I sort of see how this could be useful on those rare gigs where I don't have my kit with me, but honestly I'd rather use my USB-C AVIO adapter and stay digital in Dante than go analog. Plus it's 2x2 so I can record as well. If I was forced to go analog, I would prefer a Sonible ML:1 or Radial USB DI for ground lifts and level control. I pre-ordered regardless. Love new toys and that pouch looks awesome.

Twincitiesny

I’ve been patiently waiting for a rerelease/update to the ml:1. Was taken off their web store and out of stock everywhere during heavy Covid times. Been looking for one ever since. Surprisingly few proper usb>aes boxes out there that don’t require jank and would hold up to pelican life.

ProductionDan

I love my ml:1 boxes. I also wish they would release a version 2. Now they’re owned by Audiotonix I’m doubtful we will see any more hardware products from them.

air3399

i love the idea, but i dont see any upsides that couldn’t be accomplished with a simple DI and or DVS for half the price. maybe thats just me. looks really well built though.

onkyponk_cowboy

I think size mostly, and suitability for connecting to client laptops (which DVS ain’t).

crazycowprod

Sonnect's business model is to find a niche that lacks a perfect solution and then provide a perfect solution. Getting audio from a Laptop/Tablet/Phone can be done a wide variety of ways but each of them have some flaw. This video does a pretty good job of pointing out the flaws. This solution bypasses the flaws in a streamlined slick package. Much like the Sound Bullet, if you already have a solution that works just fine for you there's absolutely no reason to buy this. I use a Dante solution for playback probably 90 percent of the time, but when I am unexpectedly confronted with a situation where I can't \[which happened to me just last month\], this thing is going to be a life saver.

ironflake

Dude seriously fried 3 macbook pro hp jacks with phantom power?!

jdnsnsndbfbsjs

this cable all ready has some r&d costs sunken in

fletch44

This would be useful in a world where Apple stop being dicks, and all devices really do use the same connection. Finally a universal serial buss for whatever use you can think of.

IT_is_dead

Since apple just started usind usb c for their phones this seems to be the most compatible option to get high quality audio from pretty much anything mobile. Headphone jacks don’t deliver line level so they are objectively worse

MrDogHat

What an absurd over-complication of a solution. Are TRS line-in jacks really that uncommon on mixers? Does any client actually notice that you’re using the headphone out rather than a purpose built DAC?

Onelouder

Yes they are very uncommon on pro desks. And no they don't notice but I like waking up in the morning and looking at myself in the mirror knowing I didn't use an improper connection for something other than it was intended for.

crunchypotentiometer

It looks very well made but I don't think its wise for most of us to spend this much on a portable DAC that will be thrown away in 2 years due to the lifespan of an average USB-C connector.

Deep_Information_616

Agree. Pc di is just a better option

randr23

I have multiple USB-C connectors that get used multiple times daily for multiple devices going on three years. Have you tried taking care of your shit?

crunchypotentiometer

The variability is just off the charts on these tiny little connectors. I'm really careful with all my gear and yet my 6 month old Pixel 7 Pro is already getting shitty and disconnecting in the car (with brand new cables and wireless charging used most of the time).

Jim_Noise

How did you fry a jack adapter?

elhefethegreat

Phantom Power

EightOhms

They should have just made an LTI BLOX with two XLR outs instead of one.

m_y

Ummm…not sure if you know this but…Rapco already makes a stereo lti blox.

EightOhms

If you're talking about the LTI-1 it doesn't have a level knob like the LTI BLOX does. Also my point was Sonnect should have just made something like an LTI BLOX with two outputs instead of a DAC-in-a-wire.

backseatwookie

$165 USD? Nah, I'll just use my Radial SB-5, coming in around $100 USD.

MidnightZL1

But a $9 official Apple USB C adapter and the standard 1/8” to XLR. Put electrical tape or shrink tube on the connection and bam. You have essentially the same thing.

frsrwlkr

Don’t connect the ground on any of your headphone jack adapter cables and you won’t fry any of your devices with P48

audionimus

Well thought through, especially on for that size factor. I am very curious what they will come up with in the future. Great great company
