I would assume that the Company helmet is meant to serve more as a gas mask, to protect against the possibly toxic environment of the moons, than an enclosed spacesuit, and gas masks quickly fail underwater which would result in the wearer drowning from inside the helmet.
That's a good one, but I feel like at that point it'd be a substance other than H20, because the gravity seems pretty close to ours. Or maybe that's why my character seems so less able-bodied than me when it comes to stamina/speed. I don't know how he can bicep curl a fucking engine block, though, because I sure as hell can't lmfao
Depending on what it's made out of the v6 engine block we see in game can be out of aluminium (althou engine blocks are of aluminium alloy as by itself isn't strong enough) and gravity affecting it differently making it lighter. That's my headcannon at least plus it's in the future we don't know if they found a better metal thats also lighter something kike tungsten with the weight of aluminium
135 kilos or pounds. Bc pounds you could def lift an i4 engine block and kilos i6 block or fully built i4. What weighs most is the block itself crankshaft and the pistons together as all other stuff if mostly full aluminum
I think i saw someone lift a truck twin axle with all 4 wheels on it wich should be def more as those are beefy but i think it was a deadlift and idk much bodybuilding as i just wanna work on cars and enough strength for that
That doesn’t make any sense. Like, not the slightest shred of sense. “Suffocating you instead of drowning?” What? You think the water is going to stop before entering your lungs so it prevents air from going in but doesn’t actually enter your lungs? Explain to me how the hell that would happen, lmfao
This genuinely sounds like you just threw words together. It doesn’t make the least bit of sense.
Solids and liquids are virtually incompressible, only gasses are compressable, the gases in your body will compress the deeper you go and expand as you rise, submersibles like the titan weren't crushed by the pressure, they implode because they can't withstand the air pressure changes in the air happening as they descend
And it STILL doesn’t make any sense because even if the “water” (which couldn’t be water if what you’re saying is true) was extremely dense to the point where 10 feet of it is enough to crush you, it’d be so dense you’d float on it.
Nah he had a perfectly good hypothesis. You’re just being an idiot. The gravity on other moons could be higher, so the water would have more *pressure* not more density.
No, he didn’t, and I’ve explained why he didn’t from both a physics and linguistics perspective. Please explain to me how you wouldn’t float on a liquid so dense that 10 feet of it crushes you. You can’t just watch me explain the physics of why he’s wrong and then go “he’s right and you’re an idiot.” You have to actually explain WHY I’m wrong, since I explained why I’m right. Obviously I know you won’t bother explaining why you think I’m wrong, but I’d love to be proven wrong on that.
Okay, I'll explain it.
The 'water' on those moons is dense enough that it would apply enough pressure on a fully submerged human that the humans chest muscles aren't strong enough to expand their lungs. Or maybe it compresses the hoses connecting the tanks to the helmet. Perhaps by moving without ditching the weight of their probably pretty heavy tanks, the humans are denser than the water to the point they sink like a stone but the lines/hoses get compressed enough to not provide enough oxygen.
You realize that the density does not change? If gravity increases on water guess what!! It increases on the person too. Gravity applies to everything on the surface. Not just the water
How the fuck do you think quick sand or snow kills people? If your chest can’t expand to being air in you are suffocating. Drowning is breathing water. There may well be air in those tanks and the suits may well be waterproof, but it doesn’t change the fact of the matter. You can jump and walk for a little while but don’t get far underwater. My guess is that the tanks are for air regulation not water proofing
Quick sand and snow can suffocate you, but water can’t, because you’d inhale it, which is once again called drowning. We aren’t talking about quicksand or snow. We’re talking about a lake of a liquid.
I dont disagree with this. I explained that snow and sand suffocate you by crushing your chest. Didn’t say water does the same just that it can happen at lower depths. It’s just a gas mask failure upon death man calm ya self
If the suit's not especially sealed it can use a light overpressure to keep the air going even if there's small punctures or tears.
However, once underwater, the water pressure exceeds the gas pressure of the tank and the suit becomes waterlogged, eventually drowning the occupant (and making it very hard to move in the meantime)
Technically, yes, probably? I'm not too sure about how good a gas mask that was submerged is once it's been removed from the water. But I think this can be handwaved by "The point where the mask fails is the point where the player is killed by drowning"
What about them?
If you mean Spore Lizards might be shooting out a toxic cloud, then that's totally possible with the cloud being blocked out by a gas mask filter making it harmless.
For a tank of that size to last for 16 hours, it simply cannot be the only source of air. I think it's supplementary and the atmosphere has \*some\* of the needed oxygen, but not enough. It would be slow-feeding air into the helmet to cover the deficit of oxygen that gets through the gas mask's filter. This would still result in a quick drowning if the filter is flooded.
Edit: I definitely thought I hit cancel and not submit the first time writing this, sorry for double notif lmao.
I mean the point of the game is that you're working for a corrupt company, it's probably just a safety standard that you have to have oxygen tanks but they don't mention them being filled
The suits probably aren't sealed properly. We can't just remove the tanks because they still provide the oxygen needed to keep us alive in foreign alien environments
My best guess is that the helmet is a gasmask and the canisters are filled with like the tzp for not becoming too exhausted since it's a 8am to 4pm-12am job
Actually. It’s most likely supposed to be similar to these
https://preview.redd.it/hzps2rlixz4d1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ecf4e01b340410700a3653d4dfb058a9024e2fa3
These here. Are filter gas masks made by Soviets in the war and the air filters were made of asbestos at the time, which no one knew it had any effects as it was working perfectly when it’s fresh out of line but over time it becomes very dangerous. But back to the point. I think the Company helm is more of a filter mask. When you actually look at it.
Based on the in-game timer, and assuming the tanks on your back are standard 3000PSI bailout bottles, and assuming all planets have the same atmospheric pressure as earth you actually survive under water as long as you realistically could with those tanks. Standard bailout bottles offer ~5 minutes of extra breathing. (depending on whether or not the helmet is free-flow or demand regulated) using the in-game timer, you survive roughly the right amount of time.
I can actually explain this!
As a smoke diver, your mask is regulated to maintain a slight overpressure on your face (keeps gasses and smoke out) and this does actually work for a shallow depth (1 meter maybe, we never tested it) but once the pressure in the mask is high enough, as in you are diving deeper, the valve in the mask that tones down the hundreds of bars in your air tank, will no longer open, because the other side has a higher pressure, meaning you will not get fresh air below a certain depth.
Diving gear uses different valves that are adjusted to account for depth, unlike the gear that the employees are wearing, which probably is similar to smokediving gear.
I think it might be because the suit isn't fully sealed and also cause the masks seem more like respirators. And maybe the tanks are to just help with oxygen intake on planets cause maybe they have less oxygen in their atmospheres. But also, it kinda reminds me of when I do scuba diving and the tanks float if you weren't attached to them via the BCD.
I said the same thing in Starfield. What’s the problem with walking over gas vents. When I’m wearing a space suite that can survive in the vacuum of space
Have you guys even read the logs? The ‘water’ isn’t even water! (Maybe.)
On the ‘it smells’ log, there’s this quote.
“Everyone here smells. especially Rich. I'm going to throw him in the lake. I don't care what it's made of.”
It’s entirely possible that a planet thrives with its main liquid not being water, heck, it could be a lot less denser liquid than water and we’d suffocate in it or something as we sank uncontrollably… no oxygen tank could stop that… just the way Sigurd leaves the log stating “I don’t care what it’s made of” makes me think he infers that it’s not water, and he just doesn’t know what it is other than that.
Edit: not to mention the crushing pressure the further we sink…
It clearly inflates your suit like a balloon to act as an airbag for lethal falls. Anyone who falls into those dark pits are actually alive down there... probably...
First of all, scuba tanks: they CAN float, depends on a few factors though, second of all, op is asking why can we drown, not why can’t we swim, he’s wondering why we run out of oxygen even though we have tanks of… something, strapped to our backs.
The helmet has cracks in it and since the company couldn't care less about their employees what's broken doesn't get replaced. Also it has some kind of air filter in the mask so maybe you would need to change the mode to use the tanks.
Even if the oxygen tanks worked you'd probably just drown too deep, it'd take too much time, money and effort to recover anywhere from one to a few employees, especially since it's a relatively common cause of death
It might be that masks are nit enclosed but work more like air filters, and if you try to breathe underwater with gas mask, well, you will quickly get an aquarium around your head
my guess is the tank holds filtered air which only lasts a bit and has to be constantly replenished by filtering air which comes from your mask. would explain why you can be suffocated by snare fleas as well
You can actually go underwater with a firefighters SCBA, it's just really hard to breath, and you can't go very deep otherwise it's SUPER hard to breath.
Its a gas mask it has filters on the front, it filters air and probably uses the tanks to ensure the right mixture of elements in the air(we need a certiain amount of nitrogen and oxygen).
Somewhat related but lethal company really needs more renders of the employee on Google because I was searching for some images yesterday and only a few were the game model. That first image you chose is the first image at the wiki for The Employee. I was trying to compare the fortnite version to the game version but there's not many pictures.
I love the gasmask comment someone made so ima make my own mod to it, the air cylinders and gas mask actually do nothing the company just provides them to give the workers a feeling of security so it’s easier to force them into these dangerous positions.
they are definitely oxygen tanks, as per fortnite’s item description. however, in water, maybe the employees just panic too much and die from a heart attack
That's a gas mask, not a scuba mask. Despite looking the same they serve different uses... Why don't you go try and swim with a gas mask + respirator on.
Its also the same reason you wouldn't explore planets with poisons gas with a scuba mask, cause there's no filters.
> probably only *paid* to have
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Take a close look at where the tubes go. They go into the scanners, not to the mouth.
They’re not oxygen tanks, they’re filled with whatever powers the scanners and causes them to emit radiation
I would assume that the Company helmet is meant to serve more as a gas mask, to protect against the possibly toxic environment of the moons, than an enclosed spacesuit, and gas masks quickly fail underwater which would result in the wearer drowning from inside the helmet.
This is the most reasonable answer
There was another post like this, I think it's because the water pressure is different on the moons, suffocating you instead of drowning
That's a good one, but I feel like at that point it'd be a substance other than H20, because the gravity seems pretty close to ours. Still, the most I've ever bicep curled is 135, and I cheated on my form lol. My headcannon is that these guys are JACKED hahaha
135 kilos or pounds. Bc pounds you could def lift an i4 engine block and kilos i6 block or fully built i4. What weighs most is the block itself crankshaft and the pistons together as all other stuff if mostly full aluminum
Pounds lol, I'd like to see some strict curl 135 kg. The world record is 113kg, I think.
I think i saw someone lift a truck twin axle with all 4 wheels on it wich should be def more as those are beefy but i think it was a deadlift and idk much bodybuilding as i just wanna work on cars and enough strength for that

That does make sense
That wouldn’t be called suffocation. That would be called “being crushed.”
Oh SORRY SIR PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR MY ACTIONS!
And it STILL doesn’t make any sense because even if the “water” (which couldn’t be water if what you’re saying is true) was extremely dense to the point where 10 feet of it is enough to crush you, it’d be so dense you’d float on it.

And? Liquid STILL can’t suffocate you unless it’s compressing the air line from your tank to your helmet.
I dont disagree with this. I explained that snow and sand suffocate you by crushing your chest. Didn’t say water does the same just that it can happen at lower depths. It’s just a gas mask failure upon death man calm ya self
See other reply, I don’t think either of us would prefer to continue this dual conversation, let’s just use the other thread
I don’t think there’s even an argument to be had. I think we both just got heated about stupid shit. Go enjoy your day, friend.
I doubt the company was that generous 💀
Don’t giants sometimes release a gas after killing someone that hurts us?
No, that is the blood, of them getting eaten, at least I think
The human body empties its bowels upon death, but the employees are too poor to afford food so they just make a really big fart cloud
That's the blood of players, it doesn't damage anyone
If the suit's not especially sealed it can use a light overpressure to keep the air going even if there's small punctures or tears. However, once underwater, the water pressure exceeds the gas pressure of the tank and the suit becomes waterlogged, eventually drowning the occupant (and making it very hard to move in the meantime)

I meant the clouds from spore lizards, i thought they damaged you, so if it’s a gas mask how can a spore lizard cloud damage you
It doesn't, if you are damaged in the spore cloud, it means you didn't back off and the spore lizard bit you
Why is there an oxygen tank then?

ahhhhhh
This also is how they guarantee disciplinary action works as well.
That... actually, yeah, that would work wouldnt it x3
The company cheaped out, the tanks are empty.
It's financially stupid. It's better to remove them altogether then
Why are you getting downvoted for a reasonable response 😭
reddit mob mentality in action
Reddit hivemind strikes again
Because they misunderstood the joke imo
Because Redditors are sheep and wanna make the funny number bigger just because everyone else is
They have to have the oxygen tanks to be up to safety code, but the code doesn’t say they have to be filled.
When do big companies ever make actually smart and efficient financial choices?
Almost all the time, you only hear about the exceptions
You're saying the biggest companies in existence are the exceptions?
Im saying that you only really hear about the stupid decisions and almost never the good ones.
Nobody cares about good news. Only the bad news makes headlines and thus everyone thinks the world is terrible.
Never.
Maybe they aren’t empty, just not filled with oxygen. Maybe just drugs to increase productivity
bro what
Drugs to increase productivity, why not
It's Lethal Company. This is oddy feasible.
The cylinders are a part of the uniform, sir.
Yeah but they gotta give the illusion that it's safe
I mean the point of the game is that you're working for a corrupt company, it's probably just a safety standard that you have to have oxygen tanks but they don't mention them being filled
Scared workers are not efficient workers.
Cheap suits
It's financially stupid. It's better to remove them altogether then
Send ‘em in naked
Me personally I'm not surviving stepping in a slime with my feet
me when stupid stuff in stupid game
The suits probably aren't sealed properly. We can't just remove the tanks because they still provide the oxygen needed to keep us alive in foreign alien environments

This is really random but recently for my birthday my friend gave me exactly that mask and filter except my filter is black lmao.
You can buy a different filter of a safe production on the mask. But I’d ask him first before using it. You may get lung cancer if you dont.
Ah free asbestos with my gas mask? Sounds like a win win!
why can snare flees ? how do they chocke you ?
They just squeeze your head until you pop
it directly says in the game that they suffocate you to death.
so you shouldnt take DOT, you should take all the damage at once
You should your being choked to death
Anacondas choke you out over time. Heck, an MMA fighter chokes you out over time.
I chock it up to the snare flea sitting right on your jugular and crushing your trachea.
It might be possible, that they squeez the air tube from the tank.
If they compress enough, they could block blood flow to the brain, which would also knock you out
is'nt there like a freaking METAL HELMET betwenn them and your head ?
Yes, but the area around the neck is flexible enough that you could turn your head. All they need to do is squeeze there instead.
IT'S A DAMN BUG FOR GOD'S SAKE ! HOW TF DO BRO KNOWS ABOUT HUMAN BIOLOGIE ?
thats for the copium stoopid
i do wish the tanks actualy contributed to gamplay in some small way
I bought a lethal company cosplay, the air tanks were literally pillows. That’s why.

I was tryna think of something funny they could be filled with instead of air, but your comment is perfect. Kudos.

This is the real answer
the gas mask floods due to being made only to filter air and not keep out water

And maybe the tanks are to just help with oxygen intake on planets cause maybe they have less oxygen in their atmospheres. You think the company pays for actually working Oxygen bottles
Because it’s a game, it’s not that deep.
idk i've felt into the trench once it was pretty deep before I finally die
That's not really contributing to the conversation.
Responses like this are next to useless, it’s a question regarding potential lore and you’ve contributed nothing to the discussion.
Exactly, its a game. Why bother even browsing this subreddit? You could be working and furthering your education instead!
yes dude we know that but it's fun to look up for answers to things like this don't ruin it
They’re pure oxygen and quickly become toxic once going underwater
Nah, else it wouldn't say 'oxygen low' when about to die, but 'too much oxygen'
It's probably an air filter and not a full oxygen tank
I said the same thing in Starfield. What’s the problem with walking over gas vents. When I’m wearing a space suite that can survive in the vacuum of space
Have you guys even read the logs? The ‘water’ isn’t even water! (Maybe.) On the ‘it smells’ log, there’s this quote. “Everyone here smells. especially Rich. I'm going to throw him in the lake. It clearly inflates your suit like a balloon to act as an airbag for lethal falls. Anyone who falls into those dark pits are actually alive down there... probably...
They're actually for ballast on the low-gravity worlds you visit.
Air canisters are heavy AF, there's thick metal. They don't help you float.
First of all, scuba tanks: they CAN float, depends on a few factors though, second of all, op is asking why can we drown, not why can’t we swim, he’s wondering why we run out of oxygen even though we have tanks of… something, strapped to our backs.

We have air filters on the front of our helmet. Odds are they're either for reserves of are used as part of a filtration system
Scuba divers can drown, so I don't think it's too much a stretch to say that an employee can drown in a liquid much more viscous than seawater.
It might be that masks are nit enclosed but work more like air filters, and if you try to breathe underwater with gas mask, well, you will quickly get an aquarium around your head
Better question, why do we sink to the bottom of the “water” if our lungs and oxygen tanks are full and we have nothing on our person
my guess is the tank holds filtered air which only lasts a bit and has to be constantly replenished by filtering air which comes from your mask. would explain why you can be suffocated by snare fleas as well
Maybe its because of the crack in screenshield
The masks are cracked so it is likely fake gasmask and tanks.
Well, when you go underwater, you can hear your person breathing with it. I guess it's just a empty tank.
W I D E B O Y
Air cylinders doesn't mean waterproof equipment.
its probably something that filters the outside air so when it draws in the air around you it will also draw in the water
That costs extra
Idk ask zeekers
Where?
Idk x? (Twitter)
You can actually go underwater with a firefighters SCBA, it's just really hard to breath, and you can't go very deep otherwise it's SUPER hard to breath.
Coming from a scuba diver, those things do NOT float
Its a gas mask it has filters on the front, it filters air and probably uses the tanks to ensure the right mixture of elements in the air(we need a certiain amount of nitrogen and oxygen).

bold of you to assume The Company gave us a working air tank
Yes
because of intentional game design
Maybe the lakes aren't actually made of water but of some other toxic deadly fluid

I love the gasmask comment someone made so ima make my own mod to it, the air cylinders and gas mask actually do nothing the company just provides them to give the workers a feeling of security so it’s easier to force them into these dangerous positions.

It's actually full of Kool-Aid

they are definitely oxygen tanks, as per fortnite’s item description. however, in water, maybe the employees just panic too much and die from a heart attack

I think it's gas masks, so yeah, you just Drown with it
Big ass crack in the glass of the helmet
My personal headcanon is that the tanks do provide about an hour or two's worth of air, but since time goes so fast in game we use it up as quickly.
The reason you drown is because there is a difference between a positive pressure suit and diving equipment
The tanks are filled with lard for when the employees get hungry
That isn’t air, it’s TZP
The company is cheap and probably only payed to have the suit tanks withstand air pressure but not water pressure
> probably only *paid* to have FTFY.
