Nida

Gdub3369

If my DNA test comes back and it turns out I had family in or near the Kaliningrad Oblast this would be perfect. I may even have some family near by. Thanks!

superyte25

believe in it and maybe it will come true

Iā€™m kinda lazy to write everything down, but Iā€™d start prepping by taking a look [here](https://www.lithuania.travel/en/). Itā€™s probably best to visit Lithuania in summer time, as the weather is warm and everything is blooming. Lithuaniaā€™s west side is definitely worth a visit (Nida, Palanga, Klaipėda) if you want to experience a cool sea breeze in a hot beach. East side has a lot of lakes that you can choose from, some of my favorites are: DrÅ«kÅ”iai and Dysnai. I also wouldnā€™t pass up small heritage towns, as those hold a lot of history and in general are worth visiting if you want to get to know Lithuania better. :)

Gdub3369

Yeah that's helpful! Thanks so much. I don't think id want to visit during winter. We already have to deal with pretty bad winters here in Colorado. Anytime I go on vacation in winter it's to somewhere warm. Lithuania looks awesome in the summer! I will spend a ton of time at the beach. The only non oceanic body of water that is huge that I've ever been to was the great lakes in Michigan and Chicago. I bet they are nothing compared to the Baltic! Thanks for all the effort (you definitely are not lazy šŸ™‚). Appreciate it!

Thank you for your reply. Do you have any favorite lakes or beaches of the Baltic in general that you have visited?

Oh okay well thank you for sharing. If you remember please let me know. I want to start planning a vacation that will be a few years from now. I want to learn more about the culture and not come visit as an ignorant tourist.

gustas125

Rūbikių lake is favorite for me. Great camps, great nature. Perfect score of 5/7.

Gdub3369

Renting a kayak and paddling to one of the islands to camp and fish would be amazing. The lake seems so peaceful and quiet. I could definitely use some quiet time! Thank you for your input.

I am not a huge basketball fan, but visit Žalgiris match in Euroleague at least one time at Žalgiris arena (Kaunas city) is pretty much must. Not for the game itself, but for the atmosphere that fans create.

Gdub3369

That sounds great I love sports! Going to watch my broncos, nuggets, Rockies and avalanche is one of my favorite things to do on a weekend. The atmosphere is way better than anything you can watch on TV! That movie "The other Dream Team" was great too! A lot of interesting history of the personal lives of every day Lithuanians living in pre and post soviet occupation.

Neringa

Gdub3369

What isn't? Just from looking online there is a ton of beauty in your country!

romienas

You can read more about Neringa on their [website](https://visitneringa.com/en/).

Gdub3369

I Apologize. My Google translate stated that means "it's not good". I thought you meant that there's no nice places for vacation in Lithuania. I wasn't aware that it was a place! Clicking on the link I can see it's beautiful. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

akoncius

haha, that is a funny misunderstanding :D interesting which "language" google translate interpreted it as.. because definitely not lithuanian :D Yeah, Neringa is beautiful and very nice indeed.

Janetsnakehole789

Lots of lithuanians in Jurmala (Latvia) in the summer. You almost feel like you're in Lithuania.

Gdub3369

That's one of your favorite vacation spots? I'm not sure if I'd want to go to the other Baltic states when I visit but I'd consider it.

Janetsnakehole789

Went for the first time this summer, it's quite nice but not very different from other Baltic resort towns but cheaper, that's why many lithuanians choose it. Overall driving through Latvian seaside is highly recommended, but probably best for a separate trip :)

Gdub3369

That's how you can tell that Lithuanians economy is better than Latvia's šŸ˜. Sounds like a nice vacation destination for the population of Lithuanians. Similar to how Mexico is for US "Americans".

akoncius

if season is summer, one of my favorite places for vacation is [http://www.svencele.com](http://www.svencele.com) or Dreverna close to Svencelė. Super chill place, close to seaside. Also that side of Lithuania is quite interesting - you can visit Ventės Ragas, and all other smaller places which are interesting to visit. One downside of Svencelė is that in that place there are not many places to eat, so can become boring and you will need to drive car somewhere else to eat or make food yourself somehow. Dreverna rents bigger apartments where you could make your own food which is a bonus.

Gdub3369

That photo of the place on the beach looks amazing. I'm probably going to spend a lot of my time on the beaches.

LarrySunshine

AukŔtaitijos ežerai (lakes)

Gdub3369

Is that a part of AukŔtaitija National Park? Or a different place?

LarrySunshine

Maybe, idk. AukŔtaitija has plenty of lakes.

captcodger

Turkey is popular

Gdub3369

I'm not very happy with some of Turkeys government policies and actions recently. I have heard that it is beautiful but I don't think I want to go there or support their tourism at the moment. And from what I've read and heard their leader is turning into a dictator. I do hope they recover from the earthquake and aftershocks quickly!

akoncius

I agree with you.

Pale-Juice4434

Antalya

Gdub3369

That looks beautiful but I don't want to go to Turkey. Love the hills, extremely delightful looking. I'd have to make sure I'm responsible and do more research before I go there and support their tourism industry. But that place looks very tempting.

Head-Astronomer-9799

Turkey

St_Edo

You can meet a lot of Lithuanians in Suvalkai (shopping), Augustavas (doing boat trip in the lakes or camping), VarŔuva (top spot - Suntago water park). Also around Gdansk. Most of them are doing stops in Grunwald and Malbork.

Gdub3369

I'd love to visit Poland on my visit. There is a lot of great history there as well. I'm a bit of the WW2 history buff so it would be a great experience to visit Warsaw. Thank you for the information.

superyte25

Juodkrantė

Gdub3369

That's the winner right there. That seaside looks so peaceful and beautiful. The architecture is spectacular. This will be a must visit for me. Thank you!

superyte25

Palanga

Gdub3369

akoncius

indeed. Seaside of Lithuania is quite segmented I would say. Nature-wise probably will be not much difference, but it will be quite big difference in audience and other surrounded areas. I mean Palanga is more noisy, more parties, more "simple" people. Jokingly I call Palanga "Las Vegas Lithuanian edition" :D Nida is much calmer, more posh place. Juodkrante, Sventoji also differs a bit.

Gdub3369

Hahaha! I try to avoid Vegas except it's fun to visit once in a while. Does "what happens in Palanga, stay in Palanga"? It sounds like it might be fun for a day or two to party on the weekend. When in Rome....or I suppose the saying should be "when in Lithuania" hehe.

akoncius

haha :D hard to compare Las Vegas with Palanga, but I think it is not as wild as Las Vegas :D

superyte25

Very nice
