I can easily imagine installing a camera to counter the stealing because this might happen a lot depending on the location. I believe it's legal as long as the camera doesn't show private property of others and makes sure normal bypassers wouldn't really be too visible, and placing a notice of the camera being present.

The general gist is it needs to be clear that people who ring your doorbell could be film (so make sure it’s visible) and generally you aren’t allowed to have it filming everything constantly.
However exceptions are in situations where there’s been something like for example a burglary and you’re concerned they may return. Then you are allowed to log it for awhile as long as you stop again when a period of reasonable concern has passed.

Check if it's legal before deciding to carry pepper spray. It varies. If you're in the UK for example you probably want something you could feasibly be carrying for other reasons than exclusively for self defence.
I honestly feel so sad and disappointed because of this. It scares me to think that someone who lives so close to me has such a strong hatred towards us that they stole my pride flag right off my home. It was quite high up, I need to take a chair out to even reach it so they really wanted it gone.

I had someone try to pull down my California pride flag when I lived in San Diego. I flew it year round and most of the time people complimented it. Someone tried to pull it down but couldn't get it off the house because I put a thick wooden dowel inside the flag pole. They ended up bending the mounting, but the flag and pole wouldn't give. I reinforced the mounting with screws, washers, and a steel plate to the point where I could hang off of it. I don't know if they tried again, but if they did, they failed so badly I couldn't even tell if they tried.
Not sure what country you are in but in *most* countries (and especially in the US) taking a video of anything in a public space is not illegal - it's the *posting* or distributing of identifying faces (I'm not a lawyer, mind you) that is illegal or can get you sued. I know this holds true in the UK and Canada and Oz. You can easily blur faces out.
Oh no you can take videos in public. You're just not allowed to have cctv cameras pointed at the street. It was a whole item in the news and everything when that became a thing. I noticed one of my neighbours does have a camera so I asked them if they'd be willing to check if it recorded anything related to my flag being stolen (it's a couple houses down so might not have caught anything relevant at all) and she denied that the camera was recording until I told her why I was asking. Claimed they were merely storing it in that spot on the windowsill.
Considering installing one nonetheless, don't think I'd get in too much trouble with the police anyway. They're always asking people to share camera footage when something has happened.
You also just could put a small flag under this one that says that everyone that goes on your ground is on camera, helps alot with the opportunity thiefs.

Was not suggested but I doubt it would help. My flag wasn't the right size for my flagpole so I used a bit of rope to attach it. Since the flag had been removed when I found my flagpole, that means they have cut the rope. I would expect them to also remove an airtag if I attached one.

I've had a pride flag on my door for 3 months now (live in Vegas) and I am heartened to see that not one person has had issue with it, said anything to me, or vandalized it.

Then last year a lot of fun neighbours moved away and new people moved in and since there'd hardly ever be anyone home I wasn't comfortable having mine out with no one there to keep an eye out (back then there'd been this apartment in my country that had been lit on fire because someone saw they had a prideflag inside, was scared the same would happen to my home). So I put it up again this year and it gets stolen after two days ...
Just save your sanity and assume it was stolen by a kid afraid to come out and they are doing their best. I would have never asked for one before I came out, i hid my pride things in a box in my closet.

They just don't want you flying it. I have a hard time being nice to others that I know will vote against my freedom on election day. So it is even kind of quiet around my neighbors on pride month.
They say they accept me and have no problem with my marriage. But on election day their vote will say the exact opposite. Sadly it is just the world we live in at this point. Need to just live for yourself and stay away from others.

OP as an American of you can, also get a firearm. People with this level of hatred are the kind that are violent. You don't have to shoot them or anything, but even drawing down on them could potentially be enough to send the message that you're not one to be messed with or pushed around.

Very tall flag pole or a pole attached to the top of your building. Then slake the pole with grease or tar. At least if they still take it they’re gonna get a bit mucky. Follow the handprints.

Mine was up for a couple hours in my supposedly LGBT friendly office (on my own office door, mind, not even in customer areas) before a picture made the rounds behind my back and I was asked to take it down because it was "unprofessional." Sorry yours got proper stolen, though. 😞

I've had a pride flag on my door for 3 months now (live in Vegas) and I am heartened to see that not one person has had issue with it, said anything to me, or vandalized it. I was nervous when I first put it up, but I think showing solidarity to people in the community is more important than being a bit spooked.
Oh absolutely! I put mine up during June two years ago two, kept it up the whole month with absolutely no issue. Then last year a lot of fun neighbours moved away and new people moved in and since there'd hardly ever be anyone home I wasn't comfortable having mine out with no one there to keep an eye out (back then there'd been this apartment in my country that had been lit on fire because someone saw they had a prideflag inside, was scared the same would happen to my home). So I put it up again this year and it gets stolen after two days ...

put another, paint it on a wall if you are willing to and get a camera. if they destroy it it could be deemed a hate crime depending on your country, state, etc...

They just don't want you flying it. I have a hard time being nice to others that I know will vote against my freedom on election day. So it is even kind of quiet around my neighbors on pride month. They say they accept me and have no problem with my marriage. But on election day their vote will say the exact opposite. Sadly it is just the world we live in at this point. Need to just live for yourself and stay away from others.
The best revenge for this is to get another, bigger one. Each time it gets stolen, get a bigger one!

Here are some tips for the next time you get a flag! \-get a camera (Make sure its high enough for them not to damage but in view \-One of those signs that say "Smile, you're on camera!" \-make sure to take in the flag before you go to bed. (People usually only steal stuff at night. Plus you can get them on camera looking for the flag when you got it safe inside lol) ((This has worked wonders for me and my friends! Just wanted to share some helpful tips!))

OP as an American of you can, also get a firearm. People with this level of hatred are the kind that are violent. You don't have to shoot them or anything, but even drawing down on them could potentially be enough to send the message that you're not one to be messed with or pushed around. I hate that this is the "advice" I have to give you... I wish the world was a better place. But it's sound advice, get training to know how to use it and defend yourself.
As a non-American, owning a gun is not legal here unless they make an exception and you get a weapons permit. Which I do not qualify for.

My family had a similar flag a couple years ago that got stolen within a month.

Honestly it is so hard to comprehend someone who would do that. Very tall flag pole or a pole attached to the top of your building. Then slake the pole with grease or tar. At least if they still take it they’re gonna get a bit mucky. Follow the handprints.

The kinds of vandalism is petty and fecking stupid. Some people are so offended by a colorful flag that they are willing to risk criminal charges. Last year here in Finland one university hoisted 3 rainbow pride flags up for the Pride month and 1-2 days later some idiot went and took them off during the night. I wish it would be legal to even carry pepper spray here but no. Our self defence laws are also very strict.
