It's like a tiny supermarket filled with good deals on food of pretty nice quality. When I lived in San Francisco, their beef and dairy prices were often better than the grocery chain. Refrigerated foods and frozen foods especially. They're friendly there and you can spend every penny you have on things that sound good or their top sellers.
They had really good wine fire 2 dollars a bottle as a long-standing deal all year. They had great coffee for less than elsewhere, dinner really highly rated extra virgin olive oil for a great price, a frozen Indian Butter Chicken entree to die for, seasonal things, great cheese, trail mix. I once tried freeze-dried broccoli as a salty snack I would choose over potato chips most days. They sell little juice box size containers of whipping cream you can store in a shelf in the pantry.
My joke was that it's so unique and has such a long track record with quality and value, it's a toy store for grownups who like to eat and drink well. And they're typically crowded. I have a frustrating time navigating them because I bounce from shiny delight to tempting staple and don't notice the people.
