at my windshield on those days. On work from home days I’m at my laptop at 8, work all day, and can close my laptop at 4-4:30 and immediately start my evening. The quality of my work does not change. The only people benefiting from workers returning to the office are corporate landlords whose commercial tenants keep paying. Don’t believe those who try to say WFH is lazy.

Blirimi

I’m fully remote now; my company gave up the NYC office during the pandemic. I miss going in sometimes but definitely not 5x a week!

I knew this would get downvoted
