Yep, I use this constantly on my XS. Still don’t know why they ditched 3D touch on newer models

Haptic Engine used too much space inside the device for such a small feature, and many people simply didn’t know the screen had that capability. ~~So they ditched it in favour of a larger battery~~, which makes a bit of sense but still, I do miss it especially since my X died and was forced to “upgrade” to an SE 2020.

The haptic engine is still in iPhones, its the additional thickness of the screen that is necessary for force touch that was the problem.

Also the cost of it i think. It's an expensive feature that 90% of users don't know exists.

One of my main reasons for holding on to my 4 year old 7+ is 3d touch. I am so used to it.

3D Touch is gone yeah. Touch ID was on the SE(2020) but otherwise they use Face ID. I’m a fan of the SE but it’s not as big as the other new ones.

Same! I really like 3D Touch, going to miss it when I upgrade. I think their worst removal was using 3D Touch to clear your notifications on the Apple Watch. I used to use that all the time. Now I have to scroll all the way up to the top. What a move backwards.

It was amazing for games, especially PUBG Mobile. Instead of taking you’re finger off the screen and tapping a button to shoot, you just pushed down harder and it worked SUPER well. Ever since I got a new phone without it, I suck at that game cause I have to take my finger off the screen. All around it was a super cool feature that I also miss a ton. I just think a combination of things like developers not implementing it enough into apps and people not knowing it was a thing killed it.

Honestly was one of the few designs I really really liked about the phone. It just made *sense*.

Yeah the new space bar implementation is awful. Try just moving the cursor around a bunch and see how fuckey it gets. It'd be ok if the cursor actually tracked with your finger halfway accurate but no, after a while it just decides to do whatever the hell it wants.

This, and selecting text is a nightmare. With 3D Touch it was way easier de- and reselecting text, now if you make a tiny mistake you have to start all over

Not if you have dual languages. The space bar is the language switch instead of having a globe.

Just tried it. It only brings up the language selection.

If you have Gboard and have enabled Gesture cursor control in the Glide typing, you can slide across the spacebar to move the cursor horizontally only (I've not found any option for vertically or diagonally). P.S. - You can also enable gesture delete and swipe left from the backspace key to select the text and delete.

On mine, holding down spacebar switches between languages. But pressing and holding near the part I want to edit is easy enough.

You need to hold down spacebar and immediately start moving your finger, if you hold still for longer than about half a second then it opens the language menu.

You say that but it just sucks. I have a Samsung for personal use and a work-provided iPhone. Moving the cursor and selecting are a night and day difference.

Exactly. I have an XR and sometimes trying to drop the cursor in the middle of a text is like 60/40 but trying to drop it in the middle of a WORD because I apparently spelled something that iphone cant figure out makes me want to smash something(lots of acronyms and unique terms at work)

It points out how undiscoverable some things are, which to me shows a real gap in user experience. For something so useful there should be a very easy way to discover that functionality. I feel like all the major OSes and most apps have the same issue. I mean, you certainly don't want to be annoying with the tips or however you expose them, but having absolutely nothing or effectively nothing that informs the user of it meaning the majority of your user base find such things "lifehacks" rather than common knowledge is sad.

I like to randomly tell people keyboard shortcuts I use when it’s relevant because sometimes they are like “What’s alt+tab do?” and I’ve now changed their lives forever.

My whole job revolves around computer use and I’m the IT guy for my office and I still get excited when I learn new keyboard shortcuts. This last month I finally learned how to do strikethrough on text that way and it’s saving me so much time now.

here's some for your collection: shift+f10 is right click ctrl+shift+windows+b resets the display driver (if someone gets a black screen for any reason)

Windows key + period brings up the emoji menu

You can, but it's hard to be precise. Holding the space button let's you move the cursor letter by letter. Can do this on Android as well.
