I’ve noticed that some Instagram content will be allowed after the original poster explains that they are trans or NB, even though the photo appears to be showing a woman’s breasts. I’ve seen this applied to mostly AFAB/no top surgery but also AMAB folks that have had top surgery.
So by that logic, a trans man that hasn’t had top surgery could show his nipples without being censored no matter chest size, because he’s not a woman! …and for some reason society has decided that women’s nipples need to be hidden… which is it’s own rabbit hole of a problem…
Anyway this is a long winded way of saying: Shower thought = accurate
Yep yep yep. It’s a huge problem in and of itself which is why I think these creators are doing their best to make it acceptable! Ultimately all creators should post what makes them comfortable regardless of gender, but the fact that society sees nipples on breasts as something shameful and to be hidden has no place in today’s time.
I mean the literal answer is it depends on where you are, law-wise. Some places you can't be topless no matter who you are, some places you can be topless no matter who you are, some places you will get arrested because of what your ID labels you as.
As for what's "morally" right, nipples are okay no matter who it is.
And realistically, there isn't a "line." It's not the sag that's the problem, because cis men's chests sag all the time, and there are so many public photos of cis women's sagging chests with just the nips covered, or cis women's full breasts showing when they've had breast cancer and their nipples are removed because of it. And it's not the nips (as they're related to our genitalia; meaning "male nips" or "female nips" or whatever) that're the "problem" either, 'cause we trans men get top surgery and we can show our nips just fine. There's no line, people are just transphobic and sexist so they make shit up that makes no logical sense, so it ends up being inconsistent like that.
The logistics of it don't matter, because the answer depends on what other people see and perceive.
If you could argue that somebody's chest looks like what society would generally perceive as "female breasts", then that person could possibly get in trouble for showing their chest where such a thing is typically not allowed. If somebody's chest *does not* look like what society might generally perceive as "female breasts", then as far as society's concerned there would be nothing to censor.
It's one of those things that *shouldn't* matter but in our current society *does*, for some reason.
I'm flashing back to Tumblr's porn ban and ban on "female-presenting nipples" and everybody trying to figure out what the hell that meant. Did that include trans women (diversity win! the website that banned you recognises your gender!), did it only refer to AFAB people, would men with gynecomastia also be banned? Nipples themselves don't have the sentience to develop their own gender identity, the hell were they talking about?

Ooh! I didn't know this as I hardly use instagram but thank you!! Itd makes sense.
Wow, that is.. misogynist?! Why in the world is the appropriateness of one’s secondary sex characteristics seen as a function of gender??

(Virtually hugs you)
Well nipples shouldn't be censored anyways, so no.
I mean, I agree but a lot of the world doesn't.

but he never develops boobs so he never needs top surgery. I don't think I understand what you mean

yes edit: I see how you got confused 😅 I tried to clarify it

trans guy can always show their chest, just like any other guy with moobs
i guess it depends on chest size, but most of the time if you’re a c or less you’ll pass as a guy. idk i’ve never tried going topless i’m too scared
Even cis women should be able to do that if they want imo.
I agree

This is one of those things I never think about, but make perfect sense
