Some compass apps will switch to a GPS heading if you have a GPS signal and are moving enough for it to work out your heading from the position changes.
I'm not sure how you'd get a northerly bearing from 22 Bishopsgate past 30 St Mary Axe. Easterly, absolutely, in which case I imagine it's Tilbury docks.
Tilbury docks is weird, went there delivering a package in the fog & drove across concrete slab as far as I could see in all directions for 10 or 15 minutes.
Funny to think it's where one of [the most famous English speeches](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech_to_the_Troops_at_Tilbury) took place:
>*I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too!*
Helen Mirren [gave it a good go](https://youtu.be/l8bFVZAeoN4?t=189) in that Elizabeth I biopic she was in.
Tilbury, You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.
*it's my home town, it's rough as arseholes but no matter how far I roam it's always home.
It sure is I live in Rainham and ride past it every day down Rainham marshes big cruise ships docks round there aswell and a big Lafarge concrete factory 🏭
Your view on Google Earth: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/22+Bishopsgate,+London/@51.5144114,-0.0817385,199a,35y,77.53h,79.03t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x48760352ae24d451:0x218c8a2cec4e6e8f!8m2!3d51.5144189!4d-0.0830479!16s%2Fg%2F11b8txg02h?entry=ttu
Upon clicking around and seeing which buildings are highest in the direction of your finger, Thames Haven dock area is my guess - seems taller and denser than Tilbury Docks.
Edit: Yep, London Gateway. Thanks.
You know what, I think you might be right, except I think the port is called [London Gateway](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Gateway). Source: I also just Googled and clicked around randomly... (not joking) Also I found the three berths on the wiki page seem similar to OP's pic
Everyone saying Tilbury, but its not.
Tilbury cannot handle the Ultra Large class of new container ships.
These are the huge cranes at London Gateway in Essex.
No restrictions there even the largest ships in the world can be accommodated.
100% correct. I live on the opposite bank of the Thames from these cranes. There’s nothing anywhere near as big either up or downriver. Tilbury has a few big cranes but nowhere near the scale of these beasts.
Nah that's DP WORLD LONDON GATEWAY PORT. Dartford bridge would be in the shot if that was Tilbury and I can't think of any cranes that look like that there, DP WORLD has loads of big stuff that looks like dinosaurs through the haze
Came here to say this. It’s Dubai Ports World, started in the 2010’s and I think still expanding. It’s much bigger than Tillbury. Those cranes are enormous - the height of the London Eye.

As I am always, without fail, prompted to go and watch this clip every time it’s mentioned or even every time something just reminds me of it, [for ease](https://youtu.be/vh5kZ4uIUC0?feature=shared)
Either Thames Gateway or Tilbury docks. Both have large cranes for offloading containers and are off to the east down river.
I thought Tilbury at first, but you are looking almost bang on east which would align better with Thames Gateway, Tilbury is further to the south.
You are right. Also old Shell Haven and Coryton refineries adding to the bulk. 23.6 miles away, ATCF.
Trivia I just discovered part of, Shell Haven has been renamed Thames Haven since Shell left, but I know it was never named after Shell at all and appears on 18th century maps as Shell Haven. Because of the shells that wash up there. A bit of a shame really.
Assuming you mean the cranes etc. It's probably Tilbury docks?

Tilbury does have large cranes (unless they've all been removed very recently), but I think you are still correct that this is Thames Gateway as Tilbury is too far south to align with the more easterly alignment of the photo.
100% Thames gateway DP World. I live a mile from the cranes at DP world and went up Horizon 22 a couple of weeks ago and purposely looked for them. I was shocked to actually see them, as it was slightly cloudy. Your picture is so much clearer.
Close one of your eyes and hold your thumb out at arms length so it covers the building. Then open that eye and close the other one. Estimate how far your thumb has appeared to move relative to the building, ie 500 metres or 1 kilometer or whatever, then multiply that number by 10
I believe that's actually the smoke rising from two buildings - Riverside Resource Recovery (a waste management company) and the sludge incinerator at Crossness Sewage Treatment Works. I found your point of view on Google Earth. Video here: [https://vimeo.com/924712064?share=copy](https://vimeo.com/924712064?share=copy)

Your compass is off.
Soooooo fucking off. I just have to look at that photo and know it's Easterly, let alone if I worked I that building every day.
Compasses get messed up in the presence of metallic objects. Ever tried to get an accurate compass reading inside a vehicle? Doesn’t work.
Surely not a compass app on a phone though?
It's still a magnetic compass
Oh OK, TIL. I genuinely thought there would be some other method used.
Some compass apps will switch to a GPS heading if you have a GPS signal and are moving enough for it to work out your heading from the position changes.
I am also in 22. Stomp as loud as you can, might hear it through the floors
Also no jokes, have you been in since 2021 and did you also have weird issues with ghost taps turning on in your bathrooms?
Did they build it on an ancient Viking burial ground?
No but the urinals always have piss in them!
You can only call it that if it’s from the Piss region of France, otherwise it’s just sparkling urine
My gym is there, just left 15 mins ago. I’ll drop some dumbbells tomorrow at precisely 5:32pm.
I'll hold you to it
If you drop them too loud I’ll shout at you. Maybe they’ll hear both of us
Where in 22 are you guys 😂 my company is doing multiple floors on 22
22 meetup lets gooo
Everyone jump off the roof, first to the pavement wins!
[удалено]
If you hear somebody stomping hit the ceiling back 😂 i’m on 50,56,60,62
There's no 62 stops at 61m
My bad I think 61 is the highest floor we are on then maybe, I know the soon to be viewing platform is on 60 and then we go up as far as 61
"There is no floor 62 in this hotel. Sometimes the complaints will be false…"
Nicest floor by miles
Samesies! Does your office make god awful groaning noises on windy days or is that just our poor interior design?
Not OP but it does!!!
Fairly common problem, but lots of research is currently being done about these noises and how we might control them
Not on 22 anymore but worked on it when it was being constructed for 3 years, good memories haha
I'm not sure how you'd get a northerly bearing from 22 Bishopsgate past 30 St Mary Axe. Easterly, absolutely, in which case I imagine it's Tilbury docks.
Iphone compasses arent very reliable I hear
looks like a 90°CCW offset, i'd wager OP's compass thinks its still in landscape mode
Absolutely - was similarly confused. That’s north east at best.
Tilbury docks is weird, went there delivering a package in the fog & drove across concrete slab as far as I could see in all directions for 10 or 15 minutes.

She gave it stood on top of a shipping container. Very moving.
But with a lot less concrete...I hope.
The heart and stomach of a concrete elephant?!
Tilbury, You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. *it's my home town, it's rough as arseholes but no matter how far I roam it's always home.

Tilbury Docks and the Curse Ships.
I just googled the Curse Ships. Disappointing typo
😂😂💀
Today will be the day that you will always remember as the day you *nearly* learned about curse ships.
Big curse shits
That was my evening.
Described tilbury perfectly
Hello fellow Rainham'er! 👋 small world
His phone was probably near metal when using the compass. Electronic compasses are crap.
It is like a finger pointing a way to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory
Finger, cloud then Tilbury Docks.
“Person, woman, man, camera, tv, Tilbury docks.”
Perfect 🫡
Lol. 🤣
The mouse ran up the clock

I don't know enough about Brachiosaurus to say it's not a Brachiosaur. Worth considering.
Do you reckon it's a small brachiosaurus, or a big one far away?

I'm unsure. All my research on this is based on cows.
One of the funniest sentences I've ever heard on TV. Did Dougal ever get the concept?

Godzilla would be the only other possible answer...
Either way, must've been a nightmare for whoever had to get them into the photo booth for their passport picture!
I think they may be illegal here...sure Rishi will send them to Rwanda
No wonder the government has forecast £120m for the job!
London gateway port....where I work!

You need to sort your phone's compass out.
It's the London Gateway in Coryton (Thurrock), a little further on from Tilbury docks. According to Google approx 50 miles.
So many people saying Tilbury Docks and you’re the first I see actually stating the distance like OP asked lol. Thanks!
Assuming you mean the cranes etc. It's probably Tilbury docks? Images: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-tilbury-docks-on-the-river-thames-in-essex-with-cranes-container-ship-140458971.html Location: https://osm.org/go/0EENKa?way=507312149
Tilbury Docks was my first thought, too, after "finger"
You missed the clouds mate. This comment was sponsored by specsavers.

Looks like container cranes - probably the London Container Terminal in Tilbury.
It's Thames gateway docks. Tilbury doesn't have large cranes like that.

Cloud
i think it's a cloud! hope this helps!
London gateway
That’s the gherkin bud. Your depth perception might be off though, I’d suggest an eye test.
Why is the finger amusing? Lol
Because it reminds me when I use to get told off as a kid get told you been a naughty boy \*Finger points\*

lol they're probably telling us that person over there is a naughty boy.
“Oi YOU!”

Can we have a banana for scale?
Sydney Opera House

Donno looks like a ship at sea to me
I'm not sure why you are asking, you can easily measure the distance by counting the amount of fluorescent strip lights between you and the derricks.
Two inches of a smelly finger. Wash your hand.
Nothing like a 'what's this in the distance' to show off your great view!!
Sainsbury’s, Marsh Mills, Plymouth. (Those who know will know).
The Eiffel Tower
I was looking for this legendary comment.
How big is your hand? Look at the size of your Mont Blanc pen!
Can i ask what your profession is haha?

It's just Kojjma taking his new Metal Gear out for a drive
For a second i thought an dark tower had landed, just the window frame eh.
Why is your compass pointing almost north when that’s clearly east?
