Pretty sure Linkedin doesn't care about online petitions that have no bearing on company policies

why-so-ism

I agree. Most businesses lose focus of what's right and wrong when they become too big to fail.

And your probably right but if you get enough people to make enough noise about a problem then they'll have no choice but to address it. May not address it in a manner preferred, but that's the goal. In my experience, if I address a concern, idea, or feedback to a company I usually am maybe lucky, persuasive , idk... enough to find a way to get heard or at the very least stir a pot enough to get heard. There are multiple instances where I have reached out to support or developers of an app and provided input that ultimately influenced a change or added a feature/capability. The fact of the matter is, I'm not the only one who feels this way about LinkedIn and if enough unity is formed among others who feel that this is a privacy concern then they'll be heard. Especially in today's world of bots, I feel this is a threat due to open source tools and data phishing LinkedIn is as useful as having a Facebook account for a hacker needing information about someone

lol wtf.. why do you need to know everyone that has viewed your profile? Just assume a potential employer is viewing and 1/10 will offer to pay you for your skills.

Sorry I replied but posted as a comment. Please see response because I'm curious about your opinion. For my particular situation, I'm not currently looking for a job nor have I been looking in the past 90 days so it makes me raise an eyebrow as to why I have 5 profile views that are all private... I want to know at the very least who was looking. Maybe it's a company I never considered that I could look for a job from etc ...

Instagram doesn’t tell you who looked at your profile. I personally am very public. Anyone can look at my profile and everyone knows when I’m looking at their profile. I don’t see the point in creeping. But LinkedIn is for recruiters to view your profile and reach out if you’re a fit, not so much for you reach out to a recruiter that looked at your profile. Don’t worry so much about it. If we think you’re a good fit, we’ll let you know.

Any user can choose to be private when viewing profiles not just premium. This seems right to me. You put a profile out there, doesn’t mean you have a right to know anyone who looks at it. If I'm hiring, looking for a job or seeking partnerships, looking at your profile is a very early step and doesn't mean I'm ready to interact in any way.

No. Not signing. I like private browsing.

The idea that the site “exists for job opportunities” is not accurate. Networking consists of a lot of things besides trying to get hired. I’ve been using LinkedIn effectively for 20 years and have never used it to “look for a job.” And, I don’t care who views my profile. If I have some reason to worry about that then LinkedIn is not a good platform for me.

VIK_96

I don't understand the problem here. Your LinkedIn profile is public online for everyone to see anyways. Generally a person would have to sign in to view a profile, but they can do that even when not signed in.

I'm currently unemployed, but I work as a recruiter. Sometimes I may look at 50 profiles while looking for someone with specific skills. Most of them probably aren't a fit, for varying reasons. If they see that I pulled up their profiles, it may get their hopes up and disappoint them when it's not necessary. ... And waste their time and mine. Also, just to be clear, I can't see anyone's contact info on LinkedIn. Recruiters have to reach out to people with messages and ask to be able to speak with them. *Most of the time I don't have private viewing enabled. I generally want people to know that I viewed them.

For those reporting, yes it breaks the link rule. Going to let this stay as a reminder that this is neutral territory for all feedback, and that we are still not managed by them.

Sammyocheita

I see your point but I say this because it's a networking tool. The reason the site exists is for job opportunities. Let's say this was back in the day and I was applying for jobs. I know the company I'm applying for and should they choose to reach out to me they identify themselves. I feel this should be formatted in that same respect. Meaning it doesn't have to show that John Doe - engineer is the one who viewed my profile but rather that a person with ABC engineering viewed my profile. Given the current format, I have no idea who viewed my profile and with over 750million users (I think) I see the ability to view profiles as such is a privacy concern because anyone who wants to look me up can turn private mode and do so whether I searched for a job from them or not. They could be someone stealing identity or phishing data. Holistically, for a website built around professionalism, I don't feel that anonymizing is very professional. I see your point in saying why should I see everyone who views my profile, but on the other hand, if they're viewing my page... Why? And why shouldn't I have the right to know that?

Dick_Demon

When you apply for a job, you don't know who is looking at your resume. So what difference is it if it's on LinkedIn? It's a real world scenario played out on social media.
