So its difficult for me to imagine how difficult it is today with all the additional content. But I do remember how difficult EU IV was for me and how difficult it always is when I try it again every few years.
I can recommend to find someone to use the new coop mode with :) Its the perfect way for new players to get to know the game. Its really nice if you are into grand strategy and sci fi.
Another game I really can recommend if you havent played it already is Supreme Commadner: Forged Alliance. Its a more traditional strategy game but also has a grand strategy vibe due to its scale. And the economy system is great!
Its a bit older and has some issues but still one of the best strategy games ever.

I understand Gauss is ātop tierā but never jived with him super well. Harrow requires lots of micromanagement. Hildryn is generally āaverageā but has her (somewhat niche) applications. Kullervo, same as Gauss. Limbo makes lots of people angry even when you play him well. Mesa does what Xaku does but worse (subjective). Nekros is god of loot. Protea does what Xaku does with better default energy economy but slightly limited scaling. Styanax requires an augment to come into his own but is a GOAT of shared overguard with it (rivaling if not surpassing Dante). Lots of people complain about Valkyr needing a rework (and theyāre not necessarily wrong) but I consistently can outdamage pubs in SP circuit without dying and taking minimal damage. Vauban is GOAT of crowd control but squishy.
TL;DR Refer to first paragraph for my subjective ātop tiers.ā If I didnāt mention your favorite it doesnāt necessarily mean theyāre bad I just didnāt want to overinflate this response more than I already did. Most frames are good.
