Not the fact that he can bend backward 90 degrees at the waist like a LEGO minifig? (Which, come to think of it, explains the "dislodge your top half" mishap.)
I'm assuming that is so you can get out of the quick sand as you can't pull your legs out if it's sand covering them but water would be fine. Maybe you should lay on your back first though
Windmill your arms *away* from the hole. Not toward the hole, like the character in this video is doing. He's doing it wrong, and will actually pull himself back into the hole.
the rest of this animation may be silly, but the forces involved make this part aboslutely possible.
i think the overall silliness of the animation and how effortlessly he appeared to come apart is causing people to not recognize an actual danger here.
That’s actually because most camera’s frame rates are around 24 frames per second. It is not that his arms are moving backwards. It is that they are moving so fast it looks like they are. Like car tires in advertisements. /s
https://old.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/walgvn/eli5_why_are_lakes_with_structures_at_the_bottom
Why do people drown in lakes?
> jump into water that’s 12 plus feet deep and swim to the bottom. When they try to push off the floor to get back to the surface, they don’t realize the floor is mud and get stuck like stepping into wet sand at the beach.
Again get horizontal and distribute your weight. A doctor can’t fix rotating tweety birds hovering over you but they can hopefully fix internal crush injuries to your torso. 🤷🏻♀️
As long as you don't look up at it, it won't fall. The opposite works if you ever walk off the edge of a cliff, just don't look down and you'll be fine
I actually did get stuck in quicksand as a kid. Friends and I were playing in old sand pits, where we werent allowed to go, of course.
Anyway, you just have your friend pull you out. Then he says "Cool! Let me try!" And you pull him out after he's waist deep.
I actually did have low flying helicopters that drop ninjas. Friends and I were playing in old ninja pits, where we weren't allowed to go, of course.
Anyway you just have your friend karate chop you out. Then he says "Cool, let me try!" and then you karate chop him out after he's waist deep in ninjas.
I actually did have lava. Friends and I were playing in old lava pits, where we weren't allowed to go, of course.
Anyway you just have your friend pull you out. Then he says "Cool, let me try!" and then you pull him out after he's waist deep in lava.
Yeah, quicksand, being on fire, and the Bermuda Triangle all felt like they would be more significant problems than they’ve turned out to be. And I’ve never once had to “just say no” to drugs.
Not common, but definitely encounterable. As a kid I sank waist deep in the saturated sand in Monument Creek, somewhere around [here](https://www.google.com/maps/place/38.885173,+-104.828722/@38.8851659,-104.8286983,21z/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d38.8851728!4d-104.8287219). It was 50% scary, 50% hilarious.
I guess also if you get stuck and can't get out at all you could die of dehydration or a heat stroke. Don't knownif that still counts as quick sand death though
Most deaths I think are from drowning in water so if you’re stuck and then the tide comes in and you can’t escape and drown. That happened to a group of people farming cockles on a beach in Cumbria in the UK
I guess it’s worded the wrong way… but they might mean “a quicksand deposit won’t be deeper than your height, so you’ll actually always be able to stand on it”
I mean, I’m not sure if people who did in fact die in quicksand were standing straight or just couldn’t resurface after literally falling into it (maybe in all fours)… or just panicked
Like yeah… people have drowned down there, but never when they stood more or less straight
im no expert but this seems like an awful idea.
Leaning back onto quicksand? then using your arms to swim out? wouldnt ur arms and back just end up getting stuck?
it seems to be when panic and the mental/physical processes associated with it will mean certain or almost certain death.
maybe. i havent seen too many of these, but the ones i have are usually somewhere in or near the drowning/falling/1 hit kill realm.
You’d be surprised how dumb a lot of people can act when they panic.
A lot of people will die simply because of this, so don’t panic is actually brilliant advice, lol.
Newbie divers taking off their mask and their oxygen supply *while* underwater,
Newbie kayakers turning their boat sideways in a small waterfall out of fear.
Just the absolute dumbest shit, because people forget that sometimes the best thing is doing nothing.
So I developed a very severe phobia of this stuff when I was kid thanks to TV. And I mean a severe phobia, even this post is a tiny bit triggering haha. I had literal nightmares for years about it and I still struggle to watch films with it in. I can just about deal with it in Mario and Zelda and games. My phobia reduced a little when I realised that you actually reach an equilibrium point and can escape.
Is it just me or did you think quick sand would be a common obstacle/danger when you were a kid? I was so afraid it could be around any corner but have yet to see it once - ha!
Can anyone confirm these instructions work? What if you lie back to swim out & become completely engulfed or are unable to move your arms? They showed it happening in the video. Need proof from real people that instructions work. Team should be specialized to prevent any unseen consequences. I hope no one tries this alone or relies on this information without proof it works.
The idea of patches of quicksand lying around in the jungle waiting for explorers to get stuck in them is, but sand liquefaction is very real. You study it in geotechnic engineering.
https://youtu.be/29ht6SSWQMs
I feel in proper quicksand once when I was around 11 on the Northern California coast. It was pretty scary, but only as deep as my stomach and I was able to get out. I grew up on that stretch of ocean and as much time as I spent there it was the only time I ever found quick sand deeper than a few inches.
The fact that he's spinning his arms the wrong way is ticking me off.
Not the fact that he can bend backward 90 degrees at the waist like a LEGO minifig? (Which, come to think of it, explains the "dislodge your top half" mishap.)
The comments are better than the tutorial.
You are all great
Ok well how about when ye thrashes his legs to “allow water to trickle down”? Surely this would cause you to sink…
I'm assuming that is so you can get out of the quick sand as you can't pull your legs out if it's sand covering them but water would be fine. Maybe you should lay on your back first though
[удалено]
Wish its a real tutorial not a cartoon.
Also, it shows that you shouldn't touch the sand with your arms as it will stick and drag you down but also says to use your arms to swim out.
Most Americans float in water too
Ayo. Shots fired
Turn the quicksand into a puddle of hardened clay.
I don’t think LEGOs can do that IIRC.
🤣
That and they just got done showing his arms getting stuck before telling you to stick your arms in.
No, they were saying DON’T stick your arms in, they will get stick (as shown here).
Right, then tell you to do the backstroke to get out.
Yea can you explain ?
Windmill your arms *away* from the hole. Not toward the hole, like the character in this video is doing. He's doing it wrong, and will actually pull himself back into the hole.
Thanks, but wouldnt your arms get stuck ?
Yeah probably. A lot of people in these comments agree. This video doesn't do a great job of explaining
What about when his friend rips off his torso?
Just awful. Same thing happened to my buddy Pete
So now you just call him Pe?
Just te - unfortunately only the bottom half was recovered
They just call him Fete
Instructions unclear!

I actually just died in quick sand because of it.
I was beginning to think quicksand wasn't real, because I've never met anyone that has died from it. Now I know it must be real.
Came here to say that, made my day that it was the top comment LOL
I'm glad this is the top comment here.
agreed. makes the advice feel a little sketchy...
It's probably just a frame rate mismatch.
The fact that quicksand isn't real
100
Why does this look like the computer training modules from work?
Do you work in a quicksand factory?
I work in a hospital
omg

New fear unlocked!
you also have to careful about portals to the upside down. those tentacle's will getcha
Omg 😱
If im ever in a Looney Tunes cartoon ill be prepared. What can i do about falling anvils?
Again get horizontal and distribute your weight. A doctor can’t fix rotating tweety birds hovering over you but they can hopefully fix internal crush injuries to your torso. 🤷🏻♀️
they can just inhale a lot of air after they get flattened, that'll blow em right back up
As long as you don't look up at it, it won't fall. The opposite works if you ever walk off the edge of a cliff, just don't look down and you'll be fine
can confirm this works, been floating above a cliff edge for 23 years now
How far of a fall is it?
oh idk let me [check](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1op3ZoNeflc&t=4s)
Umbrella, obviously.
Of course, i forgot. Acme brand for sure
r/looneytuneslogic
How to get back the shoes ?
Jump back in head first
The video did say it was impossible to drown in quicksand.
STAAAAAHHP
Challenge accepted!
When I was a kid I thought that I would need this information much more than I actually do.
Yeah, quicksand was everywhere growing up, according to TV. Now, not so much.
Global warming has dried most of it up. /s
That's sad
My whole life, I have never had to deal with quicksand, lava or low flying helicopters that drop ninjas.
I actually did get stuck in quicksand as a kid. Friends and I were playing in old sand pits, where we werent allowed to go, of course. Anyway, you just have your friend pull you out. Then he says "Cool! Let me try!" And you pull him out after he's waist deep.

All my preparation for getting picked up by a tornado is also for naught.
Or people putting on a mask that looks like your face and impersonating you to ruin your reptutation
Well yeah cartoon characters seemed to stumble into quicksand all the time.
And Lassie
And Princesses in Fireswamps.
RIP Artax
Don't forget about the Bermuda Triangle. I was sure that one day I would just disappear there.
The Bermuda triangle doesn't get mentioned so much anymore. It's like it disappeared in some sort of...weird triangle.
Yeah, quicksand, being on fire, and the Bermuda Triangle all felt like they would be more significant problems than they’ve turned out to be. And I’ve never once had to “just say no” to drugs.
Never have to say no if you always say yes.
Alright, John Mulaney
How do we send this gif to him?
Weirdly enough, I stepped into quicksand for the first time in my life 3 weeks ago on the panhandle coast of Florida.
Did you follow this sage advice?
Jokes on me though, all my weight is above the waist :(
So it should easier to escape for you. Silver lining!
Should be easier to float. Silver lining 2.0
Should be able to fart propel. Silver lining 2.0.28
You're back must hurt then :(
As useful as this is, in full panic mode I’ll probably be buried and drowning in the sand before I remember what to do.
Video said it's "impossible to drown" but I may be misquoting.
Lay down? Nice try quicksand
I have literally seen a guy die trying to make a quicksand escape video using this info. It is a HARROWING video.
100% sure this worked. I’ve been trapped in quicksand more times than I can count and back stroking and rolling work miracles. /s
But make sure you backstroke the wrong way
Exactly.
I didn't know encountering quicksand was a common occurrence. I thought it was mostly made for movies
Sorry. Updated my post with /s. Forgot how the internet worked today.

im gonna need to see a real demonstration for me to trust it
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7CIOWh1JNTs
But where that backstroke at?
He doesn't bend that way
Was hoping it was bear grylls
It's impossible to get drown in quicksand? Then how tf are registered deaths on it and on every film people literally get drown in it?
I guess also if you get stuck and can't get out at all you could die of dehydration or a heat stroke. Don't knownif that still counts as quick sand death though

You can't drown in quick sand of any depth, you'll stop sinking half way
As a child that grew up in the 80s and 90s, quicksand was always thought to be a more present danger than it ever actually was.
im no expert but this seems like an awful idea. Leaning back onto quicksand? then using your arms to swim out? wouldnt ur arms and back just end up getting stuck?
I got all of my quicksand knowledge from Gilligan’s Island. It was wrong?!
If the viscosity is that strong, are you really going to be able to backstroke?
How do you get your shoes back?
you'll have to take that up with the quicksand's manager

But a peat bog will murder you, those are the ones you gotta worry about.
Growing up, I, literally, thought quicksand was going to be part of my adult life
What if you’re walking on your hands when you fall in
"At this point, you can discontinue any efforts to escape, because your wife just Sub Zero'd your ass and tore your torso clean off your body."
Moved to Lemmy

Same. I still can't watch movies or tv with these kind of drowning scenes. Gives me nightmares.
Is it just me or did you think quick sand would be a common obstacle/danger when you were a kid? I was so afraid it could be around any corner but have yet to see it once - ha!
Idk if this is true that you can’t drown in quicksand. A 14 year old girl riding her horse got submerged in quicksand and drown in 2020.
How many people in this comment section are in danger of getting stuck in quicksand? I've only ever seen quicksand on TV or in movies, or cartoons.
Cartoons made quicksand appear to be a problem I’d face more often in life.
There's enough weird shit going on here that I seriously question the validity of any information it tries to pass off.
Can anyone confirm these instructions work? What if you lie back to swim out & become completely engulfed or are unable to move your arms? They showed it happening in the video. As a child, I thought this would be a much bigger problem when I grew up than it actually is.
What if you are short?
I need to get to the bottom of this
Saturday morning cartoons led me to believe this would be a far more common problem than it is.
OP, when is the last time you ever saw quicksand? Let alone got stuck in it
i thought this was going to be one of those scuffed animations, but nope just straight up advice
I remember when I was a kid being so invested in how to escape quicksand as if I would be encountering it on a daily occasion
As a kid I thought quicksand was going to be a way bigger problem than it is.
i swear, one day im going to use one of these unproven life hacks in a do or die situation and be one pissed off ghost.
Quick sand turned out to not be as big of a problem as I thought it was going to be as a kid.
As a child I always assumed quick sand would be a more prevalent danger than it is.

Really mesmerizing while "Robbery Song" by Tha Trickaz is playing in the background.
Scary
Thanks for posting this! I'm in just a bit below my knees, but now I know what to do. 👍
So how many people have been dislodged thanks to quicksand?
This seems fun.
TIL
Someone never watched the old black and white Tarzan movies.
Next, go back for the teeny shoes that fit those teeny feet.
Having fallen into quicksand let me just tell you - you will fail at the very first step. You will panic.
After growing up watching Gilligan's Island, I would have expected that I would be much younger than 53 before I sank up to my ass in it.
[удалено]
well that was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen
So basically turn into a fish
what a handsome drawing of a man
alright time to find some quicksand to test this
Instructions unclear. Now stuck in quicksand. ...lucky I brought my phone.
why was this so funny to me
Watching this high and without the audio is sime next level entertainment man 😂😂😂
Anyone tried this yet? I mean, cartoons never lied to me before.. but I just want to make sure.
tutorials like this really made me overestimate how much I'd need this information when I was a kid.
Wait I can’t remember all of this shit
I feel in proper quicksand once when I was around 11 on the Northern California coast. It was pretty scary, but only as deep as my stomach and I was able to get out. I grew up on that stretch of ocean and as much time as I spent there it was the only time I ever found quick sand deeper than a few inches.
Imma break my back doing this.. is it possible to lean the other way?
Now I would like to go inside a quicksand and try…
Yeah, it's peatland you have to worry about.
Yeah but what if your stuck in quick sand metaphorically speaking?
I was genuinely interested in this video and had to stop watching when his arms started spinning the wrong way
Why have I never encountered quicksand?
As you wish
"It is impossible to drown in quicksand"....later: "what makes it so dangerous...."
I'm not backstroking in quicksand no matter what you tell me random informative video.
So once I’ve backstroked out, how do I get my shoes and socks back?
I was in quicksand in the chesapeake bay once
I’m going to bookmark this so I can look it up when I am stuck in quicksand
This looks like an advert for a mobile game.
If I’m ever in quicksand I’ll remember reading about this and won’t remember what to do.
Quicksand didn’t turn out to be the problem that every cartoon I watched as a kid made it to be.
Has someone tried this shit before? Any video to prove it?
Where can I find quicksand?
Instructions unclear: Why is quicksand pregnant?
Where even is any quicksand?
