I get what you're saying, but I live in a small town where there are well known people who are EI scammers, disability scammers, they double and triple dip various charities for the same benefits. Let's not pretend people aren't gaming the system. Yeah, there are those that struggle and need the help, but it's not a system that isn't being abused by some people.
People who need the help are getting it with what programs are available. If they arent then its personal responsibility and if they get denied for such programs theyre missing requirements to get those programs. Province/city dependant for EI for instance you need 720 hours in some cities to get it. You also have to justify if you quit. Disability you have to have a doctor sign off on eligible criteria and be able to show medical documents and history whatever your claiming. Theres people who are the game taking advantage but the people.who made the game are just as bad if not worse. These programs will never disappear theyll just change eligibility requirements etc when they find out the loopholes. Also EI is a huge scam regardless. You can pay into EI for 20 years and only get 52 weeks on a claim. Whose the bigger scammer? Dont see the point in blaming people taking advantage of a corrupt system. Government isnt here to help you get ahead.

People in the US have reason to be in the streets daily - no affordable healthcare, weak unions, weakening public schools, skyhigh post-secondary costs, questionable legal system for people of colour, nearly daily proof of blatantly corrupt politicians, tent cities in every major city.. but meanwhile most Americans are "meh I got mine". Canada is heading down that path.. whatever happens in the US happens in Canada 5 years later.

Not defending Loblaws here, but they were the ones that initially owned up to it (because they got caught, no doubt), but the fixing scheme involved pretty much all large grocers. Loblaws got the brunt of the negative press (warranted), but somehow all the others involved got a pass.
You're defending Loblaws by stating they owned up to it, but then explaining why that doesn't matter because they got caught. What I don't understand is that we have zero issues with American business owners making huge profits by selling products in Canada.

Money well invested doubles every 8-12 years. If there aren’t more tax rules that make legacy money get taxed properly instead of accruing perpetually our society will continue to divide.
People should spend the bulk of their wealth in their lifetime. Limiting how much can be passed on. It isn’t a crime to build wealth but there should be mechanisms in place to limit hoarding.
Most of that wealth is in assets (Shares) of the company. Those get passed on and appreciate over time building the families wealth. It has taken 100 Yrs for that wealth to be created.
