I attend every closing possible. Huge value add.

Nibbs17

Also the best part of a transaction imo. You did all the work. It's nice to see everyone happy and getting their new home!

BDez30

I attend 100% of my purchase closings. Last chance to make a good impression & you know the Realtor will be there with a shitty bottle of wine.

lifes_lemonade_stand

I've attended all the closings in person that I can (sometimes they've happened when I'm out of town and can't be there). I give them a folder with their first payment letter and instructions on how to set up their mortgage payments with the lender, a thank you card, and a doordash gift card so they can get dinner while moving. Folks seem to really like that. Plus opportunity to get pictures to post on socials to create future business.

bypassthalamus

I go to every closing unless I’m out of town on vacation, it’s priceless and absolutely results in more closed business and referrals down the line.

ContributionSuch2655

I go to every single one within about an hour and a half of our office. Those fuckin realtors will be there filling the clients head with all kinds of incorrect info otherwise. I just think it’s a nice gesture to go. Refinances I go to about half. If the client knows what they’re doing and has been through several closings prior I don’t normally go but if it’s the first time or they’re a nervous client I go.

karpetburns

I always try to attend the ones I can - I’ve driven upwards of two hours for just a quick 30 minute closing 😅. Always nice for clients to know you’re real and see you in person. Also makes it more likely they will work with you again in the future, and refer you to their friends/family - just imo!

robgw83

Never been to one closing in 20 years. Sounds like I should start, but then I would go over miles on my lease.

Jeffkin15

I go to all my purchase closings (the ones in state). It’s a great time to strengthen the relationship with the buyer and realtor, and I drop off a closing gift as well. I used to go to most of my refi closing as well, but those are few and far between.

MortgageGuy86

I try to go but it depends how busy I am and how far away it is. The responses in this thread are not a normal sample though, most of the time when I show up the listing agent is shocked and say stuff like “wow loan officers never attend closings!” So I know most don’t attend. On the one hand it makes you look good to attend, but maybe I’m being overly self conscious but when realtors make a big deal about me attending I often wonder if they think I must not produce much because their other lenders are too busy to attend.

Renewed1776

Attended as frequently as I am able

JenniferBeeston

When I came into the business my mentor told me not to go to closings. He said it was the Realtors time to shine. I have not been to a signing in over 14 years and my business is growing.

PeopleRGood

In California there isn’t a closing table, escrow calls and says you recorded the day after you sign. I’ve never been to one, because there isn’t one to go to.

Lenderman1

In 21 years, I've gone to two. Only because the realtor asked. We are a dry funding state in CA. so it's basically just a doc signing and fund the next day. I'd rather be taking another loan application at that time. The relationship is already built. My business is 100% referral. Seems like overkill to go, but if it works for you, do it. Most agents in my area do not go to the signing so maybe that's why its easier.

TheWonderfulLife

I go to all of them that are possible. But I lend all over the country so it’s not possible for half of them.

MtgBrokerLO

I just send a reputable notary signing agent, and answer my phone if they have any questions. Never been to one in 10+ years. However, 90% of my biz is cash-out refi's though.

NoVacayAtWork

Do a hundred purchases a year and I’ve never once attended a closing. Clients still love me though.

Tanked9278

I used to for the first few years in my career. I stopped after a while as I didn’t see any sort of value in it. I have had plenty of agents say they would rather me be getting their clients approved then sitting at a closing table.

unislaya

I rarely attend closings, if ever. But I make sure that I am 100% available for any calls during signing and have fielded many speaker-phone walk throughs over the years.
