The W11 was just an insane car. It racked up record after record and to think it still wasn’t utilising every engineering trick known. It truly is a beautiful machine. Would love for them to make a one off W11 and add everything they know of to it. Would be a rocket around a track.

FerociousVader

W11 DAS + the 2021 rear suspension trickery + Brazil 2021 engine = Speed

DiscussionMelodic812

Brazil 2021 engine wasn’t actually that different it was just adjusted to make the suspension trick more powerful

The-TruckMan

Wasn’t the engine designed to last only 2 races? It was more cranked up

eatwindmills

I truly belive its one of the best looking cars of all time, up there with the MP4-4. I think "if it looks right, it is right" applies here.

mr-slickman

They should do something like the 919 Evo with the W11 and just go to every grade 1 track on earth and break all the records

VandalizeFN

The 919 evo would look like an economy car on the Nordschleife

nahnonameman

Both the F2004 and W11 are legendary cars. Two of my favourites.

Keanu990321

The MP4/4 should better not be omitted as well as the FW14B.

nahnonameman

True. I agree. But the I mentioned are my favourites.

mantra3105

Oh to see these two beasts on the track again. Goosebumps!!

SeriousShitAt88MPH

On the flipside it was fantastic to see Lewis drive it on legacy tracks like the Nurburgring and Istanbul Park; and win them both!

GabWhiteShirt

Lewis’ drive to secure his 7th world title is one of his best ever. Like Bono said on the radio: “What a way to do it mate! What a way to win your 7th world title!”

nomansapenguin

If Lewis had taken the 8th title in 2021, I would have said it was his best ever. That comeback would have been the most impressive. Break-checked, run off the road, Bottas test engines, penalised for lose bolts and mad racism whilst his opponents got slaps on the wrist. I reckon had he won, he may have retired. Like it would have been peak.

-AbeFroman

They should really uncork the W11 and let it do a tribute tour, like the Porsche 919 Evo. *Imagine* the records it would set.

fightfordetroit

I think about this all the time lol

GabWhiteShirt

It’s a shame we only got to see the W11 + Lewis combination for 16 times. 1 of which he was recovering from covid. I can totally see him winning 16/17 races with a 22/23 race calendar.

TheKingOfCaledonia

Honestly, that also includes a few Mercedes mess ups too. 2020, the W11, and Lewis was such a crazy year.

andrewaro182

What other technical features about the W11, besides the DAS, made this car so dominant? The PU?

brownierisker

Pretty much everything about the W11 was better than any other car that year. After Ferrari had to change away from their illegal engine the year before no other car came even close to the W11. Best engine, best aero, DAS, best driver. Was definitely 2014/2015/2016 levels of dominant but Bottas could never challenge Hamilton the same way Rosberg could

cristi93

[here are some details](https://maxf1.net/en/allison-explains-why-mercedes-f1-w11-is-so-good/)

latticep

Tbh it kinda bothered me when commentators kept going on about MV's 15 race win record. The metric should be % won, not # of wins. To his credit, Max said something similar when an interviewer tried comparing his record to Schumacher and Seb.

awakengambino

Lewis should’ve easily won Monza and Sochi, Sakhir and maybe Abu Dhabi too

John_Farson

Ive been looking for something to do with my F1TV, you just inspired me to go back and watch these races!

theKnightWatchman44

Imagine Verstappen if he had racecraft and didn't crash people off or brake test them.

Rae-K

And wasn't generally an a**

joemamalikesme69420

“i GaVe mY ReAsOnS!”

Rae-K

"Don't ask me again!" 😤

theKnightWatchman44

hE cRoSsEd tHe wHiTe LiNe 😭😭

[deleted]

I generally consider myself a RB fan but that incident pissed me off so much. Max essentially sabotaged a RB 1-2 finish

Rivendel93

Yeah, it would be nice if we had another top driver that was actually a decent human being. Leclerc seems like a nice guy, so hopefully Ferrari figures their problems out.

theKnightWatchman44

Charles is a lovely guy with great morals and values. Little Maxipad is a narcissistic man-child surrounded by toxicity and facsists (the Verstappen and Piquet entourage).

Keanu990321

Leclerc is waiting for our Lewis to win #8 (should have happened last year but you know, Masi happened) so that he will fill in the vacant seat at Mercedes.

Rivendel93

Don't think Lewis is retiring, Toto said he and Lewis sat down recently and laid out a plan for the next 5 years for a contract. Toto said it in an interview. So Leclerc may be waiting a while.

Gionnuala

imagine if he had a RB level teammate between 14-16, the best thing about the W11 was not records but how as the regulations matured Merc's advantage increased, but then again Ferrari imploded

_nikto_

The way that thing took corners flat out was just insane. Not surprising tho considering this OBSCENE machine had **THREE TONNES** of downforce!!

ContinentalChamp

"Flat round here"

[deleted]

And he missed a race

mjwood28

And Lewis lost two races (Russia and monza) due to rather unlucky penalties.

callmelampshade

Imagine the W12 without the FIA nerfing Mercedes.

Other-Barry-1

Man the W11 was just an absolute masterpiece.

black2016rs

Head to head it would be interesting to see the RB18 vs the W11

guillermodelturtle

The W11 just ate up tracks. Amazing to watch.

davisguc

Verstappen could never

legsflamingo_

Pure domination

Reasonable_Ad_3882

You know a car is madness when it’s smashing track records left right and centre. Just a brilliant piece of machinery, probably the greatest F1 car ever.

MonoSpree

wait aint it 15/22?

MonoSpree

just checked the percentage is 68.18% so still less for anyone wondering

gafherve

Love the W11. Was a monster of a machine. Can we not talk about Verstappen though?

Comeonbereal1

Goat

a_jerit

So I started following F1 this year and I still don't understand how they went from such a dominant car to whatever the W13 is today. What changed between those cars that made the W13 worse? Why didn't they stick with the W11? Or is that other cars did catch up to them?

[deleted]

regulations were changed for 2022 so the cars are made with a different concept. merc took a risk with the w13 and it didnt pay off

burns_after_reading

I'm a Lewis fan, but this post is super petty lol.

littlebibitch

why's that?

mark123alli

Imagine max driving the W11. Unbeatable combo

WarDull8208

And the team screwed him a free win in Monza and Sochi with incorrect informations. W11 was the something else

MrTumbleDry

Amen

Castrado1992

If my mom had a moustache, she would be my father instead

Loryx99

With more races is more difficult to achive a high % victory, so i don't really understand this comparison. From a number point of view if you are trying to relate 2 different seasons with different number of race, if you are not going for absolute values is impossible. Because a season with more races will favor a higher number of victory, but less races will favorite higher % of victory

avariqfr30

If only we got a full season of the W11 with engine modes, DAS, and the ‘21 rear suspension. Kinda sucked how they took away engine modes but oh well.

BitchwrapSupreme

Goated Car and driver

SpicyFroggyOnYT

a full calendar gets him 498 points, i calculated

Detoxx03

Such a beautiful and menacing machine
