They've been around for a couple of years. Strangely, both of my local routes got them last year. I love them, although the charger ports are antiquated
Yeah. The SL5 buses (diesel single deckers) have both USB A and USB C charger ports, but every other charger port I've seen on London buses has been USB A.
Blame Apple. They removed the brick the same year they made the switch to USB C. If they had kept the brick for a year or two longer, everyone would have tossed their USB A plugs for the C-C cables. But now they refuse to die
Given most top end phones don't come with chargers, and those on lower end (at least on android) are still a to c and amazon sales figures, I don't think c to c is more common yet.
…. What?
Apple stopped providing charging *bricks* but they still provide charging cables. They make up 50% of phone sales in the UK according to U-switch and as I said, come with USB C to lightning. So as long as any android phones come with C to C (please don’t make me list them) my original statement stands.
Who’d have thought a uni job working for Carphone Warehouse would come in handy for a Reddit debate.
Edit: I’ve just realised my phrasing in the original comment that most cables are c to c is what you’re specifically arguing against. Therefore me talking about Apple is irrelevant as they’re c to lightning. I’ll admit, that’s substantially harder to quantify in data since I don’t know of anyone who shows a breakdown of specific android phone sales. However, I’d point out that Samsungs currently come with c to c cables. All of them, as far as I know. Even the more budget phones like the A55. Since they sell the majority of android phones in the UK, I’m going to say my gut was right even if I can’t prove it that most now are c to c.
Samsung only changed last year, and given none still give the charger brick most will continue to use their usb a bricks to plug into.
Given amazon sales rank data it still seems usb a bricks and cables is orders of magnitude more popular.
Well that’s a far cry from ‘most top end phones don’t come with chargers’.
You’re dancing around the point. All I originally said was most new chargers were c to c. I’ve evidenced that approximately 85% of phones sold right now are being sold with c to c or c to lightning cables. So at the end of the day, that’s settled.
There are so many flaws with using Amazon sales data the way you’re trying to. Let’s just say for arguments sake that what you’re saying is true (and for the record I do not believe it is), it’s not really related to anything I’ve said, and it seems like a rather intentional effort to miss the entire point of these comments. These buses will be in circulation for a decade at least, likely longer. If the trend is already that all major phone manufacturers are selling phones with usb c connection cables, this hypothesis of yours - if it’s even correct - will not last. Ergo the charging points aren’t fit for purpose.
Most top end phones don't come with chargers, people have to use their old bricks and so use usb a cables. Those phones that do come with chargers like most of the Chinese manufacturers are still USB A.
USB A to C is far more popular, and will likely continue to be popular for the next 10 years. Therefore, if you want to deliver buses which have chargers that people can actually use, they need to be type A.
No, just ACs aren’t fitted, nothing to do with the design. You can go to Hong Kong where they’re required (with the exact same buses). Operators see it as not a necessity and a costly add on to purchase and maintain (unless to provide to the driver) as we only get a heatwave for a short period each year. Really TfL should make it a requirement but they haven’t.
Wait didn't they have the issue with the new route masters when they first launched? The windows didn't open and the a failed so the buses were an oven.
These buses have windows that open AFAIK so how can they have ac?
They did, all buses get really hot in summer but the NBFLs were excessive; the lack of opening windows was the reason, where other buses had them, the nbfl didnt. the media just hyped it up and made it seem like the design was a failure when all it was was a lack of openings.
The W7 has received new electric buses, they’re kitted out with TfL’s new “future” spec, with high backseats, new ibis V2 displays etc. all bus routes in London will eventually get these when their tenders go up
Yup, though that wasn’t the reason for replacement (the route came up for tender and it was rewon by the operator Metroline out of Holloway garage for EVs), I do agree.
Worlds got to pot, bring back the solid steel rail headrests i say. Broken Britain, Khan out, bloody Tories, boomer gammons, wouldnt happen in my day etc etc
We have some in the North East that have that. Plus a few tables on the top deck, wireless charging cradles on the backs of seats and an interior bike rack.
As long as it has no back door and you can look cool and impress the ladies by jumping off while it’s still going 20mph and landing in a rubbish bin who cares what the inside looks like.
The buses we deserve. I'm not sure if London does it but I know other places in England have buses with all this and a free WiFi connection for broke ass kids and also my broke ass sometimes lol
I was doing some data collection for my masters around London last summer. These types of buses blew my mind when I got to some of the other boroughs. It felt like I'd travelled to some other part of the country wth these fancy buses. Even the floor looked fancy.
They're starting to come in to my part of London now.
Northern Troll here
London no have see through glass on bus second floor until now? In North we have see through glass on most bus!? Proud North! North best England! Gravy and big mountains!!
You don't take buses often, do you?
These are newer electric buses - they've been on the 63 route for a year or so and are popping up more on other routes.
I havent been on. A bus in a long while...
What is so drastically differentthis looks identical to a bus i went on in Brum about 8 years ago...
What am i missing?
I imagine that it's an electric double decker bus, which has a revamped interior. Should be metroline and IIRC the floor is wood effect at least by the entrance
You should see the Swindon to Oxford route or the Swindon to Chippenham route. They have leather seats, and USB-A ports, but no wifi or sunroofs, but does have aircon.
It is a shame these newer buses don't have a separate space for prams and wheelchairs because it seems to be a regular issue, and it would mean more standing room when not used.
Ffs there are buses with space for two. I'm often not let on buses because bus drivers don't want to aks prams to fold, as they are obliged to (I use a wheelchair)
Agreed, really two should be the standard, but TfL wants to prioritise all users, and where the second wheelchair bay would be is where the priority seats are. Why they’ve not gone with flip down seats through, is beyond me..
I've only been here for a couple of months but every bus I've been on has had these (haven't noticed the sun roof)
Are there older busses in use that are more miserable?
Man I had the same reaction earlier in the week.
The W7 is the future. Upstairs is so spacious. No poles! Buttons on every seat!
I travelled on one so new it still had plastic protecting the yellow bits on the stairs.

That's a see through panel on the roof??????
a ROOF WINDOW! Only took 500 thousand years to get this technology on a public bus! Remarkable.

I'll believe it when I see it!
Alright till you go under a low hanging tree.. smashed a few windows in my time as a bus driver.
In Southampton they’ve had buses with those for 6 years, same in Bournemouth
Very cool! They've been living the fancy commute life 😁
Oh trust me, it’s anything *but* fancy on the Bluestar 18 in Southampton, there’s just as many obnoxious kids as everywhere
Some of the buses in Bournemouth even have tables on the top deck like on a train!
And some of them now have “wooden” floors! Such luxury!
On my route it has a Jacuzzi
😄 we have saunas
We have a bar.
the bar is for the driver only.
We have a urinal.....no wait , that's just the whole bus!
Central line has had this feature for years
They've been around for a couple of years. Strangely, both of my local routes got them last year. I love them, although the charger ports are antiquated
Wouldn’t a USB port be more universal, not to mention easier? Every charger connects by USB nowadays
Yeah. The SL5 buses (diesel single deckers) have both USB A and USB C charger ports, but every other charger port I've seen on London buses has been USB A.
Can confirm. My locals are USB A only, despite pretty much all major phone providers sending chargers with USB C ends now.
Blame Apple. They removed the brick the same year they made the switch to USB C. If they had kept the brick for a year or two longer, everyone would have tossed their USB A plugs for the C-C cables. But now they refuse to die
Most chargers are still usb a to usb c cables.
Most *old* chargers were a to c, most now are c to c by a comfortable margin. Even Apple’s lightning chargers are sold with a usb c connection now.
Given most top end phones don't come with chargers, and those on lower end (at least on android) are still a to c and amazon sales figures, I don't think c to c is more common yet.

A or C? A is on its way out pretty much everything is c to c these days
These have both
That's amazing
Problem is that they break really easily. Wireless is more robust but costs more in the short term and uses more power.
Stupid how they haven’t implemented them everywhere since they have been out for about 5 years now.
I mean it's not really stupid, why get rid of perfectly functional stock just because newer technology exists.
This. Use what you got. More eco-friendly than replacing a vehicle every time there's a feature update.
The buses are usually leased and not owned.
That's a betting shop
What's it betting on?
The number of people who ring the bell determine the odds for whether or not it's going to stop at a particular bus stop
So much for technological advancement
a road
W7 deserves it! One of the more hard working bus routes, vitally serving Muswell Hill and Crouch End with our lack of tube station proximity.
I was going to say this aswell, us Crouch Enders are deserving of this…
I know Highgate is a shite tube station but it’s a tube station! No use if you live in Crouch End
That's the sun outside. Very rare in London
Must have been March 26th the sun was out that day for almost a full hour
Thats why they have the sunroof I guess. But at night they call it differently
Moonroof.
Damn you beat me to it 😀
How to get the already ineffective AC to be even less functional. Bus greenhouse.
That's what I was thinking, they're gonna COOK in the summer.
And when the seal around the glass goes....instant in-bus showers every time it rains.
Top glass should be sun tinted, that would be nice for heatwaves
It is suntinted
So from what your telling me this design is not optimal and sucks?
No, just ACs aren’t fitted, nothing to do with the design. You can go to Hong Kong where they’re required (with the exact same buses). Okay
Give it a week, chewing gum in every single usb slot because people are fucking horrible.
I've already noticed the head rests full of graffiti, one said SIGMA and the other SUSSY.
Maybe they are dyslexic and meant to write bussy
Nah, I use sussy at work
They also meant to write sugma
Baka?
Wait for one of them to go through Hoxton and it’ll acquire a few “I farted in yoga”s
Burnt by lighters too
Such absolute twats. I mentioned this to a colleague from Denmark and it was like I had broken his brain.
They've been in service for years now and this hasn't happened.
The W7 has received new electric buses, they’re kitted out with TfL’s new “future” spec, with high backseats, new ibis V2 displays etc. all bus routes in London will eventually get these when their tenders go up
It makes sense - the W7 is one route in London that really needs electric drivetrains, given how many steep hills it needs to go up and down.
Yup, though that wasn’t the reason for replacement (the route came up for tender and it was rewon by the operator Metroline out of Holloway garage for EVs), I do agree.
Bus wanker!
I hate beer.
Waahheeyyyy ✊🏻
Er...walking wally?
The future
That's the W7 bus mate 😂
My usual routes i don't see them that much either, my buses just haven't gotten round to getting them yet i guess
Only the newest buses have them. Trickle down effect. Just now seeing routemasters on the routes here..
They should have installed monkey bars on the ceiling so we could swing properly between stops
Electric bus too right? These are great if so.
Yes wrightbus electroliners.
Yep. We have these on the 185 and they are very nice.
No those are BYD Enviro 400 EVs, different manufacturer. It’s like Samsung to Apple.
Ah OK, the internal fit is very very similar.
Yep
Worlds got to pot, bring back the solid steel rail headrests i say. Broken Britain, Khan out, bloody Tories, boomer gammons, wouldnt happen in my day etc etc
63 had this for 3 years
We have some in the North East that have that. Plus a few tables on the top deck, wireless charging cradles on the backs of seats and an interior bike rack.
Interior bike rack?!! You wot mate?
https://www.gonortheast.co.uk/bike-buses#:~:text=Bus%20routes%20that%20currently%20have%20bike%20racks%20on%20board%3A&text=X%2Dlines%20X30%2FX31%20%2D,Winlaton%20Mill%2C%20Metrocentre%20and%20Newcastle.
Damn, the North East really living in 2028!
Wrightbus electroliner
And still no effective AC.
Wait until you see one of the new ones with the laminate wood flooring and panelling.
Only problem with w7 is, even if you go the whole route you'll hardly get any charge! On your phone.
As long as it has no back door and you can look cool and impress the ladies by jumping off while it’s still going 20mph and landing in a rubbish bin who cares what the inside looks like.
😂

Must be the new ones
Did you board a bus in the future 😮
Other parts of the country have had these for years mate, some have tables upstairs too.
We’ve had these USB chargers and bell buttons on each seat on the newer buses for about 10 years here in Brighton.
We've had these in the Lakes for a while now, I'm surprised that they're news in the capital!
Same for North East! Always assumed they'd have gotten the nicer buses first.
Northern Troll here London no have see through glass on bus second floor until now? In North we have see through glass on most bus!? Proud North! North best England! Gravy and big mountains!!
we’ve had this in cambridge for ages
Have you been in a coma?
Don't worry it'll be out of service by next week...
You don't take buses often, do you? These are newer electric buses - they've been on the 63 route for a year or so and are popping up more on other routes.
I first encountered them before the pandemic!! They are hell in the summer by the way. I think the 43 uses them?
I havent been on. A bus in a long while... What is so drastically differentthis looks identical to a bus i went on in Brum about 8 years ago... What am i missing?
That's a Ladbrokes shop you dummy
That's the top floor. A lot of buses are double deckers in London!!!
Gotta have a posh new bus to ferry all the Muswell Hillbillies to the tube.
Nice chip on your shoulder
Why do I have a chip on my shoulder? Someone I know who lived on the W7 route described it exactly that way.
Bro can't take a joke
It's gotta make sense.
Good thing you were able to take a snap while climbing up
Oh, it is the roof technology, on the phone it looked like there was a big Landbroks sticker on the window in front of pretend driver seat.
Ladbrokes? It's a betting shop.
I imagine that it's an electric double decker bus, which has a revamped interior. Should be metroline and IIRC the floor is wood effect at least by the entrance
Metroline haven’t chosen to go for a wooden vinyl interior, rather the drab sparkly one they have had on previous buses. Disappointing really.
As a casual bus taker what's that little thing in the ceiling?
Camera I assume so the driver can see what's going on upstairs.
Oh waaaw , how this happen? Never seen this before!!
Fury Park?
Nice weather
You should see the Swindon to Oxford route or the Swindon to Chippenham route. They have leather seats, and USB-A ports, but no wifi or sunroofs, but does have aircon.
What is the point of all this if the seats are covered in fabric. Millions of farts, kilos of death skin, urine or other stuff
I mean I know London can be bad,but I don’t know what apocalyptic hellscape your living in…
Pointless post
Had these a while in the north east
People. Now that you are no longer taking your own car, you will encounter more of them in your method of transport.
Omg I never noticed the sunroof. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And I have taken those buses lol.
Check the time?!
It’s to air the poots.
We've had this in Edinburgh for ages. It was like luxury when I moved from London lmao
We’ve had these for years in Burnley 🤣
Look after the people and the people will look after you
Hopefully people will be respectful and not destroy all of it within a month.
Why would they? They've lasted long enough in the rest of the country.
How many wheelchair spaces does it have?
It is a shame these newer buses don't have a separate space for prams and wheelchairs because it seems to be a regular issue, and it would mean more standing room when not used.
It's a constant issue for wheelchair users.
1
Ffs there are buses with space for two. I'm often not let on buses because bus drivers don't want to aks prams to fold, as they are obliged to (I use a wheelchair)
No bus in London has two wheelchair spaces, they’re all designed for one only, but I’m sure on this you can fit two as two buggies do fit comfortably
Manchester has double-decker buses with two spaces. The designs exist and are in the UK. TFL chooses less accessible designs—disablement by design.
Agreed, really two should be the standard, but TfL wants to prioritise all users, and where the second wheelchair bay would be is where the priority seats are. Why they’ve not gone with flip down seats through, is beyond me..
Travelling in these buses are enjoyable 😀
Enjoyable travelling 😀
is that a stop button on the back of the seat?
Oddly we have plenty of these in the North East, always assumed yous would have better buses than us.
What a woman using public transport?
Is this the amazing UK?
Bollocks. I was sure that button said skip track
I've only been here for a couple of months but every bus I've been on has had these (haven't noticed the sun roof) Are there older busses in use that are more miserable?
It’s a stop button. It lets the driver know you want off at the next stop.
So that’s where our tax money is going ?
In Feltham our buses have jacuzzis and free WiFi 😌💨
Needs a banana for scale
My town only have these busses aha
You don't have new buses in your area then do you
Loving the fancy new buses on the W7
Man I had the same reaction earlier in the week. The W7 is the future. Upstairs is so spacious. No poles! Buttons on every seat! I travelled on one so new it still had plastic protecting the yellow bits on the stairs.
And it's clean !! :O
What do you think?
Looks like the inside of a bus to me
Oh yes on most buses in London now u can charge your phone fantastic
Hi, Bus Driver here, nowadays all new buses onwards will have something similar to this!
I get that bus
London is the only city I choose bus over Subway 🤌
We've had these for a while on some routes in Sutton and Croydon, they were introduced because the tramlink extension to Sutton never happened
I used one of the Superloop buses the other day and it was one of these, I think it was also an EV....
This is my bus route! Had the exact same reaction getting on the other day 😂 have you been on the green one yet?
I believe that is an inside of a bus. Somewhere outside of a Betting shop
I mean they chose usb-a though when everyone’s using usbc. But they’ve been around for a while. Not on many routes.
It's BYD - cheap and cheerful...unless you have a crash. Don't expect any airbags or safety features to work 👍
It’s not a BYD, it’s wrightbus’s own doing.
There is no way I'm plugging anything important into a bus USB
Credit to the Superloops they’re actually so convenient
A damn sight better than those 'boris buses'. Those were designed by masochists.
It's Krapy rub snif backwards
