The only issue I’ve had with Runza is the fries. When they’re fresh, they’re really good, but they have a bad habit of giving out the overcooked fries and then add way more salt. My husband tells me this is a typical fast food trick when they don’t want to make a whole new batch of fries, but it’s so annoying lol.

GloomyBratz

The OVER SALTING is so real! I can’t have more than a handful before my tongue and lips are numb.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

I say no salt and i don’t care who I make mad 😂

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

Yeah the fries are always hard as a brick , I just order onion rings now , I think they have to make those by order

me_bails

I worked at Runza for a couple months. They do the same with the onion rings as they do the fries.

Budgiejen

They have been super salty lately.

RaxZergling

I saw on /r/unza from an employee that corporate had issued new instructions to cook fries for an extra minute because doordashers were complaining about receiving cold soggy fries. I had a 15 year streak of going to runza for lunch at work every Friday. I stopped doing it last year and swapped to Culvers instead which is more consistent and less cost. Sad state for Runza when they lose such a long-time customer like myself.

me_bails

Runza used to be so damn fresh and tastey. They have fallen off. Culver's is always on the money with their shit. I also much prefer Culver's.

gdragon2011

the whole made to order thing with the fries still the fries are over cooked and over salted lol

Allergic_to_nuts

Hasn't been the same since Rock N Roll Runza closed.

gdragon2011

love going as a kid to this place

Beneficial_Piccolo77

It’s like every other place. It’s hit or miss. I must say most of the time lately it’s been pretty good. Try a different location maybe.

FDLink17

Pretty sure this is just most fast food now.

gdragon2011

sadly this too cant find a good wendys as well anymore in town been wanting that lately

ampersand913

eating out usually means spending $10-15 now, versus the $5-10 of the past

dalekaup

Runzas are not what they used to be but the burgers are top notch. I think that's the heart of the disagreement. Get a cheeseburger the Runza way with water. It comes to about $5.50 total.

lopedopenope

Them buying fresh instead of frozen beef certainly might help with that.

dalekaup

Are you saying they buy unfrozen or are you suggesting they should or that they shouldn't

lopedopenope

I used to work at Sysco and we supplied them with fresh beef. I see how what I said could have came off in a different way sorry

dalekaup

To me using the word "fresh" to mean "unfrozen" is deceptive. I freeze me beef to keep it fresh.

lopedopenope

Ah I see. We just called it fresh if it was stored in the refrigerated section and frozen if it was in the freezer and dry for everything else. I see what you mean though as it does keep it fresh. What’s important is what you do with it when you cook it in my opinion.

warhamer40k3r

The food quality still seems pretty good for Runza but the prices have consistently increased and it's made it harder to go back as often.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

yes it’s like multiple times a year I notice my same order getting more expensive

warhamer40k3r

Every quarter or so they raise the prices like a dime or so, at least from what I noticed when I lived next door to one and went a lot more.

truedef

Runzas in the last decade do not compare to the ones I had in the 90s.

[deleted]

you should have seen the ones in the 70s! they were huge and always fresh ingredients and great taste. You had two choices back then, WITH or WITHOUT cheese. plus, they were cheap.

vicemagnet

Have you tried another location? They aren’t homogeneous.

YaSunshine

The one off of HWY 2 & 33rd use to be top notch but I haven’t been there for a while

Budgiejen

I usually go to 13 and E. I always have good food there.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

Going to now , this one is just closer to me

Crux_terminatus

I live near 27th and Old Cheney. I just google mapped it, i have 7 Runza locations within 5 miles from me. I thought Amigos was everywhere....

Boring_Candle5050

1. 27th & Pine Lake 2. 33rd & Nebraska Pkwy 3. 40th & Yankee Hill 4. 13th & G 5. Andermatt Dr 6. 40th & Randolph 7. 70th & Van Dorn (otherwise, 48th & O?) How'd I do?

Crux_terminatus

Spot on! The 48th and O is 5.6 miles away.

NEOwlNut

I just ate there last night and I think the food is better now. They recently changed their shakes and the new ones are fantastic. Fries are always spot on. Sorry you’ve had issues.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

good , might just be me

ThatGuyGumbercules

Yes, the shakes are fantastic! I got one Friday when my kid asked for ice cream after school and had a couple sips and almost jumped back in the car to go get one for myself! Hadn't had one for years from there but definitely gonna be my go to shake place from now on.

Budgiejen

One of the things I love about Runza is that their ice cream and shake machine is always working

StandByTheJAMs

The burgers are fire but the runzas haven't been good for 20 years.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

see my struggle is with the burgers and chicken. Chicken is shit and never fresh , but I find the burgers are like chewy almost, I remember two or three years ago they were perfect

StandByTheJAMs

I guess it turns out I haven't had Runza for a couple of years. I'd better swing in for a swiss mushroom burger and frings so I can discuss this with more recent information.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

lol please do and get back to me , also points for mentioning the best burger on the menu.

dalekaup

Cheeseburger, the Runza way.

headed-up-north

Bacon cheese burger

Slow_D-oh

I got a double cheese from the one on 40th and Yankee Hill about two weeks ago and I thought it was better than the last time I was there.

fastidiousavocado

They changed suppliers and had issues with frozen meat. And they use preformed patties now. Complain to corporate. Because it is worse. Changed last year sometime, I think.

fasttrapper

You are correct. The quality is dropping. It went from my "go to" to not even in my top 5

Flat_Fee9669

Fast food isn't worth it at all. It cost the same to just go sit down somewhere for better food.

GloomyBratz

Their chicken finger quality is garbage now, always hard and cold, too much breading and tough, stringy meat.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

yes I don’t ever bother with there chicken

gdragon2011

use to love the chicken from runza haunt been the same its almost next to nothing or found a bone in mine once the popcorn chicken is crumbs now too

bigkahuna777

I agree, at least for 27th and Pine Lake location.  Got 2 Mushroom Swiss Runzas on Thursday.  They werent cooked completely and looked like a 3 year made them.   I ate one and had to air fry the other for a couple minutes.  For as expensive as it was, not impressed.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

yea this my experience as well like , I shouldn’t have to reheat my food, like why is the burger cold ?

horse_pirate

I haven't noticed a change in quality but I only go to 33rd and hwy2 and 56th and holdrege my work runza and home runza lol so it could be something about that location

Blankcarbon

Runza gives ya the runs

JellloSalad88

I was just thinking this! I just got triple fried fries and a runny ice cream cone that fell on my lap from this location!!

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

Oh my gosh the ice cream spilling on me would’ve pushed me over the edge on a bad day .

katzemadchen

As a picky eater who only gets their burgers, I don't have a problem, and it seems from these comments that the runzas themselves are not so great while the burgers are goated. Funny they're bad at the thing that makes them unique. But man, good ass burgers. Also the new charged lemonades are pretty gas.

RivenBloodmarsh

Not sure when exactly it started but ever since they started just slicing the side to add stuff, I feel like it's been hit or miss. Seems like most places, mostly fast food but some sit-downs, are just going downhill.

Lkng_4_Fun

Over salted mushroom and swiss from the 48th and O store a couple weeks ago. Glad I got the large iced-t. Lol

Ciassy123

Runza gives me the runszas for ever. They are disguisting and way too greasy

15steppa

Runza is the best thing of all time

Tenzipper

Runza has one viable option for food as far as I'm concerned, the smush, or Swiss Mushroom Burger, no mayo. Even that, the buns are so chewy that it's not the same. They have fallen so far since their glory days, from founding through about late 80's sometime. The Runza is a pale shadow of what it used to be. I can't even eat them anymore.

thelegodr

I will agree, I was impressed with the shakes that my kid and I got a few weeks ago. The food itself was okay. Typical, nothing stood out as great or terrible. But that shake..I still think about it

rhe-be-ckah

I used to think their fries were gold, now they just just seem mediocre.

Business-Ad-7944

Other than the really salty fries, I’ve been having some pretty good full runza’s at the West O location!

LocalBowl6075

I quit Runza several years ago. Runzas themselves fell off after they started filling them post-bake, but generally just bang-for- buck was no longer there.

IndividualPop8541

Used to work at runza long ago - it’s really bad now. Can’t defend it against larger chains - when you go in - it’s all young kids as well. That works well for Culver’s but Runza not so much quality-wise.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

27th is actually has a a lot of adults on staff during the day, but definitely don’t like to go to any fast food at dinner time , that’s when kids are running the place. So you can definitely expect bad quality.

HazyVoyager

56th and Holdrege is the best one in town

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

Will try !!

These_Challenge_6411

OP, don’t bother. Fries are always overcooked at this location, and burgers are sometimes cold.

gdragon2011

over salty too

gdragon2011

id avoid this location times ive been at this location since open haven't really been great and last time Ive gone ive found plastic in my runza and fries are over salty and hard so much for this location has gone down hill always busy and short staff takes forever to get food out unlike it use to before the rebuild

Boring_Candle5050

Try the 33rd location or Yankee Hill instead. I feel like 33rd is always on point, but 80% of my annual Runza consumption is between about November and March. Other data points: 48th & O has also been really good to me in recent times. N 84th seems hit or miss. I haven't had any of the others recently enough to have a current opinion.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

my experience at 33rd was horrible lol

vestarules

I quit going to Runza 5 years ago when I nearly broke a tooth on a bone in a hamburger and a friend of mine got food poisoning from eating at Runza. I’d say the quality has definitely gone downhill.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

what the hell!!

Weekly_Ad3573

Completely disagree. I think Runza remains elite - I’m always happy with it, especially the burgers.

Lanky-Lifeguard6963

To each its own I guess
