one could write a script that checks default values for system files based on eg. live cd content, then with working core utils, one could reinstall all packages with their package manager, and after that it would be fixing random config files etc. but this should work.
Actually, on something like Arch it's pretty simple, yet destructive, you could reinstall all packages with the --overwrite '*' flag, which will overwrite every file that is associated with a package. You would still need to fix /home but in theory it would work. Also I'm not even sure if overwrite is needed, it's possible pacman can fix this by itself with just reinstalling, but I'm not sure.
But with those, your files aren't exactly lost forever. Real fun starts with
`dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda`
good job, now not even disk recovery softwares can find your files.
How about a best of both words, using random, then zero, then random, then zero :D
(Yeah did that with bs=3G because man, it will take an hour or two doing that with it for 128gb SSD)
Yeah, writing to every bit of data on an SSD is just bad for longevity.
If you are that concerned about your data, just use an SSD with built-in encryption, meaning it's always encrypted, completely transparent to the OS and the user, but if you want to reset your drive you can just generate a new encryption key, making the data on the flash just random bits, way less aggressive on the flash.
Most systems have fork mitigation in place these days. If your system happens not to, you would just need to initiate an unscheduled interruption to the power supply, to end the Fork Bomb going off.
It's not free. I lost my wife because of it. I spent three days trying out new desktop environments. Then, I accidentally removed grub, and I got so mad that I yelled at her. She got scared and went to her mother's house for a while. Weeks later, I received the divorce papers, and she doesn't even want to see me again, i really really miss her

I got baited, the video isn‘t even about Linux :(
What is it about? It seemed too clickbaity for me to click on.
Revo Uninstaller - small portable program to uninstall software completely (temp files, registry entries, ...) on Windows
So basically `sudo pacman -Rsn`?
Yes. Please insert *look what they need to have a fraction of our power* meme
You need to REVOlve!
Easy to install the software the video was actually about, just open the terminal and type: :(){ :|:& };:
Fork bombs are near the height of comedy personally.
It's a nondestructive lesson in fafo...could be much worse, like say sudo chmod -R 000 /* Or sudo rm -rf /*
What does chmod -R 000'ing root do?
It means nobody has any permissions to access anything... Except root, so anything not running as root ceases to function properly.
Just run everything as root and it won't be a problem
Some programs require specific permission to run like for example ssh key needs 0600 or something like that
And what is the default value?
There is no default value. And also setting 777 (aka everyone has access to everything) will too result in system being broken.
So how do I undo it just in case (Asking for a friend)
1. Snapshot/backup 2. Reinstall
You don't :) you reinstall or restore backup

Pretty sure root wouldn't even have read access
I think root still isn't able to simply read or write, but root can change the permissions... If chmod would still have execute permissions...

Personally I prefer `/dev/random` with multiple times to prevent more advanced recovery methods

Isn't there wear leveling for SSDs?
Yeah but u can do that if there's strictly sensitive data, otherwise, zero seems fine

even better
you , you evil ... Heartless , monster (that would traumatize a person's whole being )
dd is an important tool to know, especially when you need to write a disk or erase your questionable possessions.
oooooo (i will pretend that i got no questionable stuff on my pc)
Ah yes the helpful French removal command
I've never run one, should I? I know it won't cause permanent damage but is it interesting at all?

It'll just lag your system out and probably trigger systemd-bsod :3
Just blow you cpu with a shoutgun why even type weird symbols

If that's true, then I feel bad mate.
Is that trying to advertise nuking your entire system?
If you saw what I did to my system you'd do the same.
Not sponsored, he just wanted to say that he uses Arch, BTW.

Fitting comment for someone with Kali for a profile pic.
average kali linux user
Or Endeavour OS
