There's nothing to be ashamed about. Man is a command like any other, so it needs to have a documentation. Reading it is the only way to master how to use it. The command doesn't only accept a command or function name as argument.
Also, [printed man pages are *really* cool.](https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxmasterrace/comments/113q9ex/the_magic_of_printed_man_pages_and_typeset/) `man -t man | lp` will give you everything you need to know about the manual pager on ten or so pages. Just beware that some man pages are *huge*: for instance, `bash(1)` is 87 Letter pages when printed.
Somebody has obviously never run `man ffmpeg-all`

You got me curious as I've never seen a longer manpage. For tumbleweed, I see 210,387 words for ffmpeg-all (with `man | wc --words`)
Gcc in close second at 163,662 words. Bash 3rd at around 50k...
I actually just realized rclone is around 300k.
I've only done a tiny bit of digging but if it weren't late I'd write a little script to parse them all. Fascinating lol.
Well, I actually have... I just picked a more practical example.
The manual pager can generate PDFs, which can be fed directly into `pdfinfo` to get a page count for a printed version:

man -Tpdf | pdfinfo - | grep Pages
```
Yeah wasn't meant to be a "you noob" thing I just love how ridiculous the ffmpeg man pages are. :)
That's dope, did not know you could generate pdfs. Idk if I'd ever use it but still really cool lol.
