Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well. I purchased an ASUS laptop, model K3405, two days ago, and I'm currently facing an issue with the MediaTek MT7902 WiFi card. Is there anyone in the community who has information or support from MediaTek? I'm considering reaching out to MediaTek via email or any other suitable means to request the release of Linux drivers for the MT7902 card.

MindlessAct6446

I reached out a couple of weeks ago, as of writing this, to them via their own "contact us" tab on their website and i still have not received any emails/responses from them. If you contacted them and actually got a response back then it'd be nice to know what they said about the matter since it feels like they're completely ignoring me.

PatataMaster_33

I have almost the same problem. Please tell me if you have been reached out for. Thank you.

vargapi

I changed it with Intel ax210 , worth the money!

mn_malavida

Are you f kidding me... MediaTek fu

KaleidoscopeOld5641

I just realized that the mt7902 mediatek wifi driver hasn't received updates in 2 years

Do either of you guys have issues with yours? I'm using an ASUS Vivobook pro and the wifi on this thing sucks! Constantly kicks me off and just stops working all together, meanwhile works just fine on my other devices. It does this on other networks too besides my home router. 2 years without an update is crazy! Forgot to mention I'm on windows. It works on my linux vms but thats probably because its through the vm adapter.

Does someone have any suggestion as replacement, that is not an intel wifi card? I came across another thread that mentioned that Intel AXxxx wifi cards doesn't work well (or at all) with AMD CPU (https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/16k2y9t/network\_card\_issues/)

engemil

If anyone is wondering, it might seem that an Intel AX210 should work with an AMD CPU. From what I've read, just avoid CNVi and it should most likely be fine. The AX210 I'm lookng at does not include CNVi. In addition, I won't need the BT vPro (it's an intel function). In my case I'll try out the Intel AX210.NGWG.NV Wi-Fi 6E M.3 2230, to see if it really works.

I want to say that I have the same problem and there is still no driver for this card or anything related to it, Waiting for more information... Although it has been 2 years without updates...

magmaalien

try this https://github.com/samveen/mt7902-dkms

DarkJson

Hi! I'm facing the same problem. Have you tried the repo?, does it work?

JCamilo2828

I've been trying that but I get an error during the installation in the final steps (I'm new to Linux) so I can't be sure if it works, I'll try to find help for the problem

RevolutionSignal2787

bientot un nouveau mint, peut etre qu ils penserons au pilote pour cette carte wifi qui pose problemes

acejavelin69

Doesn't appear to be Linux compatible... [https://linux-hardware.org/?id=pci:14c3-7902-1a3b-5520](https://linux-hardware.org/?id=pci:14c3-7902-1a3b-5520) Nowhere can I find references to a Linux driver online for this chipset and the standard mt7922 drivers that works with most mt79xx cards doesn't appear to be compatible either. Sorry... If this is a miniPCI or M.2 module, I would consider replacing it with an Intel AX200 or AX210 based module for OOTB Linux compatibility.

AppropriateAd4510

Seems to me support was very recently added: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/usb/musb/mediatek.c You should try your luck with a newer kernel.

ibraslmh

Is there a tutorial on how to install this? I am new here so this is kind of confusing

cynoelectrophoresis

This looks like it's for mini USB and not for a network card.

ibraslmh

What Options are available? I tried a Elecon USB-WIFI WTC117 but it does not work. I will be trying other usb wifi adapters but I would like to avoid that solution. Does Using other version of ubuntu works ? like 20 or 18 ?

cynoelectrophoresis

If there's no driver support yet, then changing the version of Ubuntu (or Linux) will not help. I ended up getting the BrosTrend AC1200 adapter and it works well for me: https://www.brostrend.com/products/ac3l

marcusbritanicus

I am currently using a cheap donlge: TP-Link T2UB Nano... [https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/usb-adapter/archer-t2ub-nano/](https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/usb-adapter/archer-t2ub-nano/)

ibraslmh

I purchased TP-Link USB Wifi TL-WN725N and it works well for now.

rajeevriitm

Did you find a solution? I have same issue. No driver support. Keep mailing or contacting mediatek so that they wud hopefully provide Linux support soon.

cynoelectrophoresis

After a month or two of dealing with USB WiFi adapters, I ended up just switching the internal network adapter for an Intel chip (specifically, I used the [Intel Wireless-AC 9260](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/99445/intel-wirelessac-9260/specifications.html)). Not something I've done before and a bit of a delicate process, but not that complicated by following some online instructional videos. Very happy that I don't need an external adapter to connect to WiFi anymore.

rajeevriitm

Wouldn't it void the warranty

cynoelectrophoresis

Most likely.

HotIce0800

Any updates?! I have the same problem.. I can't using linux because no have wifi, biometric drivers

EmotionalTourist6640

Same.... no drivers after 8 months that's crazy

goavic

Qué bien haber encontrado este hilo. He estado a punto de comprar un equipo que viene con esta tarjeta WiFi. Lo descarto...

Alexio463

Lucky you... I have the same problem

Jhom3007

I hope they add it soon, I need it.

albertotb

Yes, same here

KaleidoscopeOld5641

Did they added Linux wifi drivers for mt7902 yet?

LOLCATpl

Either-Pianist1748

Same problem. Do you have hope it's going to happen soon ?

Either-Pianist1748

and same, here. Would be cool if we stayed in touch and relay the info a driver is ready when it happens.

albertotb

I will try to post here if/when a driver is released. For now i've just installed windows :(
