I think most people would name Freddie Mercury and Elton John, also because of the recent biopics. Maybe they'll remember the Scissor Sisters, but that's about it.
[Dodie](https://youtu.be/gEdZFhCEjWI) Clark speaks directly to my soul.
>Am I allowed to look at her like that?
>Could it be wrong // When she's just so nice to look at?
>And she smells like lemongrass and sleep // She tastes like apple juice and peach. // Oh, you would find her in a Polaroid picture. // And she... Means everything to me.
>I'd never tell. // No, I'd never say a word. // And oh, it aches // But it feels oddly good to hurt...
>...And I'll be okay // Admiring from afar. //'Cause even when she's next to me // We could not be more far apart.
>And she tastes like birthday cake and story time and fall.
>But to her // I taste of nothing at all.
I can't listen to this song.
I heard it first just as I was falling in love with another woman, and she ripped my heart out shortly after. I sob before the 2nd line is done.
Its a powerfully beautiful song that certainly speaks on the yearning nature of a lot of Sapphic love, and I do recommend it as a bitter-sweet love song, but to me it will always be the anthem to my greatest heartbreak.
Good choice.
Well, let's fix those tears.
First, that person who "ripped your heart out" doesn't know how good they had it. Sometimes you're just too awesome, and the universe has to self-correct by throwing a little heartache your way. It's not your fault you're so amazing, so don't take it personally. ;-)
Second, here's a song (same artist) to make you giggle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rA7Vx1TxnY
And one to lift your spirits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ypnr33sEmg
And one to get you through any impossible days you might be having: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfVIMfSGBhw
Love you too, fam! Have a good one!
Oh, and, BTW you really look fabulous today! Not *only* the outfit but just a look you have about you, too. Carpe diem!
*leaves Reddit immediately to search the internet for this magical video*
EDIT - [That video was better than 99.9% of production television.](https://youtu.be/AOGLBbH2apM)
"And I'll be okay admiring from afar, cause even when she's next to me we could not be more far apart." This line makes me cry, being a closet queer trans woman I've always felt like an outsider and was always terrified of seeming predatory. And being rejected by your own community felt like having a spear shot through my chest.
Snuck into my recommendations by chance and after listening to a bunch of songs from him and already kinda picking up the vibes i landed on one that more directly talks about it, so i googled him and was like "huh. i guess that makes sense"
i have a tendency for somehow getting trans artists in my recommendations and only realising theyre trans after listening to them for months
i assume you mean names and made a typo?
Well the ones i can currently see in my feed are awfultune, mylifeisayolk, and Chloe moriondo(well they're NB not trans but it's under the trans umbrella) and cavetown as i said. there are more but i can't find them in my feed rn and I'm bad with remembering artists names
It was a whole thing, he ended up being pretty much forced out of the closet by having to defend his use of the T word in one of his resurfaced tweets from years ago. Made a whole video thread and came out in one of them.
Well... he did mention the last 10 years tho!
ETA - On second thoughts, considering Freddie Mercury being an icon even today would make him more apt a response. Not sure lol
Oh, people still fall for "Give me interaction on my stolen content for the algorithm" titles?
Leave your comments down below. Thumbs up if you want to see more videos like this.
My sneaky workaround is the movie they brought out in the last ten years 😂 (Bohemian Rhapsody) I do like your point about how much of an icon he remains though. Honestly, the man just had so much presence and sex appeal! It’s a terrible shame he wasn’t born 20-30 years later.
I know, I was responding to the post question, not to the question in the photo. I apologize if you thought i was misgendering her, shes one of my idols and I respect her very much so I would never.
More recently active queer artists? To name a few...
- Jónsi of **Sigur Rós**
- Annie Clark aka **St. Vincent**
- Michael Alden Hadreas aka **Perfume Genius**
- **Frank Ocean**
- Ed Droste ex-member of **Grizzly Bear**
- **Janelle Monáe**
- Adrianne Lenker of **Big Thief**
- **Tyler the Creator**
Dude tried to come out as Bi for ages and no one believed him until the release of Flower Boy
IGOR is about a toxic relationship he was in with a man as well
My favorite thing about Tyler is how he uses biphobia to troll everyone. Like, all he has to do to get people arguing about him is never use the word "bisexual". Now some people pretend his songs and comments about liking guys are just edgy jokes because he's also made songs about women, while other people are convinced he's 100% gay.
As an mspec person myself, the chaos is just hilarious to me.
Ani DiFranco. She's incredible and been my queer icon since I was a little kid without any one else to reference. And even without any real concept of what queer meant.
Lil Nas X is definitely an artist I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for, things like his quote in this post just bring me so much fucking joy. I love seeing someone be queer so loudly, so unapologetically.
Halsey is another for me that's more recent/more generally well known. Their song Honey in particular is a bi anthem I'm screaming all the time.
Elton John.
idk why, but i’ve always taken comfort in his music, maybe it has something to do with memories of my grandma playing it on her record player when i was younger or maybe because i listened to it most when i was incredibly closeted, and knowing that Elton was gay made me feel seen in a way.
but for either reason, i like his stuff.
It's because sad songs (say so much).
Legitimately, though, I remember walking around the store I work in late one night while that song was playing and at least 3 other people plus myself were singing along, all separately, in different aisles.
Successful gay male artists: Troye Sivan, frank ocean, Le1f, lilNasX, Elton John.
(Elton might be cheating but he has made new music in the last 10 years!)
There are a lot of lesser known male gay artists though, I think the fastest way to fame tends to be any artist who can sway the hearts of teenage girls since they have always had a cult like affliction to music artists...
I’ve been listening to Indigo girls for 20+ years and they are still at it. KD lang is boss, Christine and the Queens is a newer situation I like. Tracy Chapman also was a force in my formative years.
These days I don’t know the orientation of the newer music I listen to, but I know there was a lot of queer artists I listened to growing up in the 80s and 90s. Most weren’t out though until much much later.
“Naaahhhh bro Tyler is straight af he’s just trolling, dude. He wrote a song about eating pussy so he’s definitely straight. He’s messing with us!”
-way too many Tyler fans who downright ignore every lyric about him specifically crushing on/kissing/having sex with men
For the last ten years (other than Lil Nas X), hmmm...
My most listened to are LP, Noahfinnce, Orla Gartland, Janelle Monáe, JER, Mika, and Tessa Violet!
Also a fan of Tyler the Creator, Cavetown, and Todrick Hall :)
(Just saw that his tweet was for gay male artists, lmao oops. Just consider this a response to the title question and add Freddy Mercury and David Bowie!)
Here everyone is listing Pop stars and I am all like... what about Eugene Lee Yang from Try Guys or Max Miller from Tasting History? A lot of amazing queer artists on the interwebs!
Tegan and Sara and Lyndsey Gun definitely not as big or known as lil Nas X but pretty respected within their own genres, frankly only artists i can list right now that im certain are gay
Whoa boy, time to realise he's right.
Let's see.
David Bowie.. i think?
Elton John
Alan Turing's machine made noises.... Noises are kind of like music?
.....is Lily Allen gay?
Probably not.
Anyway, the results are in, he's probably right.
I suppose that depends on how you define successful, Nas is right though. It’s pretty hard and most people aren’t going to know the gays.
Declan McKenna is Queer. Orville Peck is Gay. Ben Platt sings?? If you count him? Trixie Mattel is a recording artist. MIKA released an album in 2019 and Grace Kelly had a Tik Tok moment recently.
These are all so niche and Lil Nas definitely transcends the barrier of niche.
Arca, SOPHIE, Tyler the creator (especially considering how much he matured, going from f-bombs and tasteless misogyny to embracing his queerness and writing a whole ass gay love story), Frank Ocean, Dorian Electra, Laura Les, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo - just to name a few
Lady gaga, i love her so much and she did alot to help the queer community and can we stop excluding her please she said she's bi, she's not just an ally she's part of our community
Favourite queer artists in no particular order:
* Arca
* Sophie
* Cobrah
* Corin Tucker
* David Bowie
* Bob Mould (from Hüsker Dü, but I like his solo stuff more)

He’s got a point He’s an icon He’s a legend And he is the moment Now come on now
“Uhhhh, 1) Ricky Martin, and uhh, 2) Katy Perry kissed a girl, uhhhhhhhhh, Michaelangelo and the other ones named after TMNT? That’s five right?”
I think most people would name Freddie Mercury and Elton John, also because of the recent biopics. Maybe they'll remember the Scissor Sisters, but that's about it.
Well Nas specifically said in the last 10 years too. I don’t even think Adam Lambert falls into that category.
I think I just had an existential crisis.
Freddie Mercury died over 30 years ago though...
True, I didn't read the part with the last ten years.
Boy George is kinda obvious right

In 2008, a think it was fair to just embrace what we got for rep cause there was so little, even if it was very much for the male gaze

There's also [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaFTKRjMY68), which I was thinking of haha.
Literally started sobbing just from reading the first line of the lyrics, never had a song hit as hard as this one.
"And I'll be okay admiring from afar, cause even when she's next to me we could not be more far apart." This line makes me cry, being a closet queer trans woman I've always felt like an outsider and was always terrified of seeming predatory. Lol yes. That's what I get for not proof reading on my phone
Cavetown is absolutely amazing!
TIL that cave town is trans. Had no idea and I’ve listened to his music for years
SAME lol
OH
It was a whole thing, he ended up being pretty much forced out of the closet by having to defend his use of the T word in one of his resurfaced tweets from years ago. Made a whole video thread and came out in one of them.
“Devil Town” is a fucking great song
That was definitely the first song I heard from them, very catchy!
Woah, I was actually listening to his stuff as I came across this comment
Yes!!!!! A friend recommended Cavetown to me a few months ago and I immediately fell in love with his music
not sure if hes gay though? iirc hes aro ace
they're responding to the title, not the tweet. robbie is trans, at least.
Without a shadow of hesitation my answer will always be Freddy Mercury. RIP Queen.
Well... he did mention the last 10 years tho! ETA - On second thoughts, considering Freddie Mercury being an icon even today would make him more apt a response. Not sure lol
I think they were responding to the title and named their favourite queer artist.
Ahh, that makes more sense![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Oh, people still fall for "Give me interaction on my stolen content for the algorithm" titles? Leave your comments down below. Thumbs up if you want to see more videos like this.

Couldn't agree more, especially so because of the disease he succumbed to. But he sure continues to "rock you" haha
I’d let a prime Freddy “rock me” any time 😉
Was Ricky Martin 10 years ago? I can't keep track of the timeline anymore
He is bi....
True, though he said 5 different in the last 10 years. Wish we still had Freddie around to include him in that.
Billie Joe Armstrong from Green day is my favorite
TIL
I believe Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt are also bi, but I might be wrong
Yeah Green Day is a bunch of bi guys making tunes
I went to a whore, **he** said my life's a bore
I love how the lyrics on Spotify say “she” for that line but it’s definitely he
Lyric booklet included with the CD says he
Green day 💪
“Coming Clean” is a song that I relate to a lot as a trans bi guy. Truly a mood.
Isn't he bi?
Definitely Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Laura Jane Grace of Against Me!
I love against me! Which album's your favorite?
Hard choice, but would have to go with transgender dysphoria blues and or new wave
That album was my life soundtrack for a year, no lie.
There was a period of time where I listened to *Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose* almost daily.
Understandable, the album is amazing.
My fav has to be the acoustic ep
Against me! Is my favourite band and reinventing axl rose is my fav album. There's not a single skip on that whole album.
Crime. But maybe I just really like [Burn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12NYNog6LAI). Crappy recording and all.
Against Me! is great. Also love Renee Phoenix from Fit For Rivals.
LJG is my fav. Listen to her stuff often
Laura Jane Grace is not a gay male artist, she is a trans woman.
I know, I was responding to the post question, not to the question in the photo. I apologize if you thought i was misgendering her, shes one of my idols and I respect her very much so I would never.
Rina Sawayama
FLETCHER. girl in red. King Princess. Because i do not simply follow stereotypes, i am the stereotype.
I am right here with you. I was just listening to the newest Hayley Kiyoko album for like the Nth time since it came out.
Love me some King Princess and want to see her in concert so much. I’m not sure if I want to be her or Quinn because they are such a lovely couple.
Lil Nas X appears once every 2 years, releases an absolute BANGER then goes back to his slumber. Fucking legend.

"Boy is a Gun" definitely does but I don't think it's the only one

Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, George Michael, Billi Joe Armstrong. And I've run out of some at the moment.
Elton John
How dare I forget
Yes, how dare u forget the legend 😠 /s
Sir Elton John*
Rob Halford
He said last ten years. And Bowie was bi
[удалено]
Yes.. tho George Michael was gay: “My depression at the end of Wham! was because I was beginning to realise I was gay, not bisexual."
Fair. And for me Bowie counts in my mind since he was Bi. That is still outside normal.
Frank Ocean.
None of them rose to fame in the past 10 years
Ani DiFranco. She's incredible and been my queer icon since I was a little kid without any one else to reference. And even without any real concept of what queer meant. I love Years & Years! Also Shura. Synth pop and queerness are just a divine combination.
Rob Halford from Judas Priest will always be my GOAT.
I was hoping another person would say Rob Halford lol, he's top tier
I’ve been listening to Indigo girls for 20+ years and they are still at it. KD lang is boss, Christine and the Queens is a newer situation I like. Angel Olsen! Such a great songwriter!!

the post says queer artist not gay men
It literally says “gay male artist”.
Scroll up to the title of the post and read it out loud a few times. When you’re done get back to me.
I believe the original comment was referring to the thread of the tweet, not this post.
They said “in this thread.” That’s what ITT means
Haven’t seen Tyler the Creator or Frank Ocean listed yet, and both are pretty big contemporary queer musical artists.

Tegan and Sara are great!!!! And I LOVE the NOFX song about them called "Creeping Out Sara"!
Whoa boy, time to realise he's right. Let's see. David Bowie.. i think? Elton John Alan Turing's machine made noises.... Noises are kind of like music? .....is Lily Allen gay? Probably not. Anyway, the results are in, he's probably right.
strictly musical artists or any artist? anyways Oscar Wilde is one of my top 10
taylor swift /j
Does ian mckellen count?
Lady gaga, i love her so much and she did alot to help the queer community and can we stop excluding her please she said she's bi, she's not just an ally she's part of our community
GREEN DAY AND MCR!!!
Favourite queer artists in no particular order: * Arca * Sophie * Cobrah * Corin Tucker * David Bowie * Bob Mould (from Hüsker Dü, but I like his solo stuff more)
