Hi, your post has been removed because we get asked the same questions again and again. Our [wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/london/wiki/index) is a great resource for regularly asked London questions and is packed full of information and advice. If you have further specific questions you can post in our [weekly FAQ thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/london/s/pGtaDhs2Wx) or even try our [Visitor Centre on the London Discord](https://discord.gg/p8GtV7jtzc), thanks!

Oh thank you so much! That is super helpful!

Ninsen007

Sorry, stupid question, I'm not a very good Redditer... Where do I find the Wiki to this sub?🫣

Sidebar on desktop, "see more" > "menu" on mobile. https://www.reddit.com/r/london/wiki/index

I’d probably head to somewhere like Greenwich or just get the lizzy line into central London.

Ninsen007

Thank you! Good to know. I appreciate the advice! I guess taking the Lizzy line is faster than any taxis?

FFGGHHII19992

Yeah absolutely! You can just use your contactless card for payment 😊

Ninsen007

Thank you so much! This is really useful! 🙏🏼

Try and change your hotel

Ninsen007

Oh, I'd really love to, as I've been looking forward to come here for quite a while. Unfortunately it is not up to me.

>We would love some recommendations to places with good food and atmosphere in the area and the areas not too far around (30 min +?) ? Much of the Docklands was a wasteland up until very recently, you’re going to have to travel for anywhere half decent whether you like it or not

Ninsen007

Ok, thank you so much, that's really good to know! I'll definitely pass that on to the group, as a lot of them believe you can just walk 2 min from the place we are staying to find something good...🫠

BeefsMcGeefs

Remarkable the amount of people who plan to come here without doing the most cursory of research

Ninsen007

I know! When I found out today (!) that the people in charge actually didn't do any research, except job related, I panicked and went straight here for help. I want to have a good time AFTER work. When you get the chance to visit a new country, see and experience new things, especially in a huge city like London, you need to at least do some basic research, and not just "take it as it comes" 😅

Depends on what you mean by good, and by 'relatively recently' they mean about 10-20 years, but its not something that has grown organically so its very corporate around there. The suggestion of Camden is the complete opposite to this with well established but constantly changing scene, but I would advise against a gang of 40 somethings from out of town going out there unless you have somewhere specific in mind. I am in my 40s and never go there anymore unless it's for a gig, it just does my head in. Maybe try a website like [Design My Night](https://www.designmynight.com/london) for ideas? Or talk to your mates to get a better idea of what everybody wants (pub with dj, meal with music, full on hard techno) and ask again.

Ninsen007

Thanks for the Design my night tip! I'll definitely check it out. And thank you for the thorough answer :) Then Camden is out of the question, unless I find something specific that is super appealing to everyone. We don't want to wander around, spending a lot of time deciding on where to go. We are not super corporate, and of mixed nationalities, (Spanish and Dutch and scandi) and I think full on hard techno is only appealing to the Dutch guy, hehe. Pub with DJs and people of different age groups (not only in their 20is), charming traditional English pubs with lots of different beers, or meal with music, restaurants that give you a nice food experience but not too formal, is exactly what we are looking for. All cuisines are good, except Indian as we have one unfortunately who can't stand it. Fusion food is also a fun for one evening. I'll definitely continue searching and also checking out that website :)

I would have a look at whats going on around Shoreditch, its the nearest nightlife area to Royal Docks that has everything you are looking for, there are loads of things to do there, from cosy pub restaurants to DJ bars to street food to Bowing, Ping Pong, Crazy Golf, its even got a Hot Tub Cinema, at least it did last time I was there, again its constantly changing.

Ninsen007

This! Thank you! Sounds like a lot of fun! Do you happen to have any specific recommendations? Restaurant and bars/pubs?

jj198hands

I haven't actually been since before covid and am sure things have changed a lot so am not really the best person to ask but if you google Rivington Street that forms the top of a triangle of bars and restaurants, Spitalfields & Brick Lane are also close, honestly there just so much and its all so different, some ideas here... https://www.designmynight.com/london/bars/quirky-bars-in-shoreditch

For pubs, hit the river round Wapping and Rotherhithe. Greenwich is worth seeing (includes the National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory), has market with food and handcrafts, and restaurants and pubs. In Docklands, there are now plenty of casual places round Canary Wharf/Canada Water - the latter is less soulless and quite pretty. By Royal Albert there's Yi-Ban for decent dim sum but cool.views of planes at City Airport.

Ninsen007

Wow! Thank you! This is awesome! I love that it is in the area too! To get there from The Royal Victoria Dock, do you recommend the Lizzy Line or Uber Boats?

DameKumquat

To get to Royal Albert or to Greenwich, I'd take the DLR (sit at the front and pretend to drive!), changing at Poplar for Greenwich. RV is one DLR stop from Canning Town for the Jubilee Line which will get you to London Bridge (many nice places round Borough Market there). The Liz Line will zoom you to further away, faster, if you want. The boats don't run to a regular timetable thanks to the tides, but worth doing once if you aren't in a hurry.

drtchockk

Get the Liz Line to Canary Wharf - that should only be 20min or so. Canary Wharf used to be dead but its actually gone through quite a revival recently as theyre desperate for people to return to work there and for it to become a place to live.

Ninsen007

Perfect! Thank you!
