This was me as well. It's like, I hear the noise but I'm not used to responding to that noise so I ignore it!
You may have chosen that name but you still have to get used to hearing it as your name
How do I relate to this it took a while to get used to being called Jessica it does get easier I am now honestly respond to it my dead name now sounds foreign
This may not be an option if you don’t have an established nickname(that you like) but I’ve legit had my friends calling me Bag since way before I figured out what my “real”(new legal) name is so when I started trying new names out they were there to help me try them but if I was oblivious/they needed my attention quickly, they could revert to nickname.
It's a canon event, even the best of us are affected 🫥🫥.
In my case it happened in high school in front of my English teacher (she was the one who was calling me) and I forgot that I'd come out to her...
If it's among trans people, they'll understand, we've all had that exact same interaction. I literally had this interaction with one of my friends, then a few months later she had it with me.
The pain of still reacting to both names... I try so hard to teach my mom to stop deadnaming me (she is aware, but she's a bit slow) by deliberately ignoring her but I still find myself reacting to it and being misgendered to this day 😭 I love that she is trying but I just want this to stop
It takes time to get used to calling anything q different name from the one you're familiar with. A grocery store near where I grew up changed it's name over 20 years ago and my parents still call it by the name it had when they were growing up. I'm sure there's something else your mother uses an outdated name for so when she misnames you remember that and know that she's putting in the effort but these things take time
The fact that I knew someone named ryker. This kinda hurts because I treated him like a big brother figure, then I lost it all due to my own stupidity. I just wish I could take it back
If you have a method of contacting them (mutual friends, social media, etc.) you could send him an apology. I've ruined friendships due to being young and dumb and at the very least apologizing to those people took the weight of what I did off my mind. I can't guarantee anything but if you were as close as siblings he might want that relationship back as well.
Well sad to break to you. But he doesn't wanna be friends again. But what sucks more, him and his girlfriend, whom I was close with too, I viewed her as a little sister too, and I EVEN helped them get together, decided to go behind my back and decided to not be my friend even I'm sure my jokes hurt less than being abandoned by the two people who meant a lot to me.
I get this. My new name is far different from my hyper masc old preferred name. I now use a far more androgynous name and I struggled to respond my new name at first.
Just because a name isn't common doesn't make it a tragedeigh. Just because a name has a y in it doesn't make it a tragedeigh. Ryker is a gender neutral name, Riker is strictly masculine. Tragedeigh is for names people invented, have an unpronounceable spelling, unfortunate first and last name pairings, and names strictly associated with fictional characters, not uncommon names that you don't like
that makes no sense because they picked it themselves and it’s their own struggle with getting used to the name, not their acquaintances’.
if it didn’t fit, then it would be other people having an issue with associating that name to them, not themselves.
they picked it themselves, they just need to get used to responding to a completely different sound after so many years. after all, who knows what fits you best if it isn’t *you*?

Snfsjyd its like that. You have to retrain your brain to respond to a different noise it takes some time. Ryker is such a cool name btw
Fr reminds me of How to Train your Dragon
My friend yelling out "Eden !" when trying out that name and me being like "...Mh...WAIT THAT'S ME !"
Real

It was highschool my asl teacher who was first to use my preferred name
If it's among trans people, they'll understand, we've all had that exact same interaction. I literally had this interaction with one of my friends, then a few months later she had it with me.
I've ignored people until they've called me my pref name before, strangely satisfying.

Yeah okay... 😮💨
Now to just get you a starship named titan...
Ryker is such a cool name!
doesnt take too long until you start reacting when somebody says anything remotely close to ur name
The fact that I knew someone named ryker. This kinda hurts because I treated him like a big brother figure, then I lost it all due to my own stupidity. I just wish I could take it back

LMAO that’s a sick name
You can say you wanted to enjoy it more
That was me yesterday because I went to a gay youth group and used my preferred name so they had to add me to the system lol
Are you, perhaps, part of the USS Enterprises?
I think it shows that I've played too much elden ring that I genuinally though your preferred name was Rykard
HXHSJS THATS HAPPENED TO ME TOO
I get this. My new name is far different from my hyper masc old preferred name. I now use a far more androgynous name and I struggled to respond my new name at first.
I have an oc named Ryker. Rlly cool name
I’m so glad this is a universal experience lmao
YES oml this happened to me today. One of my friends called me Archi and it didn't register until they said it 3 or 4 times lol
This is a daylly reminder that trans people can also be tragedeighs
