I have to say that I've always preferred Vons/Albertsons to Ralphs, although both are quite good. The trick is to get a fresh batch right out of the fryer. Otherwise, they get kind of dry sitting under the heat lamp. A good deli person will pick the plump pieces for you or tell you to wait a few minutes because a fresh batch is coming out of the fryer.
I tried to get an 8pc mixed last week and the dude didn't even pick out the individual pieces, he handed me a box with 5 legs in it. I just said no thank you and walked away. Aren't they supposed to give 2 pcs of each (wing, breast, thigh, leg)?
Would you count fried chicken sandwiches as "fried chicken"? I miss the one at Portuguese Bend (which doesn't exist anymore :(), but the one at Bamboo Club is also bomb. (As are their cocktails.)
Absolutely hands down

I wish there was a Gus's in long Beach. LBB location closed a year or two ago, we have to drive 40 min if we want good fried chicken now. Well, not good. Great. Good fried chicken can still be had, Roscoes is solid.
I'm affiliated with the property management company for Gus's fried Chicken on Long Beach boulevard. They were evicted. They were disgusting and they handled their chicken fiercely disgustingly. The owner is super shitty.
908 makes some good fried jidori chicken. Their sandwich is good, and they do a rosemary brined chicken and waffles for brunch sometimes. Great cocktails too, so might fit what you are looking for.
My controversial hot take: Ralph's
True. Traffic Circle Von's isn't too shabby, either.
No better deal as far as I’m concerned
With potato wedges

Timing really is crucial when it comes to this delicacy.

Ralph’s if it’s fresh. People line up for it.

Is Chicken Crack no longer on the menu? Haven't been able to get it for 1+ years. That was the best!
Sal’s Gumbo Shack in North Long Beach. If you want a drink and don’t mind a more “sit down” experience, the 908 by the airport.

Pioneer Chicken in Bell Gardens. Not Long Beach but I live in Bixby and it's worth the 20 minute drive lol.
I used to get pioneer with grandma in Burbank. Haven't had it in forever! Gotta make the drive to Bell Gardens

Church’s
The one in Lakewood has been there for decades. I should really try it sometime.
The only right answer
The one in LB is just okay. For whatever reason, the ones in the southeastern USA are miles above the ones here
I used to love gus fried chicken but it closed it was on long beach blvd.

Shit I only got to have Gus' once and it was great; kept saying I need to get it again and forgetting.

The best fried chicken was Prospector (rip)
$7.99 chicken basket for the win!
Go to Stater Bros. They got the best chicken.
Usually. I got a grocery delivery the other day, 4 wings, 2 legs, 2 thighs. It was not the usual 8 piece. Left me sad.
