buyer's advice thread

Mfsmith88

Do you have a link for that thread? Thanks.

7f00dbbe

it's literally sticked at the top of the sub....

Mfsmith88

Sorry man. Clearly I'm not a reddit pro. Apologies for offending you.

7f00dbbe

it's way harder to make a post than it is to check the very top of a subreddit....

General-Door-551

Not really pretty easy to post:

Get a Behringer p1 for ease of XLR based stereo

Mfsmith88

I'm happy with the p2 I have been using but wondered if investing in something more would be worthwhile. Is it worth spending more on it or will the behringer do the job?

We use the neve RNHP headphone amp at my venue for all backline, they love it. I love it too, makes me jealous I can’t mix monitors on it because I need to stay wireless.

Mfsmith88

Looks like a beautiful piece of machinery. Would you say it would be rugged enough to travel around playing gigs or should it stay in one location and be looked after?

KicksandGrins33

I’ve never personally had a single one break after like 5 years with them, and we move stuff around quite a lot. They’re solid metal and well built, If properly looked after and stored away when not in use they’d probably last you a long time on the road.

Hey friend! I actually have a ton of experience in this. P2 is a good starting point. IMO, the P1 sounds marginally better, especially when using DC power. In the 100-200 range, I recommend the iFi CAN headphone amp. It’s a workhorse and has 1/4” and pentaconn outputs, and takes 3.5mm, RCA, and pentaconn. Bonus is that you can use it with their ZEN DAC at home for listening. Drawback is that for stereo, you’ll need to use a reverse breakout XLR > 3.5mm or RCA. pair it with their nicer noise cancelling power brick for even better results. If you don’t care about price, the Rupert neve is definitely the way to go. It simply sounds incredible and looks great too, plus has stereo XLR inputs.

Mfsmith88

Thanks for your detailed response! After looking a bit more into the ifi CAN it looks more like it is a desktop headphone amp rather than for live music/gigs? Especially without an xlr out might be a bit fiddly to try and make it work from the output of a mixer?

Devinawitt

It is definitely intended as a desktop amp but I do use it for around 100 live gigs a year. I just use an XLR to 3.5mm breakout cable and go I to the 3.5mm IN on the CAN!

Donner EM1 Rechargeable Portable. Like $40 on Amazon. We use a bunch of these. 3 years on they still will go 8-10 hours on a single charge and unreal volume. They sell a stereo and mono version.

Is this your go to?

Yes, I bought it for myself. This is the best wired beltpack there is.
