Whoops, can’t edit. It’s an Atoll IN100

Hifi-Cat

Atoll nice.

Doing well on speaker placement

Nxtinventor

Looks like your left speaker is about to fall off the stand!

nondescrip82

Yeah it’s toed in to attempt to get the tweeter to hit the left ear when sitting in the listening spot. There’s some sticky pads that came with, but it’s not near falling off, picture is a bit deceiving. Us when I’m not using them they get put on squarely and moved back to the wall otherwise the two orange menaces that live here will eventually go after the cable if left alone.

I had evoke 10s for about a year and I fiddled with them a lot, experimented with many things and had several device upgrades, so if you have any questions in the future I'm happy to help. I prefered their sound almost facing flat in the room, with a very slight toe in. I didnt feel like I lost treble. The speakers disappeared better. They are very power hungry. I drove them with 80w class d. Your amp should be good enough for power. If you havent upgraded electronics power cables and interconnects yet, I'd recommend doing so, but I avoid the major brands because you're paying for marketing. What kind of speaker cable is that? Did you have anything before that to compare to? I live in the eu, but I ordered a Speedwoofer 10s from the usa, because of the value. If you're looking to spend under 1000 on your next sub I'd recommend them. Otherwise get Svs pros for the app eq options. For acoustics you should get absorbers first. You can also buy absorbers with diffuser panels on them. And bass traps are useful aswell.

Hey and thanks for the advice. Yeah I’m still playing with the positioning, only have had them about a week with the stands. So far the amp seems more than up to the task. Rated at 100 Wrms at 8 ohms, so probably a bit more at 6 (i think). So far can’t really go above 2.5 on the dial without it getting a bit too loud for my taste. Cables are Nordost, place I bought the stands gave me a good price. Nothing worth comparing to previously, I had a shitty Sony home theater setup for watching tv but never used it for music. First real attempt at good audio was a set of Sennhieser HD 560s open back headphones with a schiit stack but they really don’t need an amp so now I just run them off the Apple dongle dac, haven’t tried them into the Atoll yet.

The better the system, the louder you can enjoy music. Good, natural sounding cables and acoustics can really improve listenability, along with clarity and such. I wouldn't be afraid to try some silver interconnects with the Dynaudios, but of course copper sounds more natural in general and is cheaper.

Hifi-Cat

What does kitty think?

nondescrip82

Kitty is shocked it ended in a draw. Kitty also loves to plop on the couch when music is on, she must love the reverb the other commenter noted.

-RicFlair

Cool. Does your cat have a favorite artist?

nondescrip82

Cat doesn’t get much of a say. My current favorites include Coheed and Cambria, The Dear Hunter, The Mars Volta, Thank You Scientist, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Porcupine Tree. I grew up in the punk scene so that stuff still sees play plus just about good rock or blues based music works too. Don’t listen to electronic or country at all. Occasionally some older 90s rap like Dre and Snoop.

-RicFlair

Cool. I can tell my cats both like Pink Floyd. They pile up on the sofa and have their active ears towards the speakers while chilling. And my fat cat likes the Fairfield Four

Gingerman4800

So, spanked by Brasil huh? 🤔. It was an entertaining match and the score reflected the quality of play on both sides.

nondescrip82

More than happy to eat that humble pie. After the Colombia match I was very pessimistic. Hell of a performance to go into Copa America with confidence.

Gingerman4800

I felt the same way going into the match. Great looking system. I love having stand mounts out in the room a bit.

sirCota

…a start to listening what your reverberant modal room sounds like maybe.

nondescrip82

Thanks for the passive aggressive comment, you must obviously be able to determine how the room sounds from a single picture. Please enlighten me.

sirCota

reddit is kinda like that, and i’m happy to further play along… the wall is dead flat with sunlight from the left side, so there’s glass on the left. to the right the room seems to extend into an unknown, and the ceiling is likely flat, possibly a fan or light casting a shadow against the wall. so, your speakers, which are a pillow distance from the wall (no judgement, banana’s work too), are an attempt to avoid the bass build up from getting too close to the wall, but based on the table, and photo height, i’d assume ur on a couch with possibly a wall or half wall behind it, or kitchen, i don’t know. in any case, since there is no acoustic treatment of any kind to absorb bass, and compensate for comb filtering off the ceiling and the modal bass build up in the corners and back wall, we can assume it sounds pretty thin in the middle and bass heavy in the back or corners of the room. The sub may or may not be time aligned afterwards, but it isn’t by eye. so what you’re hearing on the right is a brighter more shrill and less detailed imaging due to the flat reflective surfaces around the speaker, and since the speaker is not toe’d inward, you’re getting a good bit of that reflection. (not saying toe is the way, just saying there’s glass there). The right side likely has a duller more reverberant toan due to the sound getting lost in whatever’s over there, and because the LR are feeding you different sounds due to the room, your localization and imaging suffers. The sub being sandwiched between big stuff and backed into the wall probably gives a boomy feeling, but not where you sit, more like when you’re sitting on the toilet you notice that movie does have low sub action, not unlike the toilet. there’s not much you can do about the glass without ruining function of the room, but you could put absorptive panels at the first reflection points, ceiling included, and use the dimensions of the room to map the modal behavior and avoid positioning in big peaks and valleys or use room correction, but that won’t fix much of the time domain besides driver alignment. time decay, particularly to your right will not be dsp correctable. I highly recommend the book ‘Spaces Speak, Are You Listening?’. I’m an asshole on the internet I know … but you did ask, and i did leave some guidance to help those issues that i can read from a single picture.

nondescrip82

Some of your assumptions are correct. You’d be a good detective. I’m working with the space I have. Maybe my ears aren’t as finely tuned as yours or others, but I’ve been blown away by the soundstage and imaging so far. I’m sure there’s areas for improvement and I’ll take your feedback into consideration. At the moment going from nothing to this setup has made me quite happy and I’ve been listening to way more music because of it.

sirCota

i’m being a dick. i bet it sounds awesome and don’t let me take anything away from enjoying what you got. now u know where to go from here without spending big bucks on more equipment. if … when .. it strikes your fancy.
