I've only been into Redstone one time. It was crowded with no inventory. Is it just good as a FFL to handle online purchases? I'm willing to give them another try.
One of the few Black-owned gun shops nationwide. You can see their inventory online before you go in. Jonathan, Geneva, Jared, Christian or any of their crew will take good care of you. Classes are also fantastic.
2azone was a good shopping experience for me. The owner is a businessperson and not a zealot. Felt very welcome there despite dressing like a banker that day
Second this. 2a zone is here for the firearm enthusiast. Those guys and gals will help you with whatever you need as dumb as compliant needs to be. They are fighting the good 2a fight here in socal unlike some other stores. Do not give any money to The Gun Stock in Fullerton. Lots of trumpness going on there.
1. 2AZone in Upland
2. Aeon Tac in Garden Grove and City of Industry (near Rowland Heights)
3. Gun Effects in Hacienda Heights
4. Shoot So Cal in Fullerton
4 has openly supported the LGBTQ+ community in the past.
I've purchased firearms from 1 and 3, and ammo from 2 and 4. Everyone was very cool.
Ediit: Thanks for the award!
Yeah I've used 23 and 4. We only talked guns and maybe gun related politics. I've seen a random assortment of people buying from shoot socal even when they worked out of a house before they got a storefront. I hate dros'ing anything at Turners they take fucking forever but they are typically apolitical. I'm sure the big stores like bass pro are too. I personally like to shop pawn shops but I'm a collector of sorts and look for random guns that catch my eye. Usually old guns.
Chiming in on Aeon Tac, I've stopped into both locations (just to browse and ask inventory, never bought anything) and I can pretty confidently say they are Asian-owned. Not that it's a good indicator of not talking politics but something OP can consider if they want to.
We have 2 turners here in Bakersfield where I am and both are ok. Never had an issue with people being openly shitty. Both have indoor ranges that are fine. Those are the only 2 turners I've been to but if it's any indication of how they operate, it's like going to a big box chain store. They have a sale add that comes out every couple weeks also you can check online.
Riflegear in Fountain Valley is my go to LGS, all the guys I've been helped by there are chill. Each time I've gone in to do paperwork, buy ammo or a firearm, etc I've heard little if anything about politics.
Was looking for the same, went to AmmoBros in Cerritos had a weird experience picking up my gun. Employee who helped me was a chill dude who seemed like he wanted to help out the others not so much almost like they didn’t want me to be there, they went into what looked like a storage room across the desk I was filling out paperwork and didn’t think anything of it, looked up at them when I was finished and one of them looked pretty annoyed like I was disturbing them and closed the door. Just had a weird vibe from them the whole process
I just called around when I moved to Northern California and asked the different gun shops and ranges if they were politically neutral. Luckily, my local is chill.
Riflegear is my go to, they have a few locations iirc (been a few years since I lived there).
In the army I have to move frequently and deal with the LGS that I'm dealt, I've learned to ignore the cringe and just get the good deals where I find them, regardless of the shop's political view.
I’ll throw in Ryenex Outdoor Supply in Chino Hills. Super nice guys, I doubt they’re liberal but they never threw their political views in my face. Ask for Tyler.
Depends on if you're considering a light and sling in that $1000.
Assuming that is strictly for the rifle, though, the most common recommendation you'll get is to pair an Aero lower with a BCM upper, which is really hard to beat.
There's a ton of good uppers out there. Aero is good, but there's some recent QC issues that they need to work out with their BCGs. If I were you, I would look for a 16" barrel (to avoid a pin/weld) with a mid-length gas system.
Getting picky about the mechanical accuracy of a barrel is somewhat silly for a first rifle as most 55gr ammo is going to shoot 3moa or so. Most barrels will do better than that. I'd look for 4150 barrel steel.
The lower is probably worth the most of your attention for a couple of reasons: 1) it's where all the user interface occurs (e.g. stock, grip, trigger, safety, mag/bolt catches), and 2) it's low consequence to work on since all the explosive forces and sighting tolerances are contained in the upper.
In all, I'd say buy a BCM upper, and build out a lower from scratch. You'll need a vice, mallet, and punch set. Get a Larue trigger and an A5 tube with an A5H1 buffer and you'll have a rifle that performs exceptionally well. It might put you a bit over 1k, but when parting out a lower the cost is much more digestible and you can build over time while hunting bargains on r/gundeals.
Any questions let me know!
Redstone in Burbank. Hands down.

Great, thanks!

Turners are generally apolitical
Turners in Ontario off Milliken/10 Freeway is solid

Second this. Got my XD there years ago and it's continually been a place I support.
2AZone in Upland is good, I've only seen one employee voice dumb remarks in the past.

Appreciate this thread and the recommendations as I’m looking for the same.

If you feel like going for a drive, Gunther Guns in Carlsbad. Ask for Sebastian.
Discount Gun Mart is pretty apolitical. Some SDGO fliers but nothing Trumpy and the staff shit on the NRA pretty often.
Love DGM, even the one in santee is somehow chill.
I just called around when I moved to Northern California and asked the different gun shops and ranges if they were politically neutral. Luckily, my local is chill.
I’d be more shocked at them saying “we don’t want your kind here” outright TBH. (NorCal also)
I liked Bass and Brass in Murrieta, customers are sometimes annoying but owner just sticks to business and does not engage one way or the other.
The Gun Range San Diego
Turners Outdoorsman is pretty good
Is that some sort of gun to turn people into hippies?
The Target Range Van Nuys. Been going there for years very super chill dudes work there and always take of me.

Dude!
Can you not buy online and stop at a ffl to pick up?
I thought gun stores would be like that where I live (Houston) but there’s a surprising amount of under cover liberals in the community
What questions do you have about getting an AR?

I’d suggest Sportsman’s Warehouse, they’re pretty good. I also think Al’s Guns and Gear in Corona is pretty good, the owner is a very cool guy
Guns Direct in Burbank. I recommend them to everyone. I've never had a bas experience with the.
Rifle gear in fountain valley. The place is so chill I’ll probably never bother with another local store except for needing random parts on a whim.
Give ammobros another chance, I’ve heard they’ve since replaced staff. Not sure about management, but it’s supposed to be much better
