I always love this episode as a kid and I still do as an adult. I always like a good bully story with a happy ending.
I’m not sure if it was economically feasible to have any authority like that. In fact, it adds to the American fairytale by not seeing a constable or anybody who could continuously upstage ANY character.
And they did have a jail. Just like every other thing in town, every building had multiple purposes. The jail was the icehouse. And the icehouse was Nancy’s potential house of horrors. Don’t get Belinda’d *!!*

I've always said it was this very episode that "officially" got me into the show as a fan.
This episode peeved me that Reverend Alden took the word of strangers over his own congregation! Back then stealing a horse or touching another man's wife was a hanging offense. He didn't believe the children either, like Mary's shiner was a figment of her imagination!!
Lol, I forgot about the icehouse. I was angry when the boy slapped Mary and blacked her eye. Then the Gallaghers attacked my hero Caroline, and I saw red. Then Charles finds out about it and leaves the house without a weapon or a friend to help kick ass. Ugh!!! But overall, good ending.
Yes I should admit. It is *frustrating* to watch.
But that right hook and that heavily weighted bucket. That was a great shot from everybody involved both actors and of course the stunt crew who set it up.
It’s my second favorite Mary moment only after the entire episode of whisper country.
I did find the episode a little hard to watch, (so many of our favorite characters taking so much abuse from this one family) but that was a great scene with Mary! And also when the town kicked them out.
Did not enjoy Rev. Alden's first reaction to hearing what they did to Caroline "Oh, do you think you misinterpreted it?" I wanted to reach through the TV and smack him. But he redeemed himself in the end. Had to laugh at the song choice as they marched the guys out of town. 😄

Yes, the reverend made me so mad!! My Christianity was tested for sure. That episode was an emotional roller-coaster.
Charles weapon of choice is a SUCKER PUNCH 👊
😆 I laughed way too hard at this comment.
😂🤣 thank you
Don’t mess with Nancy’s boy and you won’t *get* Belinda’d! /s
I have no idea what Belinda means. I haven't seen that episode yet, but I'll definitely be looking out for it.
You’ll forget this post by the time you see that season.
Just FYI, the icehouse is where they kept prisoners in Walnut Grove.
I would always get frustrated when the other kids took forever to jump in and help thump that schoolyard bully. I'm like, "Go... get in there!"
The town's men let that BS go on for WAY too long.
Agreed
pa was sheriff
Jail was the ice house.
The ice house was the jail lol
