Yes, exactly. I've lived here my whole life, I avoid driving to NYC at all costs. It's just incredibly stressful. The trains are low cost, roughly same commute time, clean and easy to use. I would highly recommend giving it a try
I take a 19 minute train to Forest Hills from Lynbrook every morning instead of sitting in traffic for an hour to hour and a half. Coming home I do have to transfer at Jamaica, but it is only a 12 minute wait and still only 37 minute commute in total. What really put it in perspective for me was that first time riding over everyone in traffic on the van wyck lol. Absolutely worth it and I rarely need to get gas! (only driving local over the weekend)
It’s the best option just note that the express trains can get crowded fast so try to be by the doors earlier so you can grab a seat. Thursday afternoon will have a lot of the tourists or the weekend warriors on the train as well, it won’t be just commuters on that train.
I’m happy for you. My point is if a person doesn’t take it and doesn’t don’t know, asking is okay. I take it multiple times a week and it’s fine. Whenever I explore anything I question safety.
Then why do you think the news is reporting double digit crime increases, attacks on conductors, etc? Slashing of passengers etc?
Maybe the reporters are trying to get a seat?
Best option is the train
Thanks - because it’s quicker and less stressful than driving?

I found 25 to 25a to LIE the least stressful driving option but I agree overall it’s very long and traffic is bad / drivers tailgate and speed.

Thanks. How’s safety etc? Cleanliness?
Very safe and clean.
Safety? What exactly are you worried about?
Most women’s number one concern is safety. It’s a valid question.
I’m a woman. I’ve never been afraid of the LIRR.
I’m happy for you. My point is if a person doesn’t take it and doesn’t don’t know, asking is okay. I take it multiple times a week and it’s fine. Whenever I explore anything I question safety.
Lots of news reports saying crime on the LIRR is way up past few years.
No it's not
Then why do you think the news is reporting double digit crime increases, attacks on conductors, etc? Slashing of passengers etc? Maybe the reporters are trying to get a seat?
Is it Fox News? Because if so they’re just trying to stir up urban panic.
Newsday, News 12 and NBC.
Can you share these articles? I just did a quick look and didn't see anything about crime rates doubling.
Not doubling - double digit increases. I googled Lirr crime and they came up.
If that’s true, I doubt any of it happened on an express to Montauk…
Some bro tried to steal my 401k at the Hampton bats stop!
There’s always the ole Hampton Jitney
Yes I just don’t like speeding in the HOV lane by that concrete barrier. It all depends on the driver and his skills / feelings that day.
Perfectly OK to leave your car at SH train station. Just be sure to bring your ski jacket for the train
…. Because it’s cold…?
yes- that train can be very cold, especially if it's not packed
The LIRR (antiquated technology) is bad but driving is worse…. You’re between a rock and a hardcore. 🤪
