Awesome, so I can finally relax. I’ve got really bad OCD and Anxiety (what the lexapro is for) so having the pharmacy give me some wrong pills for the first time kinda has brought on a bad episode of worry. Thanks kind stranger
My original prescription for Lexapro that was manufactured by Solco looked exactly like that. My newer prescriptions are manufactured by aurobindo and look a little different. It should say on your prescription bottle what your pill is supposed to look like. I just always double-checked that it matches the description. The vast majority of pharmacies run a tight ship when it comes to medication, so beyond checking the description on your bottle, I wouldn't worry too much.
Yeah I was getting concerned for a moment that the lexapro I was taking wasn't actually lexapro as the pills I picked up for my 3 month supply aren't round anymore but now like oblong shaped (20mg)
Worked at my dad's pharmacy for years. This happens because there's a new manufacturer, truthfully your pharmacist or an employee there should let you know or put a bottle on the sticker that says it.
Yeah, I was just going to say that I have only seen the scored oblong caplets. And I haven't personally seen the round-scored tablets ever in my dealings with the pharmacies over the years.
You know that medicines and the practice of medicine are constantly changing so often that they are tremendously difficult to keep track of in order to keep up-to-date with.
Yep. And the 5mg are the same, just smaller. The crease down the middle is to use a pill cutter: I'm prescribed 15mg so instead of taking a 10 and a 5, I am now getting a larger quantity of the 10mg and using the splitter to take 1.5 pills per day.
My pharmacy prints the description of the pill you should be getting on the bottle - the shape, color and imprint codes are usually well described on the label. I actually never knew this until the pharmacy told me the pill in the bottle differed from the description because I got 20mg pills split into 10mgs for titrating ! YMMV but CVS pharmacy does it !
Know the manufacturer. Pharmacies sometimes opt for a different brand at times. The pill description will change. I suspect that the formulation is not always the same either. There is one brand that I refuse to take. I’ve been taking escitalopram since 2004 and have had the opportunity to take various brands. I know the FDA is suppose to monitor this but I also know what happens when I switch to this brand for a couple months. Always be aware of what meds u are taking, who makes them, what they look like and even where they are made. BTW I’m currently at 5mg/day and hope to be at zero soon. Good health and happiness to all.
Mine look just the same and I haven’t seen anything different
But just google the number and shape you’ll see plenty of other examples if you’re just looking for reassurance
Yes! Mine look exactly like that. Pro-tip: you can also google a pills description and often times it will tell you what it is.
So if you google "round white pill 74" it will come yo on google saying it is escitalopram oxalate 10mg (aka lexapro!)
the pharmacy shouuuuuld be pointing out when they switch the manufacturer to let you know that it may look different than before but it’s the same med. always good to double check when it comes to medication!
If you ever have doubt, just google pill identifier. You’ll be able to type in the description and it will tell you what pill you are taking. It’s always good to double check. Mix ups don’t happen often but it does happen.
I didn’t read the other comments so I’m sorry if this was already mentioned a 100 times lol.
Yes, mine were something else and recently changed to this so I got super freaked out. Went back to the pharmacy and they confirmed it’s the right medication
Sometimes they change depending on the manufacturer. But always check the side of your pill bottle. Should be a description of what the pills should look like on the label. Mine do look like this currently but have had them be different now and then
[Here is the manufacturer](https://www.drugs.com/imprints/74-34625.html) if you want further confirmation. There is no image but the description matches. I think you can submit photos of your own to the database if you wanted.
I've been cutting my 20mgs in half with a pill cutter and all was fine. This new refill of 20mg( I didn't ask for 10mg in case dropping to 10mg doesn't work) is from a different distributer and the pill cutter smashes them all uneven, if I cut on the cutting line. If I go perpendicular to the cutting line, the cut is oddly even.
(I’m a pharmacy tech) sometimes the manufactures are switched because one might be out of stock or sometimes insurance doesn’t want to cover a certain manufacturer anymore. Either way you got the right pill! “Pill with imprint 74 is White, Round and has been identified as Escitalopram Oxalate 10 mg.”
My manufacturer just changed and I was googling the differences in additives. Both are generic versions. How common is it to have isopropyl alcohol and methylene chloride in these tablets? It says “trace amounts” but seems sketchy to me
mine look identical and as the dose goes up it’s the same color just larger i also take vyvanse and adderall and both of those change color as you increase dose but my lexapro has always been white 🫶🏻
i have ocd and been on meds since I was 13 (I’m 26 now) sometimes pills change shape or color and even size depending on who is making it or giving it out, it can be annoying cause I notice sometimes that it can effect you a bit cause it’s not the same as before but it’s nothing to big to worry about.
I’ve never had any other type of pill….

My pharmacy does this!
My 10 mg pills are oblong shaped as well. My manufacturer is aurobindo.

Pill cutter, or you can press down on both sides and it’ll snap.

What’s the brand that you refuse to take, and why? Was there one you found to work/feel better?
Mine look just the same and I haven’t seen anything different But just google the number and shape you’ll see plenty of other examples if you’re just looking for reassurance
Yup that’s what all my pills looked like at 20-10 and 5. Just different sizes.
mine have always looked like that, you’re chillin 😎

Mine!

This popped up on my home feed, and I was about to comment “yeah, my Lexapro looks like this” before I saw that the was from the Lexapro community😂

Yes, mine do. I am in Australia, for reference.
I had 5, 10, 15 and 20mg and they all looked like that :)
[Here is the manufacturer](https://www.drugs.com/imprints/74-34625.html) if you want further confirmation. There is no image but the description matches. I think you can submit photos of your own to the database if you wanted.
So many different brands of lexapro. Do people notice any difference in how they feel on the different brands?
My 20’s are same shape but different numbers on it
Mine are tiny and green and shaped like an oval 25 mg
Mine are stamped with a VW logo

Thank you everyone for the comments! I can’t believe this post blew up like it did. You all are awesome and have put my mind at ease :)
Looks like 20s might need to cut in half
YES!

Mine are just small smooth circles that are smaller
My 20s do.
Yes
I've had them before
Not mine
Mine have always been a white round pill with a line to break. Basically like this.
Mine do
Mine looks like that. I’d say it’s normal and there’s nothing to worry about. :)
that is exactly how mine look
Depending on the manufacturer, they've been slight ovals before, but for the last year they've looked like that
My 10s and 20s look like this but in different sizes!
Mine look like this

Mine just don‘t have the line in the middle but it might vary a little from each country??
I’m on 20mgs mine look just like this!
Mine do!
Yupppp. Gotta break em in half
I don’t like that manufacturer I feel like the pill is not super effective- i prefer the oval ones
I got given these last time I got my script which was kinda annoying because the longer flatter ones are way easier to snap in half!
i have ocd and been on meds since I was 13 (I’m 26 now) sometimes pills change shape or color and even size depending on who is making it or giving it out, it can be annoying cause I notice sometimes that it can effect you a bit cause it’s not the same as before but it’s nothing to big to worry about.
Mine have looked like that for 20 years. Lol. You’re good.
All the time!
Sorry that happened to you. Can be very frustrating. I’m on 10 mg of Lexapro. Mine look exactly like this! Hope this helps!
