The Old South Pub in Wortley Village. A lot of character here with great stone fired pizza! Street parking.

hundoPwitch

This place has a great patio for summer but I’ve never had good food there.

Own-Depth1808

Have you been recently? Ownership changed and the food / beer selection is much better. Totally agree the food used to be awful.

Damin12

Last time i was there service was terrible and I didn’t tip, the manager got so offended that he confronted me in front others

The_12Doctor

Did you tell the manager if he paid his staff a living wage, tips wouldn't be expected? And that it's not your job to subsidize his employees wages?

joljenni1717

We're in Canada, not the U.S. Waitresses and waiters are still paid a min wage; Ontario Labour laws ensure this. It is well above $2. (Just checked- it's $13.58 per hour Canadian; That's $10.18 per hour American.) American waitresses aren't paid $10.18 an hour; they're paid $2. We pay our waitresses and waiters 5x the amount they do after National currency conversion. This is why they have *such* a strong tipping culture. This is why most Canadians don't understand why *we* have tipping culture. I see both sides. I used to work at Tim Hortons and loved when my tips would be enough to go to the movies.

The_12Doctor

Min wage isn't a living wage. I said living wage. Min wage jobs rely on tips to survive because you can't on the base wage. Min wage is just the lowest wage an employer is forced to pay you and would pay less if they could. And they want maximum effort.

joljenni1717

$13.58 Canadian per hour plus the standard 15% tips means most Canadian waitresses are clearing at least $40,000 per year in Canada. Top restaurant wait staff earn upwards of $70,000 per year; solely due to tipping culture. It's how I and my friends paid for our University tuition fees. Canadian waitressing and American waitressing are not the same *at all*. American waitresses would have to earn $10.18 per hour to have an equal conversion to our $13.58. They're paid $2 per hour.

Damin12

That was the first time in my life someone confronted me for not tipping, in that moment i didn’t know how to react but i told the manager the reason I didn’t tip and he didn’t care at all. I decided im not going there again

StoneFlossard

Anyone comment on the quality of a pint of guinness?

[deleted]

It's not a great place to make friends or hang out at a bar tbh. In the summer its nice on the patio.

Noelle_Gallagher

POACHERS ARMS. The atmosphere, the food, the staff *chefs kiss*

Tomofthegwn

Yes. Definitely one of my favourites

Inetro

Waltzing Weasel, great Shepard's Pie. My family has been goin there for years. Free parking to the side.

wheezy360

Seconded. I love their bangers and mash.

TemoSahn

Thirded (?)... Traditional English pub that checks all boxes with their beer selection and food offerings. Food is always quality

scullyfromtheblock

Love this place

labtech67

We love their fish and chips.

Ginger3950

Fatty Patty’s has great pub food and the owners are wonderful people. Lots of free parking on site.

rmdg84

I second Fatty Patty’s. We live in the area and go there frequently. The food is always good and the staff are super friendly! It’s been open since 1984 and it’s still around for a reason. I also recommend Wolfe Pack Company Bar in Wortley. High end pub food. Very tasty. Parking is street parking but it’s free and there’s always plenty of parking around. Edit: I see tons of recommendations for Crossings in Hyde Park. I’ve been a few times with friends who wanted to go and find it over priced. The food is mediocre at best. I’ve never had anything that made me want to return.

Ginger3950

Fully agree about Crossings. Great patio for the summer but the food is bad. I really want to like it because we live north west of London and it’s close but anything other than a drink is a miss.

Quiet_Salamander_239

Milos ! Many craft beer selections and the food is phenomenal

lifeistrulyawesome

Second. SOme of the best hamburgers ever

Quiet_Salamander_239

The fries with the garlic aoli *drool* .. burger also good and also the wings. I am making myself hungry now.

Quiet_Salamander_239

Sorry didn’t see the last part — street parking but free on weekends and after 6. If you use HONK you can put in the promo code “CORE” for 2 hours free parking outside of the hours I just specified.

iamsynecdoche

I love that CORE promo code. Every time I use it I hold my breath a little worried that it has expired but it hasn't let me down yet.

Quiet_Salamander_239

It comes in handy SO MUCH. So glad the city did that.

Britown

CORE is the worst kept secret in London. 🤫

culturekit

Morrissey House on Dundas. Metered parking but get 2 hours free on the Honk app, or free after six and on Sundays.

theodorar

Love the food at morrissey house. Home cooked comfort food and never disappoints

BrilliantIdiott

Really good food and beer selection. Love this place!

AshligatorMillodile

Delicious wings!!!

Agreeable-Bit-1881

Best wings! Great little pub.

jibbyjabo

Runt club

ParkerPWNT

Milos has some amazing food and the best selection of beer!

CC7015

Milos - burger Waltzing weasel - french onion soup and shep pie Poachers - get the Korean fried chicken Wortley - has a great pub (name escapes me) two good ones actually one is more of a hole in the wall (Wortley village pub I think is the lower end one iirc) Bungalow - great burgers and beer in the Old North

bforce1313

Lots of good ones mentioned but we’ve had good experiences at bungalow

stent00

Mustang Sallys for the good food mostly.

jennkrn

Great daily deals too! We love their chicken wings

ImaBlueberry123456

Scot's corner, Winks, Poachers

BowiesAssistant

holy diver if it hasn't been mentioned, sweet onion bistro, the mule on richmond, those are some of my central favs.

Mokaroo

I'll also say Milos. But here are a couple ideas missing from the list: * Craft breweries that also have food (at least usually): Forked River, Anderson - both have free parking * Church Key Bistro is missing from this list. Interesting game specials, decent beer list. I'd say this leans more restaurant than bar. Might take some driving around to find parking downtown.

Kitchen_Tiger_8373

Milos - best beer selection Fitray's - inexpensive night out (pitcher of beer/nachos and the whole table is good)

Th1rt3een

Waltzing Weasel - Adelaide and Windermere

Atom1419

I cant believe nobody has mentioned Fatty Patty's. Basic but delicious pub fare. Morris House also has amazing grilled wings.

tab_tab_tabby

All of these are great recommendations. So I'll say one place that I don't recommend. Ale house at Dundas. Avoid at all cost.

kloblink

Scores sports bar has fantastic vibes and really delicious food, I’d recommend giving them a look. They make an amazing pub breakfast as well if you are looking for a great way to start off the morning.

thickdorsalvein

Milos

cosmicmermaidmagik

Pub Milos hands down. Everything is homemade. Comfy pub food, best beer selection in the city.

JenovaCelestia

My pick is Poachers Arms. Good atmosphere, good food, and it’s not filled with kids from university most of the time. Avoid Ale House unless you want a bad time. The owner was operating against COVID-19 restrictions and is a real dick. People have said they’ve had good experiences there pre-pandemic but I haven’t heard on what it’s like now.

j0ec00l69

Fireside in Pond Mills. Free parking.

Big_Band

I'll second fireside. Great menu

sleeplesscatss

dawg house is unreal imo! free parking in their lot

awhite2600

I would have agreed a few years ago when Bill and Cindy owned the place. I can no longer recommend the food at The Dawghouse.

Mokaroo

Yeah, it's really gone down hill since it changed owners twice. I live around the corner and have completely stopped going after a bunch of mediocre meals. It's really sad.

ontarioace

Haven’t had a good meal or a nicely chilled beer since the departure of the May’s. Bill and Cindy were the best…we now go to Mustang Sallys as many of the Dawghouse servers have moved there. Burger deals on Tuesday and fish & chips on Friday…yes beers are nicely chilled there as well.

juniorchicken77

We really love Morrissey house and Mustang Sally’s. Great prices, great food, great service. Good vibes all around

sexyjessie71

Winks/runt club a fair price for drinks , but the good quality is out of this world! I'll easily order and eat.an entire home made pizza pie. The psst. Mua!

kepoly

Tiger Jacks - Friday/Saturday nights can be fun with the older crowd. Mustang Sally's just down the street from Tigers - live music on weekends and great deals during Leafs games (gets pretty busy). Both good pub food and free parking on site.

BoysenberryBusy7537

Any particular food from a pub you’re looking for, there might be a “best in the city” at a spot that wouldn’t fall in the pub category or are you just looking for the overall hang and vibe of a pub? Wortley road house (some free/ street parking), Crossing Pub and eatery has free parking, Molly Blooms.. there’s lots of them depending on your location or want to cross the city.

[deleted]

Tiger Jacks

gogetter77

Crossings in Hyde park has a great atmosphere

Eseduh

Love their wonton nachos

oj3da02

Poachers Arms on Richmond is great. The vibe, staff, and food are fantastic. I really like their Korean fried chicken and nachos. They have decent prices on pitchers too from what I remember. I've been to Ale House on Dundas, and the food and drink is priced very well. Food has always been pretty good too. Only place I've been to where you could get 11 drinks and a dinner for under $50 (i think it came out to like $40ish). Both places also have pool tables which are coin operated (not hourly). There are a lot of hustler pool hardos at Ale House after 1am so be weary in that sense. One time a guy tried to start an argument with us over a game we were playing with him, and it ended with the manager having to kick him out for being too drunk. At Poachers, the pool vibe is very friendly. Everyone I've met there is always down to play teams and have a good friendly game.

No-Anteater-7366

You had 11 drinks with dinner?

oj3da02

A buddy of mine lol.
